When a local Maui resort is attacked, it’s all hands on deck to try and find the culprit. Which means Charlie is on the case, but so is Jake. And the last time they worked the same case was choppier than the north shore waves during a storm surge.
But Charlie’s got more to worry about than just solving this case. For one thing, why has her mom been acting strangely? And have the Ham brothers in Seattle gotten the message to leave her alone?
Charlie could really use another drink, but she’s going to have to keep a clear head if she’s going to get to the bottom of this case. The killer thinks they’ve gotten away with it, and the closer Charlie gets to uncovering the truth, the more danger she’s in. Can she bring the killer to justice before they make sure it’s last call for Charlie?
Loved this installment in the series! Charlie is not only back with her fabulous posse Rosie and Dot, but they temporarily have two other out of town investigators team up with them to help solve the bombing of a high end restaurant on the island, and those ladies are a hoot as well. I greatly enjoy all the other relationships in this series too - Charlie’s crazy mom, her best friend Zoe, and of course Jake. I also love the zingers Charlie continually hits Jake’s partner Liam with, I find myself laughing out loud anytime they interact. The island itself is a strong character in the series and I love the various mysteries Charlie gets involved with and seeing her investigative skills continue to evolve. Just a fun, witty cozy mystery series and one I greatly look forward to reading. 5 stars.
This one threw me for a loop! I didn’t figure this one out until the end! Charlie is up to catching bad guys and building that relationship with Jake! I may have actually cried while reading this one. Charlie is so witty and fun. We meet some new friend possibly in this book and left me with my jaw on the floor. Off to read the next book!
This book was a cross over with her Poppy Perkins series. I li be both Charlotte and Poppy so it was so great to seem them meet and work together to solve the mystery.
Jasmine Webb's Charlie Gibson books started off fine. A good beginning talent. Book 7 nosedived into too much really crass s&m stuff. If we're supposed to like Charlie, and believe that her unfiltered mother is for real, then Charlie can't be quite so disgusting. This book ( 8) was more on target with Charlie's personality except the author just HAD to go into "conservative white male bad- bad ass sisterhood of tough bitchy women-good" disappointing and formulaic. All that's missing in the formula is the trans or gay character and his husband. Honestly, this author would be much better if she stuck to her storyline and made her characters (good and bad) more 3D, ans skipped the PC crap.
Charlie has had a run of success, and people now know they can depend on her to get to the bottom of whatever the problem is. She now meets up with with three other women just like her Dot, and Rosie. Look out bad guys. Even as a reader we've gotten comfortable with why Charlie is really in Hawaii, the Hamm Brothers chasing her. Jasmine sleekly brings our attention to the full after she leaves Jake and realizing she is in love with him, when they tasered her as she gets into Queenie, OOOPPPSS!!
I have throughly enjoyed reading all 8 books so far. They are so engaging and you feel like you really know the characters in the book. They have been fun to read with their funny moments throughout the stories. It was a special treat when I read that Ophelia, Poppy, and Taylor were in this book. I’d love to see read more of their stories as well. Not looking forward to finishing the series because then I won’t have anymore of Charlie’s adventures to read about. I really enjoy this authors books so far.
Mai Tai Massacre is Book 8 in the Charlotte Gibson series by Jasmine Webb.
There is an explosion at one of the resorts and Charlie is hired by the resort manager to find who was responsible. Her boyfriend Jake who is on the police force is also investigating and they are trying to work together without breaking up!
This is an action-packed story with no shortage of suspects. I really love Dot and Rosie, super sleuth sidekicks that help Charlie with the case.
This was an exciting story and a fantastic mystery.
Wow! Starting with book 7, there was some, but not much, injection of a woke check list, but with book 8 , item was full on woke. I was enjoying Ms. Webb's books until book 7. I almost didn't finished this book because of her injection of her woke beliefs. I would like to finish the series, but I don't think I can stomach another book. I wish she had kept her writing neutral.
This character is a perfect beach read investigator. Fun cast of surrounding characters, references to Maui, and a good mystery to solve makes this series fun and quick to read.
This series captured my interest from page 5. Not interested in jewelry stores. Robbery or not. These characters and the story lines are so intriguing. TY Genius Jeannie
ok ok this took me forever to finally finish but it was good. Didn’t love the mystery, which I think is why I kept stopping, but man do I love these characters. Will continue to slowly work through these.
The tone of this book feels heavier, as Charlie steps up to solve two more serious mysteries. Another well-written book and a high quality cozy mystery series!
I thought I was pretty good at guessing who dune it but I never saw this one. The author is so skilled at weaving a mystery story, I was completely taken by surprise.
Okay, I liked the women empowerment a lot! I didn't care for the politics......if I want politics, I'll watch the dreadful news, and not read a book. Otherwise, fun book!
Sometimes you've had a long, difficult week and you just need a book that will make you smile. Every single book in the Charlotte Gibson series does that for me, and this last one wasn't any different.
Charlie feels like your best friend, someone who you roll your eyes at for making bad decisions but is also self-aware enough to recognize them. The setting in Hawaii, as usual, makes you feel like you're on vacation but you're learning about the culture and vibe. The characters are rich and the new addition of Poppy was an added joy, especially playing off Dot and Rosie.
Each book is different in this series but hits the right note. I cannot wait for the next one to listen to after a long day at work to forget the worries and dive into a fun little mystery.
(E) I bought this for next to nothing because of all my digital credits at Amazon. I didn't love that Charlie met Ophelia and Poppy and immediately started a working relationship with them. Are they supposed to be the young version of Rosie and Dot? Does this series always use such salty language? That doesn't seem "cozy" to me.
