Twenty-four-year-old Arabella struggled to stand on her own two feet despite being incredibly hard-working. Long hours in her waitressing job did little to help provide the income needed for the one-room apartment she shared with her best friend, Letty. A childhood gift from her parents, Letty, an owl, had always remained by her side.
On her 25th birthday, when Arabella blew out the candles on her birthday cake, her life changed forever. Letty flew out of the window of her cramped apartment, and in a panic, Arabella followed her. Reaching the edge of her small town, she catches the owl and returns home to find the apartment on fire. With her entire past gone up in flames and white smoke rising into the sky, Arabella felt desolate.
That was, until she noticed a strange red tag pinned to Letty's leg. Taking the tag, she opened it with curiosity, and inside, a small blue note
Arabella Evans, Congratulations on your acceptance to Moon Academy.
Book 1 of J. P. Feather’s Moon Academy series, Crescent Phase is a tale that combines elements of ordinary struggles and extraordinary circumstances. Arabella, a hardworking 24-year-old, faces the challenges of making ends meet with her best friend, an owl named Letty, by her side. However, a surreal twist on her 25th birthday changes everything. When Letty flies away and Arabella's home bursts into flames, her life takes a dramatic turn. Discovering a mysterious note tied to Letty's leg, hinting at her acceptance to Moon Academy, Arabella's story enters the realm of the supernatural.
While this story introduces a familiar, though promising, concept of a magical world filled with werewolves, witches, vampires, and dragons, the uneven pacing and the language, especially the switching between present tense and past tense, often in the same sentence, made it very difficult to read. Additionally, while I didn’t care much for the FMC, I couldn’t get enough of the MMC (I kinda love him). However, the pacing picks up around chapter 4, and if you can get past the issues with the writing, you’ll find yourself hooked by the MCs’ entwined stories, the twists and turns, the suspense, and that cliffhanger ending!
Ideal for fans of the Harry Potter and Zodiac Academy series.
~Supernatural Academy ~Slow Burn ~Best Friends to Strangers to Lovers ~Witches, mages, shifters, and vampires
Review:
Already looking forward to Book 2!
I love a good supernatural academy setting, and this certainly delivered. I enjoyed reading this and found it hard to put it down. I also found myself enjoying the friends to strangers to lovers’ trope, I found it to be well done!
Letty has my heart! 🦉❤️
If you enjoy Harry Potter, books with shifters and vampires, then I suggest you give this one a read!
*I received this as an ARC, and I am leaving an honest and voluntary review*
Oh I want to be able to give this book 5 stars, but it needs serious editing. There are so many typos, grammatical errors, etc. The story is good, but the writing is difficult to read due to the errors in grammar mostly. A lot of the phrasing seems off somehow as well. It took about half the book before I could really let it go and fully get into this book. If you can get past the odd phrasing used, etc then this is honestly a very good story with a great plot. Lots of mystery. Some of it I was able to figure out and some of it caught me by surprise in a very good way. Crossing my fingers that this author connects with a good editor because she would easily be a 5 star author with an editor in her corner.
This was an interesting take on supernatural species, decided by the pose of the moon rather than by blood or bite. I like the school song as well. Academia has been strong lately in fantasy. Arabella is taken from her life and thrown into this academy by magic, lead to a life she never knew could exist. As she settled, she makes both friends and foes, and isn't quote sure which some of her classmates are.
I love watching Arabella find her feet in this. Coming into a magical world and being not only to learn about multiple species of creator, but also learning about her past and who to trust was a prime setting for discovery.
In Crescent Phase by J.P. Feather is the first book in the Moon Academy series. Arabella’s life changes as she gets into the Moon Academy, a school she has never even heard from.
The story took me by surprise, as the FMC is not a teenager, but a young woman and that is rather refreshing. She gets thrown in an unknown world and find out she is also different. It took me some time to get into the story, but then it was hard to put the book down. It has a good storyline with some twist and turns and with likable characters. The writing style was fine as was the worldbuilding. I can’t wait for the next book!
