About the author

Stephen Edwin King was born the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. After his father left them when Stephen was two, he and his older brother, David, were raised by his mother. Parts of his childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. When Stephen was eleven, his mother brought her children back to Durham, Maine, for good. Her parents, Guy and Nellie Pillsbury, had become incapacitated with old age, and Ruth King was persuaded by her sisters to take over the physical care of them. Other family members provided a small house in Durham and financial support. After Stephen's grandparents passed away, Mrs. King found work in the kitchens of Pineland, a nearby residential facility for the mentally challenged.

Stephen attended the grammar school in Durham and Lisbon Falls High School, graduating in 1966. From his sophomore year at the University of Maine at Orono, he wrote a weekly column for the school newspaper, THE MAINE CAMPUS. He was also active in student politics, serving as a member of the Student Senate. He came to support the anti-war movement on the Orono campus, arriving at his stance from a conservative view that the war in Vietnam was unconstitutional. He graduated in 1970, with a B.A. in English and qualified to teach on the high school level. A draft board examination immediately post-graduation found him 4-F on grounds of high blood pressure, limited vision, flat feet, and punctured eardrums.

He met Tabitha Spruce in the stacks of the Fogler Library at the University, where they both worked as students; they married in January of 1971. As Stephen was unable to find placement as a teacher immediately, the Kings lived on his earnings as a laborer at an industrial laundry, and her student loan and savings, with an occasional boost from a short story sale to men's magazines.

Stephen made his first professional short story sale ("The Glass Floor") to Startling Mystery Stories in 1967. Throughout the early years of his marriage, he continued to sell stories to men's magazines. Many were gathered into the Night Shift collection or appeared in other anthologies.

In the fall of 1971, Stephen began teaching English at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and to work on novels.

Završen prvi deo, uzbuđenje je na maximumu 😊 Knjiga od 400 i kusur strana u kojoj se pisac uglavnom bazira na likove. Tiho uvodi u ovu apokaliptičnu priču, ali samo prividno tiho i lagano. Zapravo vas sve vreme voza neverovatnom brzinom, leti, ne dozvoljava predah. To može samo King 😊

Citesc cărți în spiritul vremurilor, zău așa. După ce m-am înfricoșat corespunzător cu Station eleven a lui Emily St. John Mandel, am dat peste Apocalipsul lui Stephen King, care ilustrează încă mai bine situația actuală, King fiind, ca de obicei, regele – atît al previziunilor cît și al ororilor. Numai uitați-vă nițel cum și-a imaginat el, încă din 1978, o pandemie gripală:

Chestia asta mă sperie, Starkey. Mă sperie, pentru că doar un medic foarte inteligent, care cunoaște bine toate dedesubturile, ar fi în stare să deosebească pe oamenii cu o răceală obișnuită de purtătorii acestei boli. Cristoase, nimeni nu se mai duce la doctor decât cu pneumonii, dacă simt un nodul la sân sau dacă fac erupții grave pe piele. Nu merită să-ți bați capul ca să chemi pe cineva să te consulte. Așa că vor rămâne acasă, vor bea lichide și se vor odihni la pat, după care vor muri.

Dar mai ales cum și-a imaginat reacția autorităților, în frunte cu un președinte al Statelor Unite de tip Trump:

Stimați concetățeni americani, vă recomand să rămâneți în casele voastre. Dacă vă simțiți bolnavi, stați la pat, luați aspirină și beți cât mai multe lichide. Aveți încredere că vă veți simți mai bine, în cel mult o săptămână. Vă rog să-mi permiteți să repet ceea ce v-am spus la începutul cuvântului meu din această seară. Știrea că acest gen de gripă ar fi fatal este neadevărată ― absolut neadevărată.

