About the author

François Dosse is a French historian and philosopher who specializes in intellectual history. After devoting his doctoral thesis (1983) to the Annales School, Dosse turned his research interests to structuralism, the philosopher Paul Ricœur (his biography,Paul Ricœur. Les sens d'une vie (published in 1997), has become the standard authority) and the historian Michel de Certeau. François Dosse is one of the founders of the journal EspacesTemps. In 2007, he published Gilles Deleuze et Félix Guattari, biographie croisée (English trans. Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari: Intersecting Lives [2010]), where he advocated the rehabilitation of Guattari in an intellectual history that had made place only for Deleuze.
François Dosse is currently Professor of Contemporary History at the Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maîtres at Créteil.

I'll insist on the fact that I don't enjoy reading about historiography and the Annales School, but this book was really good. Compared to Peter Burke's The French Historical Revolution: The Annales School, 1929-1989, Dosse goes into detail about Braudel's thesis and ideas of time. If I ever need to be an expert on that, which I can't see happening, I'll refer to this book.

کتاب (در صورتی که ترجمه خوب هم می بود) مناسب سطح اطلاعات من نبود. به نظرم می آید مخاطب کتاب کسی است که حداقل آثار شاخص هر نسل از مکتب آنال را خوانده باشد و در ضمن اطلاعاتی راجع به تاریخ فرانسه در دوره انقلاب کبیر و اتفاقات پس از آن و تاریخ فرانسه در دوره شکل گیری و فعالیت آنال داشته باشد. من هیچ یک از این شرایط را نداشتم.
به همین دلیل قصد هم نداشتم اصلا کتاب را اضافه کنم. چیزی که باعث شد این کار را بکنم ترجمه ی بد آن بود. به نظرم رسید اگر ننویسم که ترجمه کتاب بد است، شاید مسئولیتی حداقلی را انجام نداده باشم.

A good clear account of Braudel and the intellectual (and also institutional) origins of the Annales. The translation could have been better. The last third of the book is an attack on Post-Braudelian generation of Annales writers (epigoni).
