“I lived for six years thinking you were dead… the next time your heart stops beating, mine will too.”

Damon

The very first case I was ever assigned after the Academy ended in three deaths. The memory serves as a constant reminder of my biggest failure. What haunts me even more is how it was covered up, leaving justice unserved.

After six years of mourning what could have been, her face crossed my desk.

I barely have time to process the fact that she’s alive. All I can think about is my need to warn her of the impending trouble.

Amelia

I don’t remember anything from before the day I died. All I know is I have no one left. With no family or friends, I was the perfect choice for the Agency’s Fallen Angel Project, a Top-Secret CIA operation illegally operating in the country.

I’ve been invisible for the last six years, living with the other Seattle Fallen Angels at our high-security compound, doing anything the Agency asks of us. That is until a stranger shows up and turns my world upside down.

When a hit is put out on me, we must travel across the country to take out the threat. But in doing so, I find out more than I can bear as memories come rushing back.

Damon is a symbol of the demons from the past, but he may be the key to my reprisal.

“You should have let the dead stay dead.”

This is the first book in the Fallen Angels Series of interconnected stand-alones, and is an action romance filled with steam, heartbreak, and yearning. Each book contains a different couple from a different Fallen Angels compound around the country. No cheating, no cliffhangers. HEA

Anna Noel is a firm believer in writing what you’re passionate about, and two things she’s loved her entire life are sports and spies.

Growing up a huge fan of Baltimore Sports, Spy movies, and Fast and Furious, Anna got her start writing early, graduating from writing small picture books about her childhood Dalmatian to books about street racing, crime, and spies.

Her favorite authors growing up were Dan Brown, Iain Reid, and Kazuo Ishiguro. Although she writes in a completely different genre, she finds inspiration in their creativity and genius.

Anna’s life goal has been to help authors and become one herself. With entrepreneurship running in her family, she knew that she would do it eventually. As time went on, in 2015 Anna started selling plot lines to authors who needed a little help, and years later would expand her services to authors, eventually going full-time with it in 2020.

Anna specializes in slow burn romances, and is excited to continue both her Project Fallen Angel series and the Baltimore Cobras.

"We shouldn't be here. But we are. Because we were given a second chance at life. We're ghosts. Fallen Angels."

The entire idea behind this plot is so new and refreshing....for me anyway. When Anna Noel first mentioned what her debut book (and series) were going to be about I couldn't wait for it's release. As soon as I got my hands on this book I was addicted. All of her promos have eluded to the fact that Damon comes face to face with a woman he thought has been deceased these last six years. The story that follows was freaking amazing.

Damon was an up and coming FBI agent when he got put on his first case....befriend Ellie Huxley, the daughter of a dirty senator. Befriend her he did and then along the way he fell in love with her and wasn't able to protect her when she needed it most. She was taken from him, or so he thought. Now six years later he has left the FBI and is a detective who just saw a wanted poster come across his desk with Ellie's face on it. Determined to find her he sets out across the country to Seattle.

Amelia has no memory of her life prior to six years ago and she is perfectly fine with that. She does what is asked of her and just tries to live her life. She is shocked when a man shows up calling her Ellie. She feels a recognition of him but cannot place it. She needs answers and goes about getting them the only way she knows how.

These two together are a tension filled, slow burn book lovers dream. Enemies to lovers with a sprinkling of second chance at a certain point in the story. Amelia is the hardened one. Damon is this tattooed man that will have the softest side for Amelia around others but as soon as it is just them....the dominant side of him comes out. He has endured just as much pain if not more than Amelia because he remembers everything and she does not. Little by little this man shows her what she meant to him then and still means to him now. So many times I wanted to yell at Amelia to get it together where Damon was concerned but then of course that tension would have been lost and I honestly feel it is a very important part of these two.

As mentioned before, this is a different spin in the romance world for me. I am very much looking forward to the next books in this series.

I love a good romantic thriller and this book hits all the marks! Romance, found family, secret organization, Cooper are just the tip of the iceberg. I really like the suspense and how the plot unfolded!

