It was quite a quick read with an interesting Plotline, well characters with great personalities. The story was moving quite smoothly so there wasn't even a moment of boredom. Everything from world-building to the plot twist was on point. It was at that point that the plot grabbed me and didn't let go. What surprised me most was the twist I absolutely did not see coming.

I don’t like giving books low ratings, especially on books with few ratings on Goodreads or to indie/self-published authors—however, this book just wasn’t my cup of tea (2 stars = it was OK).
In this novel, a man named Lucius is transported into another timeline and learns that not only does he have powers, but that he is also integral to a war between good and evil. However, I didn’t connect with the characters or plot. Many elements of the story happen conveniently, minimal foreshadowing (e.g., Lucius being able to , and ). Lucius is in the dark about many details, but some of this could have been subtly woven into the story for readers to pick up on (even if Lucius doesn’t. I did appreciate the rich description of the journey into the mountains, which reminded me of my own travels climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in some ways.
This book isn’t staying on my shelf, but I hope someone else enjoys it, and wish the author best of luck in their writing journey.

Incredible Story!!
This story is filled with Amazement from start to end of first book. The characters are environment are brought to life in a brilliant image dancing in your mind as you read. The story lines captures you and pulls you in from the start , creating the bonds that tie you to each character. Their is a mysterious air of excitement ,apprehension, and wonder on every page. This story creates a whole new world of fantasy and fantasy beings that I have never read before, and am very grateful to have discovered this series.

The opening scene where Lucius wakes up in a body he can’t control is honestly wild. I felt his panic like it was happening to me. And when the alternate Lucius’s consciousness fades? Bruh… that moment hit hard. Jennifer Aitken really knows how to drop you into the chaos. The scenes where Lucius tests his abilities and slowly realizes why everyone thinks he’s dangerous were some of the best moments for me. The prophecy build-up was chef’s kiss.

Once I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down. You are immediately transported into the pages of this book through the authors detailed descriptions and captivating storyline. It’s a relaxing read, and yet the story itself is quite complex with surprises around every corner. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author!

The blend of danger, dark humor, and self-discovery made this book addictive. I loved the moments with Lucius and his unexpected ally, they brought some warmth to the chaos. The secret society felt menacing but believable, and the prophecy made the stakes feel massive. I laughed, gasped, and held my breath reading some of the chase sequences, it’s a rollercoaster.

Lucius’s struggle with being fused with his alternate self is fascinating. I really felt his frustration and fear, and the way he slowly gains control over his new abilities was satisfying to read. Some scenes were intense and had me turning pages fast, especially the parts where he has to outwit his captors. A strong YA fantasy with real emotional weight.

The worldbuilding is imaginative, the different dimensions, mystical powers, and hidden societies are layered well. I liked seeing Lucius slowly figure out who he is and how he fits into the prophecy. A few parts felt a little rushed, but the character development and action sequences more than made up for it. Definitely an engaging story.

The premise is unique and I appreciated the creativity. There were times I wished for more description in certain scenes, but overall, I felt connected to Lucius’s journey. The moments when he realizes his powers and the danger he’s in were really gripping. It’s a story that makes you think about identity and destiny.

Shadow Storm feels like it could be a blockbuster movie. The chases, the secret society, and Lucius’s slow mastery of his powers made every chapter exciting. He’s scared, confused, emotional, and still trying to be brave, it made him feel real. The way the secret society hunts him is intense but not overdone. I loved the small moments where he tries to figure out which thoughts belong to him and which belong to the other version of himself. The Atlantean lore was such a cool twist. I would absolutely read a sequel.

Some of the dark humor caught me off guard in the best way. Lucius cracking jokes while literally running for his life?? Iconic. The story takes itself seriously, but not to the point where it becomes heavy. The emotional scenes, especially when he confronts the idea of destiny, really landed for me. Strong 4.5, would recommend.

There were moments where I wished the pacing slowed down a tiny bit, especially when the lore around Atlantis was introduced. But the character growth? Fire. At the halfway point, when Lucius finally taps into his ability and understands why he matters, that chapter had me glued. I liked the ally character a lot too; their dynamic carried the story for me.