Arc copy given in exchange for a fair and honest review and does not change my opinion of the book…..
I really liked this book, the concept behind all of it was very interesting. The authors take on supernatural beings getting their abilities from the moon rather than by any of the “normal” ways. It took me a little bit to get into it but once I did I was hooked. I really liked Arabella and her roommate.
I did like the fact that she was not a child but older, it definitely made it easier for me to connect with her and I can't wait for book 2.
If you like books filled with Shifters, vampires, and werewolves definitely give this book a chance.
Other than some need for another round of edits (some mistypes, and grammar issues) which didn't pull me out of it too much, and some levels of predictability I enjoyed the progression in the story. I found both MCs very likeable (minus how they were missing a lot of clues as to how things were going to unfold etc.). They definitely were bad detectives for a bit there 😂. Also slow burn of death but it's fine I had a good time and I do plan to finish the series.
I really loved this book, Arabella dropped in a totally new world when she chased her owl who flew out the window. It’s a must read. It’s surprising exciting has a strong storyline and characters. I was choose. To arc read this story and I enjoyed it very much. So hope I get invited for book 2.
I love Harry Potter and I read reviews that recommended this book. I do like the factor that the age group is older than j.k.rowling's were. Especially since I am older now as well. I loved the story and the characters. I did struggle with it needing to be editing better. I can overlook spelling errors easier. It was the phrases that caught me, and I had to reread a few of them.
This book needs some serious editing. It's very difficult to read in some locations, almost as if it were poorly translated to English from another language. It has a great story line and lots of potential, but due to the poor writing I will not be reading the rest of the series.
I wish I could 1 star ⭐️ this book a thousand times! It was so cringy, on so many levels. The worst was the dialogue, my god, I feel like AI wrote this dialogue, & on an entry level at that. It was too predictable & awkward. Worst was how the characters spoke, they spoke in ever convo like they were speaking to toddlers rather than adults.
It’s s good book. The characters are interesting. It is written for younger people and the themes doesn’t interest me as someone in their late twenties.
This book is good for younger people and is lighthearted to an extent.
I wasn't sure about the book at first, but as I got into the story, I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the next book. This book puts quite a different spin on the supernatural. It is amazing.
This book was so refreshing, usually we have teenagers but I really liked the young adult better. Plot twists were unexpected and the description of the academy and it's hall are just so beautiful to imagine walking through. Really great book 🩷
Arabella is brought to Moon Academy, where she finds out she is a werewolf. She just came from the human world and knows nothing of the supernatural world of witches, vampires, werewolf and dragons. Her roommate and friend Logan help her navigate this new world.
One of the best books I've read in a long time . I did not get bored one time Once started I could not do anything until I finished. Thank you for this wonderful book.
This was a new author to me so glad I took a chance and read this book. The author was able to bring the characters and Academy to life with their writing. I was hooked from the beginning until the end. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!
The story is there. But the dialog is lacking in areas. Some parts are overdone, as other parts could use more description. It's a good story and has the potential to be really good. I'm hoping that the second book is better written.
This was a fantastic series starter. Arabella is 25 when she's thrust into the world of supernaturals. Follow her as she learns about powers and her past....and her future. This would have been 5 stars but there are quite a few editing mistakes. .
If you like paranormal it has that perfect amount of everything. Romance, adventure, mystery, and like able characters. I always love a good strong female protagonist. Worth a read for sure.
I really enjoyed this book. I know people are not happy with editing, but I liked either way. I needed to read more and more. I am happy with the book and got the 2nd one straight away. I loved all the characters and hated the ones I was meant to. I felt everything I wish they where actually movies
I picked this book for free & gave it a try. It took me a little bit to get into this book. Glad I did continue reading. This had mysteries, magic & other. Definitely a great ending, which was a surprise end to this 1st book.
