Mixed Bag. Helped me. Good Starting Point/Refresher.

The book is repetitive. As another reviewer pointed out, some sentences & paragraphs are cut & pasted into multiple places. Some areas of the book also feature repetitive ranting.

When it is stated that info will be given in another chapter, it should only go into the referenced chapter. I believe that many of these issues are because (as the author states in the book) his journal was made into this book.

The book has tons of information that will be most helpful to people whom have never gone to therapy. I at first greatly disliked the chapter beginning summaries, but I used them to help me quickly find the information that I wanted; and then I skipped the basic stuff after the first two chapters.

I've had over 25 years of therapy in my adult life; still, this book helped me because I have been trying to determine whether I want to cut out my narcissistic mom & my very toxic sister. I am 53. The book has given me options and insights for which I am grateful.

Some information could easily and possibly more appropriately create a separate work.

Bottom line: If you can overlook the repetition, & organization, this is a treasure trove for those new to or considering going to therapy, & to those wanting a review &/or guide about toxic relationships.

I would recommend this book to friends. Also, it is inexpensive.
