First, I'm giving the book 3 stars because there's a reasonably interesting plot but honestly, that barely makes up for the problems.
Technically, the spelling is better in this book than the others, which is not exactly high praise. The author frequently slips into the passive voice, she makes up words, and once she even moved from present tense to past tense. Does her editor even read her manuscripts?
The author gives the main character arbitrary justifications for actions that are completely new to the reader. For example, Taylor, to justify yet another reckless, poorly thought out action, is moaning to herself about how guilty she feels that she couldn't save her dad and sister so she has to save her friends. What? Did I miss something? She never indicated in words or by her actions that she felt guilt about not saving dad or sis. In fact, she has no memory of what happened to sis & thinks dad is still alive.
Finally, there's Taylor. I had hoped to see her grow a bit by now but she's still the irritating, self centered girl from book one. She's pugnacious, brash, and insensitive and then she cries when others don't like her. Her friends often tell themselves and each other that she's really sensitive and kind. This seems to be the author's way of conveying these qualities as opposed to showing them through actions or even internal reflection by the Taylor. It comes across as very artificial.
I forgot to mention the book covers. What's with the wings? What do they have to do with anything? And for that matter, the title - Adore - has nothing to do with the plot. I suppose packaging makes a book more sellable even when its a mess. This is the end of the line for me with this series.
#3 in the YA paranormal romance series, featuring high-stakes personal transformation, angst, destiny and a collection of individuals that are each unique.
After escaping a half-genie who tried to kill her and now a boyfriend who wants to talk to her after he found out she is a Blood Moon Hybrid, Taylor Knight is still adjusting to her new life at the Wilderness Camp. Taylor and her friends Quinn and Beth have also progressed to the next level of training along with a couple of other friends. One night, the camp is raided and Jesse ends up kidnapped trying to save and divert attention away from Taylor. Of course, she feels responsible so she sets out to save him. Where Taylor is, her friends are close by and despite Taylor's pleas for them not to come and that she can do it herself - they all end up following her. It won't be an easy journey though and across the way, Taylor will learn more about Blood Moon Hybrids which means her parents were Vampire and Werewolf and she was born under the Blood Moon. Blood Moon Hybrids are very rare due to the fact they can be unpredictable and dangerous and can go insane when blinded by rage and emotions. So much so that when it does happen after she unleashes more of her power, her friends look at her like the bloodthirsty killer monster they promised they wouldn't. Along this journey, Taylor will also learn that the reason her powers were contained was that at birth someone placed a magical seal on her ensuring that her full powers don't surface. When she does a test to break this seal, she feels a surge of power. However looks like her moment of rejoicing is short-lived as when she decides to leave the Wilderness Camp to protect her friends - the Director gives her an ultimatum - imprisoned in the Vaults or killed as an enemy and traitor? This series is an easy-to-read YA and is great when you need a quick read as it's not too long of a book - almost like novella size. Morgan Rice's Wish series is great for fans of C.C. Hunter's Shadow Falls Series.
I have to say this third installment in the series was much more interesting than the first two books. The story definitely progressed a lot more. It had a nice pace to it. A lot more of the questions that arose in the previous books were answered. I specifically liked the couple of chapters that were from the point of view of the other characters. We actually got to see their thought processes and what they were feeling. It was a nice addition because so far the descriptions were lacking in that aspect.
I felt that some of the main important scenes in the book that provide major character development were brushed past pretty quickly and I am not sure why. There were specific arcs that were crucial to the story and they started and finished in 2 to 3 pages.
I specifically liked the ending of the book, it was interesting. The books are definitely lacking in certain aspects, but they are easy to follow and a fun read if you were to ignore the specifics and just take in the story in general.
I am interested to see where this story is headed. I will be reading the next installment, Thirst, when it is released this month on July 31st, 2023.
*Side note: I have noticed a couple of spelling/grammatical errors in the 3 books I have read so far. It is not to the point where it is bothering me so much that I would put the book down but they are there. So, if that is the type of thing that bothers you as a reader, I want to give you a heads up.*
Spoiler: THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK SO FAR!! Taylor doing a hell fire ritual to unlock the seal holding her powers at bay was such a twist. The plot of Anderson, isabel, Beth, quill, and Kathleen all going with Taylor to rescue Jessie from Rachel’s crazy goons was the best story line development ever. I loved the characters, and Kathleen revealing that she has far blood and is an outsider as well was the cherry on top. But what broke me was how quickly everyone turned on Taylor after she activated her blood moon hybrid powers to save everyone. Even the director made her out to be an enemy. Just crazy good!!!!!
