I honestly don’t know if I have ever read a Western novel before, but as Sigmund Brouwer is one of my favourite authors, I decided to try it. I’m glad I did! This book was set in the American Midwest in the late 1800’s. Sam Keaton is the marshal of the community of Laramie. He begins to investigate the deaths of two men in a bank. His investigation leads him to near death experiences himself.
I initially thought that I had books 2 and 3 of this series. It turns out that I had 1 and 2. This was book 2. Now I’ll have to read book 1 after!
After reading book one a few months ago, I wasn't sure if I would want to read more in the series. Book two was better than book one and interesting enough to make me want to keep on reading. I'm not much of a fan of westerns or mysteries, but somehow this one was okay because it was all about the characters. They were set in a western and they had a mystery on their hands, but it felt like the focus was primarily on the people, and I cared about the people I was supposed to like.
