Jupiter Tides #2

Method for Matrimony

Rate this book
Marrying Kip Goodman was a last resort.

But she was desperate. Desperate enough to marry a man she despised.
All she had to do was get through the year married to a cocky alpha male who only thought of women as notches on his bedpost.

She had her reasons.
So did he.

They had to lie to their friends and families, try to survive a year with each other.

It was that simple.

Until it became clear she had to resist him.
Because Kip Goodman wasn’t who she thought he was.
And that was dangerous.

4 I'm Gonna Grow On You Stars ⭐

I believe you're one of the lucky ones when you have friends that will cut you back to size. Because this marriage may have started out of convenience, but skeletons in a closet never remain there. But with the help of true friends comes hope and support.

“We both have needs. I’m not gonna be a nun for a year, and I sure as fuck know you won’t be a monk.”

“I won’t be,” he agreed. “But I’m your husband, so I’m going to be tending to your needs.”

I was a little anxious about reading Kip and Fiona's story after meeting them in Recipe for Love. Both were players. A feisty girl and the manslut. Not my favourite pairing. And initially I didn't like how this story started either. They may have married for their own selfish reasons, but neither were appreciative of the sacrifice.

Yet as these two settled into their relationship, Fiona became a little less prickly and Kip relaxed. And with every change in this arrangement (hot sex for one), the marriage became a little less of a sham. Except, when a baby gets introduced into the mix, shit gets real and Kip can't step up.

“I’m going to win you back,”

“You can’t win me back,” I said, my voice even despite the swirling of my insides. “You never had me in the first place.”

It was ugly. Secrets and trauma are a bitch. Especially unresolved ones. It was devastating watching Fiona struggle through the pregnancy alone while Kip loses himself along the way. Except when a second chance presents itself, all is not lost.

This story really redeemed itself. Neither Fiona or Kip were innocent in this mess but two broken strangers planning for a baby? It was a tall order for them. I also ended up warming to Fiona and loved the growth in Kip. I'm a sucker for contemporary romances with bite, and I enjoyed the originality of this author's writing and the grittiness she brings!

I'm so not into veterans - especially when they don't question their love for war and don't do therapy afterwards, but instead make the lives of those around them hell... 🚩🚩🚩
After the first book I wasn't expecting much, but things got even worse.
I'm done.
.
These 2 stars are only for Fiona, she's such a strong sweetheart and deserves so much more than this "HEA" she got.

This book was pretty disappointing, from what I had seen on social media reviews. The writing for one, made the characters unlikeable and annoying. All they did the entire book was sleep together and fight. I too curse like a sailor but it is unnecessary to put curse words in where they don’t belong… like ““I’ll go buy it, cook it, and you will fucking eat it. Steak, lasagna, whatever the fuck.” why? And if I had to read “great tits or fantastic tits” as a description for the main character, Fiona, again, i’d stab my eyeballs out. I think both characters were at fault for their miscommunication and distance. Constantly lashing out at each other and still carrying trauma without properly healing from them. I could see they were in love at the very end, but throughout the book their relationship was defined by their love making. Kip even says, “I made a promise to myself then and there that I’d never fucking love something that much to feel that pain again…“Then you came along. With your fucking filthy mouth, your tits, the fire in your eyes” LIKE what?? If a man told me that, I would never forgive him.

I am a big fan of marriage of convenience romances, and this one really hit the spot.

Fiona is outspoken Australian who is about to be deported, and Kip is the cocky guy in their small friend group who has his own reasons for offering to marry her. They started with “on paper only” green card marriage, which obviously developed into more.

I knew this story would touch on hard topics (check TWs), but I was still surprised by the gut-wrenching angst and the grovel which was so, so satisfying.

Although the story wasn’t perfect, I know I’ll be rereading this when I want to be devastated, so it gets an automatic 5 stars.

Where has this book been all my life?? I’m in love with Kip, but
I’m even more in love with his wife.

Method for matrimony is an amazing take on a fake marriage. It’s the typical stuff: girl needs green card, guy thinks fake marriage will get his mom off his back, obviously girl and boy fall in love. Except here’s the kicker: she’s the most stubborn yet loving character you’ll ever meet and she does not back down.

Tropes are
- marriage of convenience
- enemies to lovers
- forced proximity
- one bed
- surprise pregnancy
- groveling

TW
- loss of spouse/child
- domestic abuse
- miscarriage

Despite the typical beginning, I was not expecting the turns this book took. I hated Kip, I won’t lie to you. I was ready to crawl directly into those pages and slap Kip for Fiona, but you know what? I didn’t have to. Because Fiona’s got it covered and if she doesn’t, she’s got a line of people willing to fight for her and it had me balling my eyes out the support she has. It’s the kind of friendships you dream to have.

