I’m invested enough in this series that I just listened to an audiobook with an AI narrator. It was pretty dumb. Please hire real audiobook narrator who know not to read *** out loud before sections (“asterisk asterisk asterisk!”).
EDIT: To my surprise there are two more books remaining in the series, not one. So, we'll see how that goes.
I feel very disappointed in certain aspects of this series. The grammatical errors. The author confusing characters when they are conversing with each other (although that only happened once, it still peeves me when books have writing errors). Also, very short book again. Only 197 pages.
Overall, the story was okay. We learned more about Taylor's powers and how they are being handled. I like that certain chapters are written from the perspective of different characters in the book. We are getting to see inside their minds as well which has been interesting.
The only reason I continue to read this series is because the author is good at making the reader interested in the characters. Their dialogue is well written and the character development is interesting. Also, I have come this far in the series, only the last book to read (which will be released this October 2023) so I have to know how it ends.
I was given an ARC of this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I have the previous ones in the series. I particularly liked the first-person narrative, and this story was told from several points of view.
There was plenty of action, thoughts and feelings, which gave depth and reality to the story as a whole. A long list of characters brought intrigue and interest and the plot was twisty and mysterious. There was tension and the tale hooked me from the start. Taylor is my favourite character because she is tenacious, and kind and always tries to do the right thing.
Overall, this was an engaging story and I am looking forward to reading what happens next.
Once again, enjoyed the story, except for the glitches in editing that tripped me up and had me backtracking to see what was said when words were missing/misspelled or something nonsensical was said, such as putting “my hands in my head” on more than one occasion. If one likes to visualize as they read, one has to stop and decide if she/he put their hands on their head or their head in their hands, gestures that can, but not always convey the same meaning, in much the same way that one character noted that while all squares are rectangular, not all rectangles are square. Just saying.
The narrator changed from the first three books. This one is not quite as good as the first. It’s also odd to hear American characters being voiced by someone with a British accent.
I'm sad about this one as I have enjoyed the rest of the series but they used a new narrator (I think generated and not a real person) and it ruined it. I wouldnt have disliked it so much had they kept it the same as the rest of the books. Super disappointed and might not read the rest now.
It’s giving “self-published” and “in need of a copy editor”. I think I’d be upset if I was paying my own money instead of borrowing these from the library.
In Book #4 Taylor is dealing with the emotions and fallout of breaking the seal on her body as now her powers as a blood moon hybrid are developing and fast. She was given an ultimatum and ended up being locked down in the vaults, for the protection of her friends and the others at the camp. However, Taylor misses her friends and her life above, and being locked down here all by herself is causing her depression and she would rather the Director kill her than keep her down here as a prisoner. Even when her friends come to visit her, Taylor is a bag of rocks, and sad and depression follow her like a black cloud. This book I was in two minds as it was like for goodness’ sake Taylor, snap out of it and grow up. Also, can't you see your friends were scared as well, but at least they are trying to make it up to you? In this book, the director introduces Taylor to an ancient warrior on the hidden sixth island who is ancient years old and is one of the only other people the Director can trust with a blood moon hybrid. Taylor will be pushed to the brink and through hell as she learns to control her powers. Can Taylor rein her powers in and learn control or will she lash out when pushed and prove to the rest of the world that she is as deadly as the other Blood Moon Hybrids that have come before? We also see that Isabel has a secret when her blood burns like acid during the attack. Who is Isabel really and what are her powers? I have to say out of the first couple of books, this one left me with the biggest cliffhanger as I was like OMG. However, due to reading Book #4, I was able to guess the answer when it was revealed. This cliffhanger has made me excited now to continue to read the series and head onto Book #5 Ache.
Following the events of the first book, we continue to explore Taylor's journey of self-discovery as a Blood Moon Hybrid and what that entails. Although she doesn’t learn a great deal, she does gain a bit more insight into why people fear her. This book focuses on Taylor trying to train and control her powers. Like the typical 18-year-old, she gets frustrated when it doesn't happen instantly.
We do have another new character in this book, and that is Taylor's trainer. Though the trainer is a hybrid, she isn't a Blood Moon Hybrid. We see a lot of the same adults trying to "protect" Taylor, but putting her in harm's way. We have the wishy-washy emotions, and we see more of the petty and mean kids at the school. The training of Taylor is the most brutal because Taylor gets the ever-loving snot beaten out of her. We do see more betrayals and bloody fights as well.
I do like that this book sort of breaks the mold of the first two in the series, which is nice, but still pretty consistent as well. While there’s plenty of danger and bloodshed, the overall tone remains consistent with the prior novellas in the series. The biggest complaint here is that the audio version stops using a real person and uses a Synthesized Voice. Though you can't tell too much, it's AI; it lacks emotion or changes in voice for each character like a human would. I guess with Indie books, you cut corners where you can, but losing an audio book audience these days, when audio is soaring in popularity, is not the way to go.
