What’s a little secret when the chemistry is off the charts?

Everyone has a dream. Mine is to make perfume, where science and art converge. To fund my new business, I join a paid drug trial that’s for her pleasure, if you know what I mean.

The one variable I didn’t factor into my plan is meeting the perfect guy: hot geeky biochemist, Dr. Bradley Zimmer.

After taking my first dose, I literally run into him. His glasses can't hide the kindness in his eyes as he catches me. It’s like magic between us.

Despite our age gap, every touch between us is electric. I’ve never felt like this. Is it real or is this the trial’s little blue pill for v@ginas?

Except dating Bradley is off-limits as a trial participant, but…

What’s a little secret when the chemistry is off the charts?

Sex, science, scents, and secrets—a formula designed to either ignite passion or combust spectacularly.

The Sex Variable, a steamy rom-com series set at a pharmaceutical company in Seattle, Washington, features forbidden love, women in STEM, age gap, insta-love, a cinnamon roll hero, and secrets & lies tropes. Find out how much a head scientist and nerdy gamer working on the most important drug of his career is willing to risk when he falls for a woman who’s off-limits.

This STEM RomCom did not disappoint. This book was such a fun and sweet read. The flirtatiousness between Bradley and Christina was on full display with their playful banter. Bradley is the hot geeky book boyfriend everyone dreams about. The mystery of how things would play out for the two of them is what kept me reading. Each MC had an amazing group of friends that just wanted to see Bradley and Christina happy. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Thank you to Emi Leon & The Author Agency for the arc in exchange for my honest review

First, to say that it was a surprise to read this book is already a lot, all this about secrets, false identities, the mystery gave me very good vibes and I liked it since I very rarely find all this in a romcom.

I loved Bradley and Christina as characters, him being a complete geek at the age of 40, but also being a famous doctor in a pharmaceutical company and her being a chemist who works making perfumes, here she is in a test for a pill that it will change women's lives and although that is the main reason she is in the test, she needs the money they pay to do it; For reasons they both know each other and they have this undeniable connection that we would all kill to have but he is the Doctor in charge of the test and it is forbidden to date each other, but oh, he doesn't know that she is there so she sets up all these scenes so he doesn't find out, and from here starts what was a fun series of events that had me laughing and dreaming, and also a little worried about how our MMC was going to take the news. Mini spoiler? The drama was a bit of what I didn't like, but I saw it coming.

It was a fun story, I loved all this mystery stuff and I hope to read the next book soon!

🫂 Thanks to Emi Leon & The Author Agency for the arc in exchange for my honest review 📚!!

I really liked this one, it is book two in a series but can be read as a complete standalone and you won't miss out on anything.

Christina is a chemist that wants to launch her own fragrance company. To do this she wants to enter a big competition, one that has launched careers in the industry, for this she need money. That is how she ends up as part of a female sexual enhancement drug trial.

She takes a pill on the first day and pretty much immediately bumps into the most handsome man she has ever seen. Bradley - 8 years older, geeky yet handsome and a body he worked hard for. The meeting impacts them both and when they meet again later that night they are smitten.

However Bradley turns out to be Dr Zimmer a lead in the trial and any relationship is forbidden.

This was a blast to read, STEM based, it had intrigue, blackmail, deception and love.

I laughed so much, it has the aww factor and you so badly wanted these to together. They had an instant strong connection and both characters deserved true love.

Only two things knocked it down for me and that was the repetition about Bradley's previous relationship where he was a third with Jules and Reid. It wasn't really relevant to the story after the first mention, to make he wasn't cut up over it, but it came up alot at the begining and then at the end, for apparently no reason as Christina had no real reaction to it. It just felt like filler and the book didn't need it as it's great.

The second thing as I was literally mentally shouting at Christina to just come clean, I found it hard going at times, but it all made sense to the storyline and was inline with her characters journey so it didn't turn me off as much as it could have.