Amelia! This sweet child has been through so much and my heart goes out to her and her journey. I really did like her character and her strength before and after that she found out and just her in general. She deserves the world and I’m happy that she did and more.

DAMON. THIS MAN. I loved his character and just his love for Amelia before and after and just how much he does for her before and after. He is just patient and finding Amelia again warms my heart.

With a good plotline and the amazing side characters this debut novel is not one to miss! I can’t wait for book number 2!

A huge thank you to @annanoel for an ARC Copy for review!

Catch this amazing book out tomorrow! This is one debut y’all do not want to miss.

Loved it

This was my first spy romance book and I have to say I'm hooked. This was like a really good spy movie but in book format. There was action, a mystery of sorts, suspense, romance and some spice. Can't wait to start book 2.

I read this in two sittings (it would have been one sitting but sleep) I found it impossible to put it down.

This is a quick read but man is it good, it’s just so interesting the whole storyline.

WE LOVE A MORALLY GREY FMC🫠

The pages in between each chapter which gives you meanings to some of the words used in the book is such a cool idea. Anna’s formatting is top tier!

I love Amelia and Damon, no matter how long has passed, they never forgot their feelings, Amelia may have thought she did, but deep down she knew she had always loved him.

Reprisal - Anna Noel

It is a normal human condition to question if there is life after death. If a loved one passes, the grief stays with you forever. But what if the person you loved, watched pass and buried was seen elsewhere in the country. Walking, laughing, living. What if they were in danger? What would you do?

This is what Damon had to face as a poster crossed his desk with an image of Ellie, the woman he buried 6 years ago. Little did he know what government project he was about to uncover.

Reprisal presents a unique reading experience unlike anything I have encountered before. Its pages are imbued with morally complex choices, intricate webs of conspiracy, governments tainted by corruption, suicide attempts, chilling acts of murder, covert operations shrouded in secrecy, the allure and consequences of wealth, and the transformative power of genuine love.

After Ellie is murdered she is brought back to life by a CIA program and she becomes a disposable ‘fixer’ and a member of a group they call the ‘Fallen Angels’. With no memory of their life before the procedure and the knowledge they can be killed by the Agency if they risk the program, Ellie, now known as Amelia, has decisions to make when an unknown man warns her that her life is in danger.

I was enthralled by the fast-paced and action-packed narrative, which prompted deep moral contemplation regarding the government's decisions and the field of science as a whole. Throughout the story, I was constantly filled with anticipation, wondering how the characters would navigate their perilous situations and if they could ultimately achieve a satisfying resolution.

While the ending was entertaining and idealistic, I couldn't help but question its outcome. However, Anna has created a world that brings forth the questions for humanity but ultimately the importance and strength of love.

Found Family ∘ Enemies to Lovers ∘ Slow Burn ∘ Forced Proximity ∘ Espionage

Happy Reading,

Alie

Whoa whoa whoa, everyone hold on! What on earth did I just read!? I. AM. OBSESSED. “Reprisal” by Anna Noel left my jaw hanging, wanting more and more! This romance is unlike anything I have ever read before. The FMC died tragically only to be brought back to life to… well that’s all i’ll tell you about her — don’t want to give too much away! The MMC, what I think, is her knight in shining armor. Noel just drop kicks us into this intense story of these characters trying to figure out what is going on and reintroducing themselves to each other. Noel says right up front that yes, this a romance but it’s a slooooooow burn and that’s no lie. There is a ton of angst, denial of feelings, but you know, you KNOW the FMC and MMC are a perfect match — it’s so obvious! The story takes place 6 years after a life changing event and Noel does a GREAT job of highlighting what happened in the past without detailing us readers. The character development is slow rolling at first but man, the FMC and MMC essentially grow together and that’s wonderful to read.

The entire time I was reading this book, my face looked like this: 🤯 There just isn’t any other emoji to represent my feelings! I love a book that keeps me guessing and Anna Noel, you kept me guessing the whole way through! I was also DYING for some steam because the FMC and MMC clearly are into each other and the angst kept building and building, and when we get to the steamy parts?! Hold on to your panties ladies, because it goes DOWN! And we would have gotten more but noooooooo the cliffhanger had to make an appearance and put me in a chokehold. I am looking forward to diving deeper and deeper into this series and it’s all because Noel really knows how to structure and write a story that keeps you so engrossed that when it ends you’re like “wait, what! it’s over?!”

