You can learn some Farsi from this book, but I cannot recommend it very highly. I think it is a bad mistake for a textbook to have something like a chapter on adverbs, to introduce thirty in that chapter, then move on.
Also it seems very questionable to me to delay introducing any systematic discussion of any verb other than 'be' to the second half of the book.
There are various glitches with the exercises as well; it is really essential that if you are asked to translate back and forth than every English word in an example be present in the vocabulary (grammatical words excepted, of course...) Ditto for the Persian.
I think it is also a serious error to delay discussion of the actual colloquial pronunciations of various Persian words to an appendix at the end. The spelling and pronunciation of Persian diverge at points, and it seems to me that it would be much more sensible to discuss this every time an affected vocabulary item/morpheme appears.
Eigenlijk een zeer goed leerboek. Het krijgt geen hoger cijfer omdat het bedoeld is om vanaf nul te starten, maar ik vrees dat dit niet zou gelukt zijn. Ik heb de indruk dat het zeer volledig is. Tweede recensie na het uittesten van mijn kennis in Iran ...
Not useful for learning grammar and colloquial Persian but if you want to dabble in Persian and learn some historical stuff about the culture and language, then buying this book might be a good idea, which is why I bought this book. But other than that, it's lacking in many ways.
the grammar variations explained in this book is not enough, imho. after finishing the last chapter only simple grammar notes were explained, when all other essential things r rushed at the appendix. the book is too easy, and in fact not many new things are learned, so it becomes less effective as a 'teach yourself' book.
I got this because I want to be able to read the script. I've just started. Thus far I've learned that ab means water and there are no capital letters in Persian.