Overall this is a sweet, sexy, funny and heartfelt story with added intrigue, drama and ethics.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book follows Christina and Bradley who bump into each other on the street and create an instant connection. They’re both scientists where Christina is a chemist/perfumer and Bradley is a scientist at a pharmaceutical company. Christina is participating in a female drug trial and unbeknownst to her, Bradley is the lead scientist on the project!

I loved the beginning of the story! They were so cute and awkward together, which was totally relatable! I thought the premise was really fun, and I was so excited for these two to sneak around🤭 I’m always a sucker for a workplace romance! And their relationship was even more forbidden because their involvement could affect trial results!

At first, I loved their relationship! The chemistry was so palpable watching them sneak around to make sure no one finds out, but there was a ton a miscommunication from Christina, and I felt so bad for Bradley. I don’t want to spoil what exactly happens, but there is a lot of dishonesty that I didn’t enjoy. It was fine at first because I thought it would get resolved, but it ended up becoming a major part of the plot and conflict.

To highlight some positives, my favorite things about this book were Bradley and the scene in the roller rink👀 Bradley was just an adorable nerd, and I loved him so much. As for the roller rink scene, you’ll have to read it to find out, but it was 🤌🏻

Tropes:
✨ Instalove
✨ Age Gap
✨ Office/Workplace
✨ Forbidden Love
✨ Cinnamon Roll Hero
✨ STEM
✨ Mystery/Suspense
✨ Dual POV

TLDR; Cute and fun, but too much miscommunication/dishonesty😭

Self-Serving Research . . .

Christina Jenkins’ new business interest, her dream of making perfumes, needs funding, so she signs up for a drug trial that will provide her the funds she will need. The nature of the new “turn on” drug might have unforeseen consequences – or perhaps it is working perfectly well with the right “partner”. Taking her first pill, she runs into the geeky scientist, Dr. Bradley Zimmer. The age gap makes no difference at all since their chemistry is already sizzling! Will they start a relationship and compromise the test results? Will they try to keep their “little secret” that could invalidate the entire study? Or can they remain “professional” and do the right thing until the trial is over?

I have an issue about professionals who throw their ethics in the garbage when they allow their own desires to become more important than their expensive research. As the one running the tests, Dr. Zimmer should not be interacting with the test subjects… and he knows that. All the time and effort and money spent to bring this drug trial to a successful end-result is worthless with their selfish actions. Yes, I know this is fiction, but it’s a very real possibility in real life and I don’t find it amusing.

Christina is a chemist who wants to make her own perfume so she accepts to take a part to a drug trial which will she gets paid so will will be able to enter to a perfume competition . The day she takes her first pill she bumps into the sexiest geek she ever met in life and can't stop thinking about him . After a very bad date she has she see him again and they spent time together talking and flirting . The next day when she has to be at the pharmaceutical company to sinh up and takt her pills she discover that her Brandley is Dr.Zimmer part of the trial . The right thing is to quite from the test but she want to spent more time with him and she keep telling him lies . What will happen when the truth comes up ?
I loved Brandley and Christina together and their chemistry was amazing . The story made me both laugh and cry . I need more of both of them .

I absolutely loved Hypothesis for Love, so I was very excited to pick up the next in the series.

Bradley is a super hot, gaming scientist. He hasn't had a lot of luck with love...and then he (literally) bumps into Christina. He is instantly attracted to her and when they have the opportunity to have a conversation, they find a connection.

Christina is working on a perfume line in her free time and has signed up for a clinical trial of a new women's enhancement pill. She agrees not to fraternize with any members running the trial...and then she realizes Bradley is the head of the experiment. She really needs the money from the trial to fund her perfume line and she doesn't want to stop seeing Bradley when they've just met, so she fabricates all sorts of stories to explain why he saw her at the lab. The tales become more elaborate as she tries to keep the truth from Bradley.

There's no way this will backfire, right?.