Трябва да призная, че това е първият ми сблъсък със Стивън Кинг и беше точно това, което очаквах. Майсторството му е неоспоримо, разнообразен език, невероятно образни сравнения, страхотна ирония.
Толкова трупове, че и с булдозер не можеш ги изрина. Сюжетът сам по себе си не е от най-оригиналните, но развитието на един подобен сценарий говори за структурата на цялото ни общество. Хубавото е, че с разговорния си стил Кинг дава хляб на всеки вид читател - който иска да търси дълбочината, ще я намери; който не иска да се тормози толкова - има една воняща от разлагаща се плът история.

O carte care ar trebui sa ma inspaimante a reusit, de fapt, sa ma puna pe ganduri. Si sa ma enerveze maxim: nu, nu coronavirusul actual este ceva distrugator, ci gripa imaginata de Stephen King in anii 80.

Une lecture qui au regard des circonstances actuelles nous apprend que la fiction n’est jamais très loin de la réalité et surtout que la connerie des gens est une valeur universelle et intemporelle.
Cette lecture insuffle un peu de paranoïa supplémentaire , délivre son pouvoir anxiogène au fil de ses pages et des descriptions très imagées ...
À mettre dans les mains de celles et ceux qui préfèrent voir le pire pour envisager toutes les autres pistes avec sérénité... et à faire lire à ceux qui se pensent encore invincibles.

4.5-5 stars.
Enfin, je lis "Le Fléau" ! J'en ai tellement entendu parler, et après avoir fini cette première partie, je comprends tout à fait pourquoi.
J'aime beaucoup quand la narration switch d'un personnage à l'autre, qu'aucun d'eux ne se connaisse encore, et me réjouis du moment où ils seront tous réunis.. s'ils y arrivent.
Un roman qui fait frissonner, car totalement plausible ..

„Сблъсък“ на Стивън Кинг е мащабен и емоционален роман, който разказва историята на апокалипсиса през множество гледни точки. В началото темпото може да се стори бавно, но постепенно осъзнаваш, че това е начинът на Кинг да те потопи изцяло в света и героите. Особено ми хареса работата му с героите – Лари Ъндърууд и Харолд Лодър. Те са изключително добре изградени, със сложни и многопластови личности. Финалът оставя трайно впечатление и доказва защо романът е класика.

Отзивът е за цялото произведение от три книги.
Определям книгата като "хубава", но само толкова. Както и че един истински фен на Кинг трябва да я прочете. За мен е прекалено разтеглена с описания, които можеха да бъдат спестени, с оглед на динамиката на самото действие. Сюжетът можеше да бъде разгърнат и в доста по-малко страници, които обаче наистина да спират дъха от началото до края. Обърнато е прекалено (според мен) внимание на описания и незначителни герои, а някои наистина интересни неща за действието са останали неказани. След заминаването на майка Абигейл от Боулдър действието спира за тази така важна и ключова героиня. Наистина очаквах завръщането й да допринесе за нещо голямо и да има достойно излагане на добрата страна на нещата, но такова просто липсваше. Поради тази причина липсваше и плътност на мотива за тръгването на четиримата към Лас Вегас. Животът на героите Ник, Харолд и Надин бяха пресечени рязко, без логичен (за мен) край - пак толкова много недоизказани неща. Сънищата на Стю за Франи накрая - никакъв смисъл от тях, освен да поддържат някак изкуствено напрежението. Самият сблъсък добро-зло ми беше немотивиран. Прекалено много въпроси останаха без отговор, а излишните неща просто ми се набиха на очи. Ако не беше добре познатият перфектен стил на писане на Стиви, тази книга щеше да е поставена накрая на някоя моя лична класация. И пак казвам - не че е безинтересна; просто ми се щеше да е по-майсторски написана, като Кулата например!
Не съжалявам за прочитането, това е Кралят все пак; но повторен прочит едва ли ще има от мен.

I love Stephen King more than any other writer in the world, but how I dislike his 400-pages-long introduction!
I KNOW that’s his signature, and I know that’s what makes his books so perfect at the end, but still!
Just let me hate this intro for a bit.

Толкова ниска оценка за Кинг не бях давала до сега, надявам се другите две части да са по-силни. Като цяло идеята ми харесва, но много локуми разтяга :)
