Dyana gave up her freedom to save her family from destitution. After years of abuse she’s struggling to stay strong but is quickly coming to a breaking point.
When she is chosen by an orc war commander during the Receiving she must face the monster and hope to survive the encounter.
This is a dark 10k word short story monster romance with elements that may be triggering to some readers including indentured sex work with non-consensual acts against the female main character, off-page family death, and talk of war and the lives lost due to it.
First and foremost, I'm a lover of all things romance, especially if there's a monster sprinkled in there somewhere 😉
I write steamy (and sometimes quirky) bite sized insta-love tales of monsters and magical creatures that are on a journey to find their one true match.
I work full time and am also a wife and mom - always outnumbered by two boys!
Dyana gave up freedom for her family. Years of abuse and being tossed around she is forced to become a receiver. A orc war commander, Harug visits the establishment she’s enslaved to…..
Definitely check TW. I really enjoyed this story and the authors writing style. While it was technically a slow burn, being only 49ish pages makes it. It feel as such a thing.
I look forward to more from this author in the future!
So much violence against women in this book... and SO MUCH gratuitous violence against the heroine. I'm not sure I like heroes EVER when they pay to sleep with someone... and I'm sure he means to "rescue" her... but there's a whole crappy world in this book I am not here for.
An emotional rollercoaster that I wouldn’t have expected from such a short - but excellent - story! I definitely rank Harug among the top “book boyfriends” and even higher just in the monster romance genre. 8/10.
I love the writing style in this short story. This was my first monster romance, and I have to say, I think it was a great place to start. Within 42 pages, we were given a full backstory on the FMC and the characters were very clearly established. The ending was sweet and there was a nice balance from begining to end!
I was moved by the way the author wrote the story I love the way. The author was able to capture the servitude and the pain of imprisonment that the girl was under. It had such a visceral effect and I honestly thought it was really good writing so I like that I like the story short and sweet and it was good
✖️✖️✖️✖️✖️/5 Plot ⭐️✖️✖️✖️✖️/5 Characters ✖️✖️✖️✖️✖️/5 world
This was absolutely terrible. The sexual abuse and assault on the FMC was so prolonged and quite unnecessary. It was disgusting to read, mostly because it really added nothing to the plot we didn’t already figure. It was there for shock value only! -♾️/5 ⭐️ for that alone.
I get this was a very very…very short story, so I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece. But the above assault scene took up about 15% or more of the story that I honestly almost gave up at that point.
But being a masochist for finishing what I start, I trudged on. The romance was barely existent. The plot was quite bare. And the FMC wasn’t intriguing enough for me to care about her, despite her hardships and struggles.
Harug, (our orc) MMC was the only character with some personality. He is the only one I was interested in, and would have loved to have seen more development. But being as short as this was, obviously we would not get that.
The spice between FMC and MMC was decent enough. Maybe if this was a full fledged novel, and with more development and world building this could have been a decent book. But I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.
The Orc and the Reciever Fantasy Elliot Ason ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Although this book started off with the FMC, Dyana, in a horrible situation with an ever-growing debt, it actually turned out to be quite a sweet story of survival, freedom and the bond that was slowly built between Dyana and her rescuer, the Commander.
I liked the pacing, and the world building was ok. I wish there was even more world building, though, as it was obvious that there were many different types of magical and mythical creatures, but there wasn't much detail about them.
The dual POVs were nice, and I liked the characters. The Commander was surprisingly kind and caring, and the author did a good job of making that obvious in his POV.
I'm glad that Dyana finally got her happy ending. I felt like she definitely deserved it after everything she had been through
First- there are TW’s on this one so to be aware of that. The SA doesn’t drag on and on but still, should be noted.
Came back to write a review- I love little story morsels like this. They are like an extra big slice of birthday cake that you were hoping to get in the middle of the night when you raid your fridge for leftovers.
This isn’t Shakespeare and that’s totally fine by me. For what it is, it gives me such treats as: revenge, pining, slow burn (yes in a short story! It can be done!)
The beginning is rough on the fmc. But we know that her rescue is literally just around the corner, so unlike The Last Hour of Gann, it’s not 800 pages of torture.
Did I re-read the page when the antagonist gets his comeuppance? Yes.
I also loved that this was an older orc. But this wasn’t an *age gap* situation.
This is a novella about a human 'receiver' and a high-ranking alien Orc. Please read the trigger warnings (mentioned but not written about).
Receivers are basically women forced into prostitution and there to service aliens returning from battle.
Dyanna ended up in a life of forced service, her body no longer hers, and when they grew tired she was sold to an alien brothel. Harug is returning from battle and hates to see the receivers who are on display, but Dyanna catches his eye.
Considering the triggers contained in this book it was a really sweet story and packs quite a bit into so few pages. Dyanna is in survival mode, but Harug is so sweet.
