Rules Between Roommates

Rate this book
When Dani lands her dream job after university, she has no idea that the man she's just moved in with is also the hotshot lead designer at the company. Charming, humorous, and prone to one-night stands, Will makes one thing clear: he isn't interested in becoming her friend. And falling for each other? That's against the rules. But Dani is unlike any girl he’s ever met, and although she doesn’t know it, she may just be breaking every rule he’s set.

As their lives continue to entwine at work and home, they find themselves drawn to one another. Friendship is easy to admit, but what about falling in love?

C.L. Sharples is a British romance writer who studied English Literature and Creative Writing in north-west England – her favourite place. She loves to travel and finds inspiration in the people she’s met and connections she’s made. She believes love doesn’t happen at first sight. It happens slowly, like little jigsaw pieces falling into place, sometimes fitting, sometimes needing extra work. Like real life, her characters fight both for and against their desires, but ultimately, the payoff is always worth it. Her books are warm, sexy, with happily-ever-afters that are earned.

I found this book in the free kindle downloads section so I didn’t have the highest expectations but was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed this book! Felt like watching a romcom.
Very easy read and would definitely read again.

Their past trauma was sort of mentioned and then brushed over which at first I thought was strange but I actually came to appreciate it. You could see for yourself how it effected the characters without them bringing it up all the time or using it as an excuse for their actions.

It was OK. You needed a bit of suspension of disbelief for this - I found the scenario in which they meet and wind up living together to be a bit farfetched. For a book with a title and cover about rules there was not much emphasis on these rules throughout the book at all. (If you want a story where the roommate is regimented with his ridiculous house rules but slowly makes exception foe the FMC as he realises he loves her type story, this is not it. Honestly the rules were very typical normal rules for roommates/strangers to have? Other than the weird TV one...) I thought the banter was extremely forced and cringeworthy to read in places. And the passage of time was really weird, I honestly couldn't tell if it had been weeks or months that they had been living together. Most likely because nothing major or significant really happens in the story. Nick, douchebag that he is, only seems to be there in order to place doubt in the FMC's head at the end of the story which leads to a weird I'm-not-gonna-assume-so-I-just-won't-ask miscommunication trope.

Don't get me wrong, it was cute, it has a happy ever after, the eventual tension between the two was quite well written, it's an easy read so I ended up reading it in one sitting, and you do catch glimpses of both MCs' moments of vulnerability which helps them to understand each other more. I just couldn't look past all the above to give it any higher a rating. Sorry!

“I don’t know how you didn’t make your way to me sooner.” — Will

Enemies to lovers is the best romance trope ever.

This was a very simple romance story. There wasn’t much conflict between the characters and the buildup was done relatively well. The chemistry between Dani and Will was amazing. Their banters were well written.

However, I wish the story explored more about the characters’ personal struggles and backstory. The book focused a lot on the romantic relationship between Dani and Will, and a tiny bit of the career progression for Dani. While I loved reading about the characters falling for each other and how their relationship eventually affected their career, I felt that I couldn’t really relate to some of their actions because I didn’t know much about their backstory. For example, about Dani hating mushrooms. I felt like it was added into the story so that it can be used to make the rest of their colleagues suspect their relationship.

Nonetheless, I still enjoyed this book. Will was very sweet to Dani and their relationship was so cute. Just wish that there was more to it than romance 🥲

Loved it.

The H & h start out as somewhat antagonistic and unwilling housemates (mostly on Will's part anyway). Dani manages to convince Will to accept her as his tenant/housemate due to a stroke of unexpected fortune even though he'd only wanted a male housemate. But as they start sharing the house, an unexpected friendship blossoms.

The author did a brilliant job with the story. I totally enjoyed the cheeky, teasing relationship that slowly develops between Dani & Will. Loved both their characters. Both are total geeks. Dani is unpretentious and doesn't have a lot of self esteem when it comes to her looks but is confident in herself when it comes to her capabilities.

The story is humorous yet wonderfully sweet in it's romance. Loved how the author made the simple act of holding hands poignant and a revelation to how their relationship had grown.

Highly recommended.

I absolutely loved this book! I devoured it and stayed up so late my eyes stung!
The characters were brilliant!!! Everyone should have a Will! Not your run of the mill characters... No whining or cringe moments, they were Halarious! It was sweet, intimate and lovely to read! Reading 2 people become soul mates was so uplifting!
Going to miss these characters ❤️ wish there was more x

courtship should start with friendship, and sometimes rules help!

What a wonderful read, that actually kept this horror aficionado suitably engaged! There are nice, true feelings conveyed by the author, and real-life situations are easy to see happening to yourself.

Pretty good but also pretty predictable. A feel good novel for sure! The author really captivates the buildup of confessing one’s feelings that make it so relatable.

I adored this book the characters were so great and I loved the relationship between them both. I loved Will he was such a charming character and he had reminded me so much of Chandler from friends which made me love him more. The dynamic of this book was very well done and can’t wait to read it again in the future ❤️
