The claw,

Rate this book
A story of South Africa in which the lure of the far off land is as a claw that drags men to her and fastens into their hearts forever. The heroine is a spirited girl of eighteen, who, though born under the stars and stripes, has Irish blood in her veins and an Irish love of adventure. She penetrates to Mashonaland where her bravery is grimly taxed in the presence of tragedy brought about by an uprising among the savage Matabele warriors. She learns of life; she learns the treachery of love; she learns what the spirit of hope can do for a submerged community.

A sometimes and marginally supernatural novel, but one of her more popular books perhaps because of the daring content.
