The story of the gods is incomplete. New gods have arisen, but the old gods will not be easily displaced. Lan needs to understand the god-touched power that flows through him, but cannot control. A new danger proves more deadly than he can withstand, and he fears a resurgence of the deadly Shavln power. Sophie has become a powerful sorcerer, and now serves both the Raven Queen and Dannith, but struggles to find her balance while searching for a greater understanding of her magic. She’s no longer reliant on the patterns, but that only proves how little she understands. Their fates remain intertwined, and together they defend the combined kingdoms. This time, the coming threat may be more than even they can overpower. The Dappled Dread continues an epic progression fantasy series.
What an incredible story. I love Nevarn so much and he’s such a sweetheart. I would love to have a lot more of Ridaln on the next book but this one was so good! The characters are likable and enjoyable to read about so I’m really excited for the next one!
Having high expectations for this book, I was very disappointed. The Dappled Dread had more grammatical errors than previous books in this series. It is in need of serious proofreading and editing. I marked some of them, but it's tedious to try to read a book and the typos and grammatical mistakes just keep popping up. Therefore, I started skipping pages that just seemed to drone on and on and certain catch words were used in every sentence, sometimes twice in a long sentence. It added nothing to the story but did add more words and more pages to the book. Books 1 and 2 were better than 3; 4 is worse than 3.
I give it 4 stars because the storyline is good, but come on! Why do you have to make the two main characters so clueless? I like Lan, but he said the same thing over and over and over and over, etc. and couldn't figure it out til 98% in the book? What? Was he just page filler? Sophie should have gotten better after realizing what she was becoming, but you didn't make her more likable. Why? Hope the next book is redeeming.
I would have enjoyed the book more of it hadn't been focused so much on word count. I taught myself to skip reading God power which was way over used. Story line otherwise was good. Looking forward to the continuing story.
