I have just started reading this book. It appears to have some valuable content on training adolescent dogs, but from the start, it was obvious that this was self-published with no editor! There is an abundance of errors which are distracting and affect the ability to convey the message. For example, the author refers to a “thinner nervous system” when discussing low tolerance to stress. At the end of a line in the book, “anyway” was hyphenated to “an-
way.” Instead of “they aren’t,” she writes, “they’ren’t.” Brain game 11 says you will need sticks for this exercise, but never says what you do with them. It goes on to say, “the dog is allowed to chase after the shredder.” I don’t know what a shredder is & this is the only place in this exercise where it is mentioned. Most of the games simply involve hiding treats in different ways, some of which involve chewing/destroying things; the book does not include a different variety of exercises. What if your dog isn’t food-driven?
It is tough to read this without getting out a red pen to make corrections!
I’m looking for ways to ensure my adolescent dog gets the naps he needs and how to set boundaries to prevent him from becoming spoiled.
“Surviving Your Dog’s Adolescence,” by Carol Lea Benjamin is an older book, but it is superbly written by a respected trainer and contains a lot of useful detailed information.

An endless number of workable tools and techniques

What struck me most about the book was how many workable techniques there are to manage any type of dog behaviour. If the first method doesn’t work there’s still plenty more techniques to try until you find something that does.

The other big plus is that you don’t need to be the dog whisperer to implement these. Most are very simple and something busy working dog mums and dads can easily integrate into their day.

I appreciate that this book caters to a wide range of dog no nos that may need correcting and an even wider list of techniques to fix them.

There were a lot of helpul training exercises in here. Some are not actually about the title concepts - there is house training and basic training too - but you'll find pleny to make use of. Plus, it's a good reminder of basics you may have forgotten to revisit. The exercises are all clearly written and easy to use the concepts. It is well laid out.

Helpful book

I found this book helpful. I have a dog that barks at everything and will work on some of the solutions listed in this book. Especially the one about tossing a food ball when doorbell rings. I was not aware that adult dogs need 16-20 hours of sleep.

Title was misleading, however there were some good exercises listed in the book. It really needed an editor though. Looks of grammatical errors.
