"In Praise Of Plodders" by Warren Wiersbe (one of my favorite authors) is a great read for the pastor or anyone involved in some kind of Christian ministry inside or outside the church. Around 145 pages, the book is a short and quick read and covers many great points, including:

1. Our first responsibility is to serve and please the Lord no matter what other people say or do.

2. The minister must not let the busyness of life interfere with his relationship with Jesus Christ.

3. Pastors need to be good listeners.

4. Suggestions for how the minister can avoid burnout.

5. The importance of having a sense of humor.

6. Hidden enemies of good preachers/preaching.

7. Sometimes a pastor needs to take a personal inventory of how he spends his time.

8. Preaching needs to be full of spiritual power from God instead of being manufactured in our flesh.

9. Things that if not dealt with, will result in frustration for the pastor.

10. The importance of relaxation in the minister's life (yes, work hard, but have enough time for fun and relaxation!).

The book is a quick and very insightful read. While written over 30 years ago, the book is as relevant today. Great read, easy to understand, full of excellent practical and spiritual insights, and will definitely be read again. Highly recommended.

I was given a review copy by Kregel in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