Cheers to more! I can’t wait to dive into book 2!! Dark romance readers, this may not be level 5 🌶️ but the story will satisfy that darkness we all know and love!

Anna Noel’s Reprisal: Project Fallen Angel is an action-packed spy romance that follows the back-and-forth POV of Damon and Amelia. Damon, a detective, finds Ellie Huxley’s photo on his desk which spurs him to track down a woman who was presumed dead six years prior in a triple homicide. Amelia, or “Ellie,” is a spy known as a “Fallen Angel” as she has no identity beyond her missions; given her lack of familial ties and recollection of her past, she is tasked by the CIA to handle top-secret, undercover missions. Damon finds himself thrown into the dangers of Amelia’s spy lifestyle, while Amelia slowly uncovers the truths of her past amidst enemies that want her dead.

Noel effectively covers topics such as mental health, while providing an interesting premise surrounding the concept of “Fallen Angels” (notably in the CIA’s reviving of individuals and memory wiping). The story is action-packed and thus easy to read and dive into. The chapters’ formatting is also fun, as each chapter starts with a gray page that includes a bullet-shot glass and buildings in the background. Nonetheless, the characters all fall into tropes and one-dimensionality; Amelia’s story is compelling, though it is mainly told rather than shown beyond her contradictory feelings towards and miscommunication with Damon. The characters’ stories and background often revolve around Amelia’s life, meaning they feel more like a narrative convenience rather than authentic individuals—even Damon (which inevitably makes the romance plotline fall short). Moreover, in one scene Amelia suddenly goes missing, which is told rather than shown, thus making for a jarring start to the end action sequence. The end twists are also rather confusing in terms of character motivation, to be vague (looking at you, Naomi). The story could benefit from more showing than telling, and an incorporation of characters whose lives are believable outside of the main character’s aims. Nonetheless, a quick and fun read!

I was kindly given the arc of this book to read before the realised date and WOW. This was so SO good!

This is the first book in the Project Fallen Angel series of interconnected stand-alone’s. They are action romance filled with steam and heartbreak 🫶🏻

I read this so quickly as I just couldn’t put it down, it’s so well written and i couldn’t get enough of it. the whole universe and story is something I haven’t seen before which I loved. the plot it truly genius and I loved every single character so much. it is split pov in 1st person which is my fave type of writing to read🤍

We follow the mmc Damon who had a case ending in 3 deaths, however after 6 years he realises that someone he had thought dead is i fact still alive and he makes it his mission to find her.

We also follow the fmc called Amelia who can’t remember anything about her past before she died. All she knows is that she is part of the agency’s Fallen Angel Project - a top secret illegal CIA operation.

Their romance has soooo much tension and I LOVED the enemies to lovers while it also being forced proximity 😩💗I could read about this universe forever it is seriously THAT GOOD.

Each book in this series will contain a new couple from a different Fallen Angels compound around the country. I can’t wait to meet every couple and read the whole series as they come out. Alsooo…. this cover is so stunning! I am so excited to see the full series in my shelf one day 🖤📚

Sooo let me start by saying I enjoyed this book.
I did. It was a fun twist on the normal cop / FBI trope.
The plot got a little confusing around 40% with some of the comments from surrounding characters about the mmc (his profession, attitude, and response to current events). I did have to go back a few times and highlight facts to make sure I was following correctly with the time line of events but It didn’t take away from the story.
I loved the fmcs bad@ss demeanor and the found family trope with her 2 closest friends (really want some more lu). Her confusion with her emotions was described well enough that I could understand her struggle with wanting to refrain from hearing what happen before her memories were taken.
That being said, the mmcs characteristics/ demeanor started off strong… but quickly changed. He almost portrayed a “damsel in distress” or “whiny”. It wasn’t unbearable, just put me off a little. With him being a former FBI agent and current detective, I expected a little bit of a “tougher” mmc. I did like how dedicated he want to staying with her and seeing this threw.
And I loved the addition of cooper. I think that was a good extra for this book. Especially him being a Dalmatian. ❤️
All in all, I did enjoyed the book. It was a good read.

