Someone wants Alec dead. Someone who can invade innocent bystanders, bending their will to his, forcing them to murder. Someone who can travel through multiple dimensions, has powers beyond Earthly experience, and knows everything Alec knows. How do you fight someone like that? Riley is a target too. And like Alec, a target of more than just someone. The Tyons have come to Earth too, looking for kids like Riley and Alec. Kids with special genetic traits they aren’t even aware of and don’t know how to control. It’s a race against time. Will someone find them all first and kill them, or do they have the edge needed to save themselves, and more importantly, the world?
We have teenagers with untrained abilities, aliens that are after them, destruction of the cities because of said aliens who are after said teenagers. It is up to the guardians to find and train them but is one gone rogue? Because it seems the "big bad" can find them rather quick or is there another reason.
It was alright, it had a few quirky lines that got a smirk out of me. Was it the best YA science fiction novel, nope but you know what it was no where near the worst. I didn't love it but I enjoyed it. What I do love is the fact that I just happened to pick it up at the library knowing nothing about it. Not only that but discovering upon opening it that it written by a local author and published locally as well.
There seems to be a hint of more to come in another book, so I think because I did enjoy it I'll look and see if there is abother book in the story.
I wanted to like this book, but the extreme in media res-ness of its opening and the voices of the characters put me off. I will give it another go sometime, but for now I have to set it aside. The issues with the book are not large, but they are consistent so far (up to chapter 4).
Villainous aliens and kids with special powers? A secret galactic agency? Zombies? A fight to save all life on Earth from being wiped out - all set in...Canada?
You betcha! Susan McDonald is a wonderful first-time writer who will keep you turning pages in a fast-paced race to find out the story's ending. It's marketed as young adult science fiction, but as an adult I thoroughly enjoyed it. I decided to buy it after I read the review at: http://www.southerngazette.ca/Columns...
I enjoyed this. Was it earth-shatteringly great? No, but few things are. It is a good, solid read, especially for those looking for familiar Canadian settings in SF for a change. Newfoundland is such a perfect setting for secret alien bases.
Aliens time travel and humans trying to save the world. This book sure had a lot going on. I found it intriguing in how they pulled everything together, but found it frustrating how it ended. I found myself asking, what??
It will be interesting to see how it all ties together.
I loved it. It was fast paced, exciting, suspenseful and well-written. The characters were very likeable and there was plenty of humour. It was a very enjoyable read and I hope Susan writes more.
