A WONDERFUL AND ESSENTIAL RESOURCE. Wow. I seriously wish I'd had a book like that when I was in my teens. Pre-teens, even. It covers all the essentials - from the neurochemical changes teen girls go through, to relationships, body image and figuring out how to exist in the world. The information is all grounded in real science (and the list of references in the back of the book provide extra reading) and the advice provided is also sound. From journal writing, to daily affirmations, to reframing the tough experiences in life, it's all there. I truly respect the work this author has done to pull together such a sensible and inspirational guide for girls. Most of all, I respect the fact that she has not glossed over some of the harsher realities about life - simply put, some kids grow up in very tough environments and experience truly awful stuff. For those, this book provides some excellent advice on taking control of their own thoughts, feelings and actions. For parents of teen girls, this book is a MUST as well, just in case they've forgotten how tough that phase of life can be. I'd also love to think that schools might embrace this book, too, not just for the teachers' benefit but for the notion that girls (and maybe boys?) could benefit from reading this book, following by class discussion with their teachers. I could not recommend this book more. It's a must!
This is such a comprehensive guide for young teenage girls, it makes me less worried about the future of our teens. I loved the way the author shared relatable content for the age group, and the range of topics covered is complete. I particularly liked the section on social media-it will leave any teenage girl empowered and in control. Highly recommend.
Wow I wish I had this resource growing up, but so grateful it exists for our teen and tween girls! I’ve worked in education for over a decade and am a licensed school counselor and really appreciate the author sharing researched based best practices, in addition to stories girls will be able to connect with.
This book was positive. I enjoyed reading it. I am not a teen but wanted to read it before giving it to a teen. I really liked the random quotes and example stories. I also really liked the reflection prompts. They were actually thought provoking for me.
This is such a great book for teenage girls. I really love the wide range of topics that she covers. All of the topics are very relevant for the times we live in.