I really enjoyed this book. I’ll definitely be continuing the series because I want to see where the overarching plot goes. For anyone who wants a true standalone, this book is not that. While the romance is all packed up between these two is all packed up in this book, there are a ton of unanswered questions at the end of this.
My only gripe about this book is that the romance either needed to start earlier in the book or the book needed to be longer to give us a more believable romance. While I believed in the romance, especially on Damon’s side, it was difficult to believe Amelia just did a whole 180 87% of the way through the book after being a bitch to Damon for most of it. I wanted to desperately like her more than I did because I loved the plot/the concept and I LOVED Damon. But she was really difficult to feel any kind of sympathy for when she refused to acknowledge WHY Damon came to find her. Telling him to “let the dead stay dead” was unnecessarily cruel and at that point I wanted Damon to back down but I knew that wasn’t going to happen.
But overall I found I enjoyed reading it, and I devoured it in one sitting which always has me ranking it higher. I couldn’t put it down.

What an epic read! The vibes between the characters gave me Castle and Beckett from the show Castle! The FMC Amelia was on the more serious side and it all stems from the past few years of her life (at least the past she can remember) and Damon the MMC is from her life before. Before she became what she is today.

I loved how all the details were laid out for us to discover and we got bits and pieces as the story went on until finally EVERYTHING was explained and what a shock it was!

This was such a unique read for me and I loved getting to dive into the spy world that the author has built for us.

There is some romance, just enough to make my romance loving heart happy and BOY when there is, Damon sure does lose that golden retriever vibe he’s got going and really shows how much of a dirty talker he is. 🔥

If you’re into spy and espionage type things, this is the story for you. PLUS there’s an adorable Dalmatian so how can you say no to that?

I highly recommend this book, it was such a great and thrilling read.

Here are a few of the tropes that may just interest you!

💥Secret Identities
💥Government secrets
💥Morally Gray FMC
💥Hero MMC
💥Secret Agent

From the moment I heard about this book, I was instantly drawn to it. The author has clearly worked throughly on this idea and has created a world that sucks you in completely.

The story follows Damon as he comes face to face with a woman he thought had been dead for the past six years, but she has no memory of her old life. Throughout the book, a lot of things are revealed, but the thing that had me the most were the characters. Amelia is this bad ass morally gray heroine. YES, you read that correctly. I feel like we don’t get this often and it’s so refreshing to have a female lead who is the hard ass. Damon is super sweet with the way he takes his time, honoring Amelia’s wishes of not reminding her who she was before. But he’s so protective of her and I LOVED that about him.

This story is full of suspense and romance and I guarantee you, you will not know what hit you in the end. Brace yourself for this suspenseful romance that dips into dark themes. Oh, and for the slow burn, too. That tension is just oh so delicious.

Such a wonderful debut from Anna Noel and I can’t wait for the next books in this series!

i thought this book was so good!! the concept and plot of it was so interesting and unique, it definitely had me hooked immediately.

i really liked amelia because she was a true badass. she was strong and she’d been through some really bad things, but she was still fighting for herself and for the people she loved. she went through a lot of difficult emotions and situations that she had to maneuver and i’m really glad that we get to read about her healing in a realistic way. it wasn’t like she just met a guy and she was all better, she still had to heal on her own.

damon was such a refreshing character. i honestly loved him. he was so funny but he also cared so deeply for amelia and her safety. he just wanted her to be okay.

i loved the dynamic between damon and amelia. there was so much tension but there was also so much love between the two of them.

overall, i really liked this book and i look forward to the next books in the series!

i definitely recommend reading it! i was pulled in immediately and i did not want to put it down. plus the tension and love story was just so good. go read it!!

Wow wow wow…

I feel like this has been a bit of a journey, a good one!
So many little (and some big) things I highlighted as I was reading that made me laugh or we're just things I wanted to come back to!

I can honestly say I haven't read anything quite like this concept, and quite frankly I love it!