This book is extremely short at around 37 pages. The first half of the book is the heroine recounting her traumatic past as a sex worker and being raped by the brothel's sadistic elf (her family had debts and she was trying to save them from debtor's prison).
The orc hero sees her and wants to help her. He takes her away to his house where she starts fixing everything up and helping with cleaning. Eventually she makes a move on him.
I liked both characters but the book was so short you didn't really get much time with them actually together.
An attempt was made at worldbuilding. It failed miserably. It's so focused on stablishing how badly h's life has gone that little else is said. I don't even know if the king is human or Orc, though it's kinda implied at different times he's both, or maybe they were talking about different kings, but that's not especified. I don't even know where h used to live before her life went to shit. The romance is barely there, as is the erotic aspect of this, unless we're supposed to get off of how badly h is abused.
Well we all know by now that I freaking love Elliot asons books. She writes short and steamy reads. I'm never disappointed in her books at all. She jam packs her books with so much. Her story's take us on an steamy adventure. I'm here for it all.
This one was such an rollercoaster, it's got emotional bits init for our fmc.
It's fast paced, emotional, spicy, sweet, and so much more. I couldn't put it down. I loved the characters, storyline and plot. Dyanna goes through so much it breaks my heart. But her big giant orc comes to save her. Will she get her happy ending with the giant orc?
A short freebie. After I was done I realized why it didn't seem "right" to me. I try to avoid romances written by men. If you can even call this a romance, which is stretching the definition. What romance there is in the final couple of pages. But back to my sexist comment. Most romance written by men that I have read are very harsh against women and not romantic at all. This one is like that. I suggest you avoid it if you are looking for romance. This is not it.
Listen, I’m in my monster smüt era and I’m NOT ashamed. (I am). Anyways this is a 3.5 for me. This was just a fairly good, short read (37 pages). Didn’t have the usual fun vibes that I enjoy in a non-human romance, but there’s only so much you can do in so many pages I suppose. This was good and I’ll be checking out more from this author, but this was also pretty heavy - could have been a little longer maybe to enjoy the cuteness of this couple? Whatever. This is monster p*rn.
Quick read. Dark themes, so please check triggers. Couple only 'come together' at the very end, and if you are expecting an indepth romance, you are in the wrong place. It wasn't bad, it wasn't fantastic, but it did fill an hour or two when I couldn't decide what I wanted to read. I'd give it a high 2 or low 3. I will probably try other books by this author as it wasn't badly written it just lacked a bit of depth or more smut.
Having never read a book featuring an Orc, I didn't know what to expect here, but this short story was a delight. Dyana has had a bad couple of years and the Orc Commander won't stand for it. Their romance takes time to develop as Dyana heals from her physical and emotional wounds. When they do come together it's steamy and sweet. Who knew I'd be rooting for an Orc/Human duo?
This was a short hot read. It starts out a little rough. Just mean there are some triggers. Dyna is owned by a succubus named Celeste. When the orcs come to the grandhall for relaxation. The commander spots Dyna. He wants to spend time with her. This is her first time entertaining the guest. There is something special about this particular Orc.
4.5/5 This was a really cute he falls first book. The commander comes through for the receiving and is completely captured by Dayna. She expects him to be like all of the others… but he’s not. The author does a great job of giving us a complete story with all the necessary background and some spice in under 50 pages. All thoughts and opinions are my own💜💜
Our heroine, Dyana, is a human woman sold into indentured slavery as a ‘Receiver”, and the Hero is an Orc Commander with a kind heart.
This was a sweet tale of a romantic connection found amongst even the least ideal of circumstances. I really enjoyed this short story, and I also liked the author’s writing style.
There is a lot packed into this short story. The author does a great job connecting us immediately to the FMC and MMC. The beginning is brutal, but makes the end that much sweeter.
This does have some dark themes so check the TW. The mmc is so freaking sweet, I love him. He gives 0 f’d apart from making sure the fmc is safe and taken care of. Love love him
While the beginning of this story is quite dark, you definitely feel vengeance and the happiness that she deserves. I absolutely absolutely loved the Commander and loved the life that they got.
5 stars means I would gladly read this again and again
Quick fast read, but OMG is this Orc drool worthy. Love the protectiveness of him and how he stands up for Dyana. Won't tell anything else that may give it away but love love love this story.
You got more pages from the bad guy abus1ng the female main character than then main characters getting together get at the end. Wanted to like this the premise is good but the pay off isn’t enough to make up for the middle.
This is probably one of the most cute and wholesome books I've read by Elliot!!!! The hero and his new lady! I love the story and the insta connection Harug feels towards Dayana!
Favorite Quote: She smiles while our hands are touching, my heart skips a beat, two beats.
This is a really short story. I am delighted to say it was very entertaining. I would like to know more about the characters. So dear author, write more, please. Good read!
Check the trigger warnings, its pretty dark at first. A human woman is rescued from abusive sex work by an orc commander passing through. She recovers in his home and they fall in love. He's a total gentleman and I adore him. This is a good novella!