This is a review, but it’s going to read more like a love letter to Fiona. She is fierce, strong willed, protective, genuine, and a force to be reckon with. I knew I loved her from the first book when it was described that Fiona thought her boss/best friend’s crush (now husband) was a tall drink of water, but backed off once she realized. I knew I loved her then. And I loved her even more when she fiercely protected her best friends. I fell even more in love with her when she encouraged her to fall in love. And I didn’t think I could fall in love with her even more, but I did watching her protect herself and her unborn child. When she realizes the life she’s getting, you can feel it in the pages that she doesn’t think it’s real and is almost scared to wake up from the dream, but it’s real. And it’s hers. And man, does she deserve it. She deserves every single good thing coming for her.

The unsung heroes were the moms of this book. Kip and Fiona’s moms were amazing and I wish I had a mom like theirs. I cried when Fiona’s mom came into the book.

Kip… the man frustrated me beyond belief and I don’t even care because after the stuff that he went through and the groveling he did, I fell for him just as much as Fiona did. Was Kip kinda crappy? Yes. Do I think he genuinely knows the mistake he made and is paying for his actions? 100%. I love that Fiona doesn’t just let him back in, he has to grovel. And the groveling is amazing.

I’m not over this book. I don’t know if I ever will be.

Recipe for Love walked so Method for Matrimony could run.

1. I just didn't like Fiona. She was crass and had a foul mouth.
2. When all of their friends and family were outraged at Kip for abandoning Fiona when she got pregnant, he seemed much more upset by Calliope's anger than by Fiona's.
3. After Kip's betrayal, I loved that he finally realized what he had done and what he had lost. We could really see his guilt and regret. I thought there was going to be some good grovel but ... nope. Instead of trying to earn Fiona's forgiveness, all we got was a bunch of scenes where Kip forced his way back into Fiona's life (and bed) and started ordering her around and telling her what she could and couldn't do.
4. Withholding sex from her to make her agree to whatever he wanted??? Are you f#%king kidding me??? 🤬🤬🤬🤬
I ended up not enjoying this book. I felt like Fiona only forgave Kip because he forced her to. I finished it so I gave it 2 stars.

Better then the first definitely.
I hate the dead ex trope, this had the dead wife AND daughter trope. 🙄🙄

However, it didn't bother me as much in this book although Kip (H) definitely had a lot to make up for. And he did at one point address his feelings for his first wife and for Fiona (h). Which I liked because after that, I didn't really care about this dreaded trope that I can't stand. All in all, this was an enjoyable book. 💟💖
And I do want more from this series from other characters it's hinted at, in this series. 💓

A lot of this book was like catnip to me, honestly; the tropes, the plot, it was right up my street. There was a good thread of angst running through this that I found really delicious to read, and the romance was good. The sexual tension between Kip and Fiona was good and the sex scenes were well-written and very sensual. There was also a really nice domestic, sweet edge to the relationship that was lovely.

However, there were a few things about this book that I wasn’t keen on. The angsty parts were the highlights and I think it needed more of them; certain things were resolved between them quicker than I would have liked. The green card element of the plot felt very low-stakes in the end. But my main issue was with the conclusion of the novel, which was very silly, in my opinion. It was very over-the-top and upsetting and felt jarring compared to the rest of the book. It just wasn’t necessary and felt totally out of place, and it was a real shame, as it detracted from the rest of the book.

Overall, though, it was an easy, entertaining read if you like the tropes it contains.

Content Notes: Marriage of convenience, hate-to-love, unplanned pregnancy.

Please check for CW before you head into this one.

I broke my rule and jumped into book #2 before I read #1 and I'm kinda bummed about it because I would've loved to see Rowan and Nora fall in love if he's the grump he was in this book.

Method for Matrimony hurt my heart. Kip and Fiona had both gone through such horrific tragedies in their lives before finding themselves in Juniper and when they lay it all out, I felt so much sadness for them. This was a couple I was rooting for.

I found Fiona to be a little angrier than I thought was warranted given Kip was just kinda being an idiot when they first met. I don't think that should've marked years of snarky remarks and being brushed off given he was besties with her besties. When we finally moved onto something more I was excited to see where it was going to go and I HOPED it'd stick but it can't always be perfect.