Damon and Amelia bring a slow burn, enemies to lovers after he stumbles in to a world of espionage, an illegal operation. Amelia tries to resist the attraction when it’s something she can’t quite understand at the beginning and then not wanting to open up a weakness with emotions. Damon, well, the sweet golden retriever, that can take control in the bedroom, is actually looking for a second chance with the girl he loves but thought had died 6 years ago!

Appreciation post for Cooper!

Also shout out for Jerry, I have a very specific view of her in my mind and I love it and I love that we do actually get to know her a bit!

It's so well written! Plus, you meet a lot of people in the different Fallen Angel compounds and I'm excited to read more of their stories and just start on a never ending journey around and around the compounds… no pressure or anything Anna… just saying… there’s no ending for this series… right 👀

I found out about this book totally at random but the blurb got me curious so I couldn't wait to pick it up.

The story got me curious since the beginning and I really loved the characters. Amelia was such a bad ass and it was great to read about an independent heroine that didn't exactly need a guy to save her. And don't get me started on Damon. . . my boy was obsessed and SO freaking hot 🥵 These two were a crazy roller coaster and they were so perfect together.

So yeah, overall the story was good but I don't know. . . it had something missing. . . the premise were really interesting but the execution had a few problems that didn't make me enjoy this book as much as I was expecting.

Espionage. Forgotten Memories. Betrayal. Found Family.

I have been impatiently waiting for this book for so long and I am exceptionally thankful to be able to read this early. This review is 100% my own thoughts and opinions.

Let me start by saying that I absolutely loved this book!! The elements that intrigued me initially were that it was a story about a secret identity, espionage, and that the MMC falls first. The tension between the MMC and the FMC was so palpable and kept me hooked page after page. He knew about her past, but she didn't want him to tell her any part of it. I hate being able to guess the plotline or who the villains are, but I can honestly say that I was not expecting the twists and turns in Reprisal. The plot felt very refreshing and I can't get enough of Damon (MMC). The wait for the next books is going to be even harder to control.
Highly highly recommend! Excellent story for this debut author!!

——
let’s talk about one of my most anticipated reads of the year.

i knew from the moment i found out about noel‘s debut novel that it was going to be like nothing i’ve ever read and it did not disappoint!

Reprisal is book one of the project fallen angels series, and i am so in love with these characters and world. Set in Seattle, we follow Amelia (one of the most badass women i’ve gotten the chance to read), and Damon (a true cinnamon roll through and through) as he finds himself in the middle of some serious crossfire.
Amelia knows nothing about her past, her memory wiped by the CIA who she works for, but when Damon shows up all of that changes. after a hit is put out on Amelia, Damon seems to be the only one who can truly help. the tension between these two is unmatched, but it was honestly the growth they went through that i loved the most.
on top of everything, this book was full of action that had me completely enthralled. i had a hard time putting this book down because i just HAD to know what was going to happen next. and that plot twist????? i personally didn’t see that one coming.

want a morally grey fmc? what about strong found family? or even just something different from what’s on the romance market right now? when this comes out tomorrow (may 23rd), RUN to get your copy!!

huge thank you to Anna Noel for giving me an advanced readers copy to this amazing book. catch me (impatiently) waiting for more of this series & Noel’s work.

I have been waiting so long to hopefully get this ARC because all of the teasers sounded exactly like a movie I would love to watch. Action packed romance book is what I would call this book! Think of all your favorite crime/spy shows but then add in memory loss, romance, found family, and conspiracies! All of those things put together made a great book that was a fast paced read. I loved that the FMC was a little morally grey and the MMC was giving cinnamon roll vibes. Also loved how there was a highlight on how fallen angels are recruited I think that added depth to the story and all of the characters. The only thing I wished was that she got to have retribution directly against the man that wronged her. Overall a great read and I can’t wait for book two! #bookedwithholls

I found myself sucked into this world pretty fast due to the constant action and the way @authorannanoel wrote this book because it leaves the reader questioning many things about the world you were reading about and the world we live in today.

The characters are complex but interesting and super intelligent. There’s an intricate web of conspiracy, espionage, government secrets and the possibility of them all being corrupted. That connects to the current story of Ellie/Amelia figuring out who she really is, why someone is after her, and how to go forward with her life after everything she has learned. And will Damon have anything to do with that choice?

