From internationally renowned medium, spiritual teacher and bestselling author Gordon Smith comes a captivating tale about finding your way through death, grief and loss.
'Nothing that lives can truly die,' said the stag, 'but we must all experience a winter in our lives, otherwise we haven’t truly lived.'
Following the tragic death of his sister, 10-year-old Dill's life changes forever. In an attempt to escape their grief, Dill and his parents move to his grandmother’s remote cottage in the countryside. Isolated from his family, who are struggling to come to terms with their loss, Dill spends his time exploring the wild landscape with his trusty spaniel, Bramble. He soon learns that life in his new home, the Dip-n-Dells, is anything but lonely.
With the help of his grandmother, Dill learns a magical language that allows him to befriend the animals of the Dip-n-Dells and uncover the secrets of the mystical landscape around him. As his friends in nature help him to understand the cycles of life and death, the cloud of sadness surrounding Dill begins to lift. Determined to share this gift with his parents, Dill and his friends set out to bring light back into their lives. In doing so, he finds out that where love is involved, anything is possible....
A beautiful book. I’ve flagged many pages. Very surprisingly, I began the book on Sept. 17, which is the main character’s birthday. His sister’s birthday was April 12, which is my mom’s birthday. (Both are in now in the place beyond the thin space.) I love the way spirit is brought to life through the Dells, with its rules, dangers, mysteries and harmonious moments.
The writing was gentle, perhaps meant for a young adult? Regardless, the concepts and the story were beautiful. I related to many small details and larger lessons. I will recommend this book for those whose hearts need something to hold on to.
This is an inspiring story of how nature teaches us about the cycles of life and death.
I loved the characters, including the animals and how the author skilfully describes their mannerisms. If you love dogs I’m sure you will especially appreciate it.
Nature never ceases to amaze us, and this book is a perfect testament to that. It's a beautiful reminder of the incredible wonders that surround us every day, waiting to be discovered and appreciated.
I’ve listened to the author for years teach mediumship and his oracle cards. This is the first time I heard him write a book not about mediumship. It is a good story about a child learning about the spirit world around us. It's a good story with many good lessons for everyone. The kids who heard it liked it and would like to hear more by this author.
Where do I even start. I had a really difficult loss at Christmas time and this book just helped me so much. I loved the characters and set up so much and it was just a beautiful story. Gordon smith, you did a great job ❤️🩹
I enjoyed the subject matter of the book and how nature is alive and can heal. For me personally I had a problem with how it was written. It seemed to read more like a children’s book but I’m not sure if that was the authors intention.