The story continues with Taylor still at the Mistfalls Wilderness Camp. The camp was supposed to be for delinquents, at least that’s what Taylor was told when she was sent there after her stepmother falsely accused her of attacking her, however she quickly discovered that it was very different. As she has developed relationships with other camp residents, she begins to feel like she finally has a place with friends that care about her and that she cares about. The story once again moves fast, after returning from the rescue mission, and Taylor’s power developing faster than she can control. I like the way the author has continued to develop the characters and the new twists constantly happening. Characters - constant development ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Intrigue / twists ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Supernatural ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I read this series I’m on book 5 now but this book absolutely had me in tears don’t get me wrong I love the series but book 4 absolutely tore my heart out with the first 6 chapters. Poor Taylor didn’t ask for the life she has or what she becomes. Her life is torn upside down when she needs to save her friends from death and who she becomes terrifies them but she still goes above and beyond to save them. After she does life gets worse for her and she’s thrown in confinement for her saving them but she doesn’t want to acknowledge that it is the right thing to do. That’s all I can tell you if I go further I will spoil it for you. So grab the books, audiobooks or the whole series and get started you won’t regret it.
Taylor has been locked in the vault since the day her powers exploded and she slaughtered the people trying to kill her and her friends. She saved their lives but they are terrified of the monster she became. Now she waits for the day the Director has her “put down” preferring it to the isolation she endures. The alternative she is offered will be brutal but better than death.
This book is an excellent addition to the series. Morgan Rice is one of my favorite authors. Her imaginative and descriptive writing style bring the book to life in my mind. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
I really liked the first three books, but in this one they used some sort or robot/AI reader for the audiobook and it’s horrible. Think of a person reading a book out loud as fast as they can in one breath, and add in no voice inflection. You have no way to know when they switch characters and instead of just enjoying the book, you have to focus really hard to understand what’s actually going on in the book.
As much as I like the series, I won’t be reading any other of the books, as they are all the robot read version.
Spoiler: This series just keeps getting better and better. Taylor being locked up like a prisoner in order to train was such a good direction for this story line. I love her determination and working with her mentor Raeina, only adds a relationship dynamic idk I needed. Also never saw Susan being a spy… caught me totally off guard!! Honestly just so happy that Taylor’s friends never gave up on her!!
I think isabel is Taylor’s sister, but idk if that’s true!! Look forward to finding out though.
still no editing. although out of the four I've read so far, this one has I guess the least mistakes? still a plethora though. I guess masochists like me will still purchase the book even though it has no editing or proofreading done to it so I guess the author doesn't really have any motivation to produce quality work. it's a shame because the plot and characters are really cool. anyway, I've gotten this far so I'll just continue on with the fifth book which already has a ridiculous amount of errors in the first chapter. good gracious.
I’m usually quite a slow reader but I’m powering through this entire series. I don’t like putting these books down! The plot is so good!!! Really loving the storyline and can’t wait to see where it goes. There are a lot of spelling errors though and I’m getting a bit annoyed with the constant recapping all throughout each new book. I feel the recaps are unnecessary, I don’t think someone is going to start the series at book 4, they’re going to start at book 1 😅
The writing is fine, consistent with the others. The review is for the disappointing fact that the author has sold out to AI. The first few audiobooks books were read by a talented reader, but now it's read by the synthetic voice-Caroline. She is terrible . No expression, can definitely tell it's not human. My favorite part was where she would read out "asterisk asterisk asterisk" each time there was a page break. Please don't take away jobs from humans, the quality isn't comparable!
A bit angry for all the money I've spent on these novels only to have them all end in cliffhangers. The writing and characters are juvenile. The relationship between hero and heroine is superficial. I have a tough time caring about the characters. It feels like a junior high drama. I won't be spending any more on this drivel.
Another interesting continuation of what has been an enjoyable series of books. However, this book seems to have quite a few glaring typo/grammar errors in it which became annoying at times. One example that really grated on me was "...because neither of us don't know". Decent proofreading should have picked this up and this has caused me to mark this book down.
This is another wonderful book in this new vampire series by Morgan Rice. It has a little bit of everything a reader needs mixed in a paranormal world in the wonderful story-telling style of Rice. A very good book.
I really enjoy how short and easy to read this series is. I also have come to love the multiple POVs. I have also noticed how the books will offer a bit of an explanation of who some people are in an effort to bring by the reader up to speed.
So the narrator change really affected my ready experience. Like why go with a British narrator for this part of the book??? I am also not enjoying how the story of unfolding . On the fence about finishing this series .
Thirst by Morgan Rice. Wtf! Was that ending? But how dare they lock her away like an animal? Especially when she continuously saves their lives. How ungrateful. Then for them to put her back exactly where she spent so much time trying to get away from wtf
I can’t make up my mind on my rating. I liked the book, but the narration is awful! I would’ve been pissed if I had paid for it. Thankful that libraries exist and have apps.
Loving this series! But, ugh! Why switch from a real human narrator to AI!?!?! It's awful! & looking ahead, all the rest are the same digital voice - NOT looking forward to that!