These characters all make morally complex choices that are tied to the covert operations they must complete, but even those are shrouded in secrecy and mystery. It begs the question, is the agency they’re working for really even trustworthy, if their own government is not?

Throughout the book I was in constant anticipation about how the characters would navigate their situation and if they could even find a resolution to it. And while it did tie up, I felt a little disappointed. Mostly because we had all these questions arise throughout the story, and while most were answered, I was also left feeling like it was a little anticlimactic. I personally wanted just a bit more of a drawn out ending, and maybe a tad bit more romance. However, the romance we got was enjoyable and worthwhile. And I was not disappointed in the ending itself.

Pick up if you like:

♟️Slow burn
♟️Forced proximity
♟️Espionage
♟️Government secrets
♟️Lots of action
♟️Complex characters
♟️Tension and spice

I have mixed feelings about this one..it’s an enemy to lovers, forced proximity, action packed darkish romance, I’ve never read a book like this before(FMC dies, but doesn’t really and becomes a secret agent)… it was a very slow burn but damn were the scenes spicy and full of praise then it finally happened!
I would have loved more smutty scenes personally- I think it got to like 60% before anything happens… and then the last 40% it felt like it was bang bang and it was over.
But Damon oooof he is mighty fine!

4⭐️

this book had such an interesting premise but horrible execution, not enough showing just telling 😭 I honestly wasn’t invested in the characters because they felt so flat, Amelia and Damon UGH I love them but I wish there was more tension between them, I mean it’s been 6 years since Damon saw her so like 👁️👁️

The entire book felt rushed, especially their relationship progress, it’s like one page Amelia is like no and then they’re together like 🤨 the plot also didn’t feel developed, it was a little messy

Not my favorite but still a decent read 🤷‍♀️

This was @mics_bookshelf pick for our #coastalbooktravel traveling book club and I loved it! Romantic suspense is a new sub-genre that I have recently found that I absolutely love. I love reading thrillers and romance and when you mix the two, it turns out to be perfection (in my opinion)! The suspense and mystery throughout the book kept me on the edge of my seat, but the tension and angst between Damon & Amelia had me kicking my feet. Damon is so freakin swoony and there were multiple times in the book that I would write “swooning” with a little heart next to a quote from Damon. There are some open door romance scenes in the book which I loved! A bonus feature is Amelia’s dog, Cooper 🥹 I love reading about a character’s connection with their fur baby. This book had me all in my feels and I love when a book can bring out all the emotions out of me. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Amazing!

I love romantic thrillers, so when I saw Reprisal and read the blurb I knew this was a book I needed to read. And I’m so glad I did! I was sucked into this book right away. Its thrilling, suspenseful, has great world building and I absolutely adored the characters. I’m so excited for more of this series!

When I started this book, I was well and truly captivated. It had everything you needed in a mystery book. Strong FMC and, in this case, a love sick MMC, secrets, lies, and of course a love story. It was kinda a slow burn, but I enhoyed the lead up and was excited when they came together. But Im not gonna lie. I felt like the ending was rushed. Like we save her, but then we skip to months later than years later. Dont get me wrong. I enjoyed this book, and I am happy I had the chance to experience it but not something I would read over and over again or have stuck in my head for days.

"Death is a fickle thing. It's beautiful and tragic, terrible and lonely. At one point in our lives, we probably wish for it."

Side-eyeing myself because I'm noticing a pattern with my morbid highlight choices.

Anywho, this banger was outside of my typical reading genre and I'm so glad I read this! The plot was easy to follow and each time I had to put the book down, I was left on the edge of my seat with a mini-cliffhanger. I can't pick a favorite character as they are all different, yet fun to read about. If I had to choose, I'd say Cooper but that's a given ;)

The epilogue was beautifully done, and I can't wait to follow the next story in the Fallen Angel series!!

Reprisal is an intense, romantic suspense/thriller!
You will not know what hit you at the end of this book.
I haven't read anything quite lite Reprisal!
Such a good book! I could not put it down.