I was given an ARC of this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the pace, the flow, the plot and I especially like Taylor because she has a big heart, is brave and loyal yet also vulnerable.
As Taylor learns more about her roots, she is determined to investigate the truth but there are dilemmas and blocks that are confusing. There are heroes and villains and a twisty mess of feelings.
Great story and I am looking forward to the next instalment.
This book continues with Taylor and her friends at the “camp.” The story continues with them learning who they are and what powers each has, and trials to master each. This time there is an attack on the camp and someone is kidnapped. In true Taylor fashion, she decides to go after them and be the hero. Friendships and trust are tested.
Taylor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Drama ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Action ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Surprises ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I enjoyed this continuation of Taylor's story and there was further development of the characters and their inter-relationship. Bonds that seem to form in the book are in a state of flux leaving one with a sense of "Whatever is going to happen next?". This aspect is what keeps you reading. The only downside to this is the end of the book leaves things hanging so that you need to buy the next book to see what happens.
Following the events of the first book, we continue to explore Taylor's journey of self-discovery as a Blood Moon Hybrid and what that entails. Although she doesn’t learn a great deal, she does gain a bit more insight into why people fear her. In the previous two books, Taylor was primarily focused on being stalked by the new adults in her life, but this book shifts gears as Taylor and her friends embark on a rescue mission off the islands.
A new character, a student who is immediately advanced to level two—something quite rare—joins their group. Throughout the story, we gain a deeper understanding of some unexpected allies, and we witness Taylor's personal growth as she starts to learn more about herself.
In my opinion, this has been the best installment of the series so far, as it breaks free from the previous patterns and introduces something fresh. While there’s plenty of danger and bloodshed, the overall tone remains consistent with the prior novellas in the series.
The YA Paranormal lover in me sees the potential in this series. I am enjoying where the story is going, plot wise. I also want to know what happens to Taylor and her friends. I thought of all the books so far this one was my favorite. I really could feel Taylor's emotions in this one especially towards the end. The cliffhangers have me glad the series is available on hoopla .
I keep listening to these books because they are short and I am interested enough to keep going. The inner monologue of the FMC is starting to drive me insane but overall this books played out differently than the last couple and I did enjoy the overall adventure! Ps the last park or the book did break my heart a bit
2.5 stars. the dialogue and plot balance out a little bit the fact that this book is written by ai and has zero editing. random details added or left out, sloppy, a lot could be shown through the characters' eyes that we don't get to see, and inappropriate words, missing words, added words, or just plain wrong words or phrases everywhere
Morgan Rice excels most at her vampire stories which drew me to her writing with her first vampire series. This one is just as fabulous with wonderful characters and an intriguing storyline. I enjoyed this book.
I enjoy a fast paced story, so when words are missing, misspelled or make no sense and there are errors in referring to past events (such as saying they happened on the wrong island) it is like tripping over a wrinkle in a carpet. Kind of breaks the momentum. That’s my little rant for today.
Great book but quite a couple spelling mistakes. The only thing I don’t like, is in the beginning of each book it repeats things, as if it’s for people who haven’t read the previous books, which I find a bit annoying & unnecessary.
This part of the story was so hard to read! Friends are important but so much happened in this situation to make it difficult to keep them. But then so is the other stuff too.
adore by Morgan Rice. I felt so sorry for the fmc that she was willing to do anything she could to save them and when she did they all shied away from her like she was the one trying to kill them. I cannot wait to see how this develops in the next book but seriously I say fuck them all.
This is the beginning of a multi-book series. This book draws you in. It made me ask questions and I am always a sucker for a redemption story and a bit of romance. It has an element of mystery while fantasy looms in the background. I look forward to reading this series.
I’m hooked. Love this series. Love/hate characters. But hating them in the book. The bad ones. But they are good bad characters. So easy to read. Always something happening. Mad bc I don’t have them all on my shelf.
I really liked this book I mean the heartbreaking story is just really good and things are starting to fall in line enough that you get a good understanding
The book was very fast paced, which made it an enjoyable quick read. I really liked how there was multiple POV‘s, and the world building. Taylor is a great heroine!