These two had a lot to sort through and they were hellbent on not sorting through it. When it blows up in their face.... 0 people are surprised by it. Watching them work it out (or not work it out, I guess) was like watching two street cats fight honestly.

I liked this a lot. It left me wanting a little more but I'm not mad about it.

🛠️ forced proximity
💍 dislike to love
🛠️ surprise pregnancy
💍 "I'll win you back"

mini blurb — ✍🏻
Kip offers a fake marriage in order to get Fiona her green card and his overbearing mother off his back. They both keep a tight lip around their past, even when their problems starts throwing a spanner in their planned life together.
Kip wouldn't deal with his past repeating itself and Fiona is forced to deal with her fears, up util they both get a wake-up call that shake the precarious balance they were set in.

//

I should have expected this was deeper than I had imagined.
I sort of eased myself in the book, the funny banter between Fiona and Kip, her peppery attitude and his easygoing charme fooled me good. 😩🖤
But, oh I so loved them, I hated Kip for a good time and wanted to shake him, slap him in the face and force him to *do* smth.
And finally hug them both, bc they both needed a good bear-hug 🥹

Method for Matrimony is a fake marriage story and I loved the direction the author took with it. I found this a fun and engaging story, one that also touches on some serious subjects. This doesn't follow the normal formula for this genre. We have the woman needing the green card and the man agreeing to get his mum off his back. I was lulled into a false sense of security by the fun banter and teasing never imagining I would have such an extreme reaction to a character. I loved Fiona, she is feisty strong willed with a huge heart. Kip made me so angry, I wanted to jump into the pages and give him a slap. Fiona is capable of being her own cheerleader and she has an army of friends who give her love and support when she needs it most. I like that this story was so character driven and felt like I really got to know both Kip and Fiona well. We not only see their struggles in the present but also see how their pasts had shaped them and influenced their decisions and actions in the present. I like how this author makes her stories relatable and you can tell with this one she has given is even more of herself.

Would’ve given the book more stars if the grovling had been satisfying (it wasn't even there, everything he did was the bare minimum of things he should have done for his PREGNANT wife), the MMC less control addicted and dictating and the FMC less aggressive and annoyingly argumentative

Tropes:
- Marriage of Convenience
- Enemies to Lovers
- Surprise Pregnancy
- Forced Proximity
- One Bed
- Tortured Past
- Groveling

I didn’t think I could love a couple more than Nora and Rowan from book 1 (Recipe For Love), but Fiona and Kip surprised me in the best way possible. I thought I knew how this story was going to play out and boy was I wrong. This was such a beautiful story between two broken people with tragic pasts. Fiona and Kip truly saved each other. I won’t lie, Kip UPSET me for a huge chunk of this book. All I kept thinking was this man better kiss the ground she walks on and grovel until the end of time… and that he definitely did that!

I cried so much through this book. This story hit very close to home for the author and because of that I was crying in not only the book, but in the authors note and acknowledgments too. If I could give Anne the biggest hug I would.

Anne Malcom has quickly become an auto-buy author for me. Her characters always have so much depth. She truly knows how to completely break your heart and put it back together.

Method for Matrimony follows Kip and Fiona who agree to get married in order for Fiona to get a green card and Kip to keep his mother off his back. At first they had an agreement that it was just a marriage of convenience but as time passes they slowly start building up a real marriage. Both Kip and Fiona have a very traumatic past. They both have endure grief and loss.

Kip and Fiona story was very touching and heartfelt. If your looking to read a book that includes marriage of convenience, witty banter, small town romance and groveling then I recommend you this book.

Fiona and Kip were made for each other. They both were hard on the outside but soft on the inside, they just needed the right person to chip away at that shell. They both had traumatic pasts that they tried to keep hidden.
Their banter was hilarious and their chemistry was smoking hot.
If you like books with overbearing Alpha Males and sassy strong women who keep them on their toes you need to pick this book up!!

Perfect companion to Recipe for Love

Of course Fiona needed her own book, and Fiona with Kip? Are so stupidly good together, to each other.

I know there is pain, and bickering, fights, trauma and sorrow, but I really love this story, because everything is kinda relatable, kinda.

So if you haven’t, give this story a chance, Anne Malcom does have a way with words and characters, and this story does not disappoint. It even feels sweeter due to all the things happening in it.

I enjoyed the fact that Fiona has a backbone made of steel and didn't forgive Kip for being a stupid asshole just because he dumped his trauma all over her after being scared.
Which leads me to my issue with this book, why isn't Kip going to therapy? What he needs is counseling!! I understand it isn't that easy or
Anyways, it was a good ride and enough angst to fill the void.