This book too me much longer to read than the first one in the series. Let me explain - it was so well written that Christina's behavior amped up my anxiety and I had to keep taking breaks from the book. The mystery in the book kept me guessing right up until the very end and I'm thrilled to say that there is still a HEA ending. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

My favorite quotes were, "She's stunning, a blond bombshell with curves more intriguing than those in a polypeptide chain" and "Sometimes, I speedrun through video games, but on this playthrough I want to uncover each bit of lore and complete every side quest.

I was so happy to see main characters from the first book have their story loosely continued in this book and look forward to what will come in the next book!

I keep thinking that Zelda is tied to the mysterious Mr. Z though!!!!!

I received this as an arc from The Author Agency and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

This was a great romantic comedy. It was the second book in a series but it can easily be read as a standalone and that was what I did. It was my first book by the author and I will definitely want to read more. The story was well written and had a great pace. It was the type of story that I couldn’t put down and I read it in a few hours. The storyline was interesting and entertaining. Christina and Bradley had an instant connection and a great meet cute. I loved the flow of the romance and generally just really enjoyed the story.

My first by Emi Leon and it was a fantastic read.
This was RomCom, Age Gap, Cinnamon Roll, Instalove and Forbidden Romance Trope.
This definitely was Laugh out loud story. I loved both Christina and Bradley. They were so good together. Their interactions and flirty banter was everything in a relationship. Gave me all the feels, as if I'm there.
When the feelings so strong what's a bit of a white lie, just to see where the relationship is going?
The story plot was excellent, the characters and all their friends were lovable too.
There was drama, secrets, lies, lust, steam, feelings, friends, heartbreak and Love.
Come and enjoy a steamy RomCom.

Emi Leon’s “The Sex Variable” is Book 2 of the Romancing The Geek Series. Christina (FMC) needs financial support with her perfume, so she joins a drüg trial to help fund it. The drüg trial, though, involves enhancing s€xüal desires. Coincidently, she runs into Bradley right after taking it. Bradley (MMC) is a brilliant biochemist that is awkward and geeky. Believing he will be alone forever until he runs into Christina. They both don’t realize that they have more in common than they realize, which might impact the study’s results and their relationship.

“The Sex Variable” is such a fun and sweet book. Bradley’s geekiness is so endearing, combined with his hotness. He makes the perfect book boyfriend readers will dream about.

The Sex Variable was fantastic, and I absolutely loved Bradley and Christina’s story! It was funny, sexy, and entertaining, with some surprise plot twists I didn’t see coming. I loved the conclusion and can’t wait to see what Emi Leon has in store for the next standalone in the Romancing the Geek series.

I was not sure if I was going to actually get into this book, but I did. It took me a little bit to get into, but I am glad I gave it a chance. The banter between the two main characters is what I loved the most. Their attraction and flirtatious attitudes towards one another was cute. They each have a group of friends who just want the best for them. This reminded me of Love Hypothesis in a way. It was a meet cute feel good story. I need to go back and read the first one now.

Lost interest by chapter 17. I know i know the authors need to have secrecy to create drama so that the book can happen but i just couldn't connect to the MCs. The FMC kept lying, the side character James was downright douche and with his second appearance irritated me, MMC was a hormonal guy in heat. I couldn't find anything to laugh bout. This is what u see in an average "rom-com" movies. Sorry dear author, i couldn't love the book.

A great read, the second book in this series. The story of Bradley and Christina. From the moment they meet there is a spark, but can it lead anywhere when she finds out she should keep away from him? I liked how it was told from both points of view and can't wait for the next book in this series.

Overall the story was a good story. It was just a bit drawn out, for my taste. I liked the characters, the story line, even a few surprises near the end. There was a bit too much repeated dialogue, in the beginning especially. Once you push past that, it is a great story.

This is my first Emi Leon book and definitely won’t be my last! I went into it thinking it would have "Love Hypothesis" vibes from the description + it didn't disappoint! I loved the relationship between the two main characters and the STEM aspect of the story line! It took me a minute to get into it, but I ended up fully enjoying it!

Christine never expected that the hot nerdy scientist she literally fell for outside her building and felt an instant attraction to would be the lead scientist on the paid drug trial she needs to fund her new perfume business. She can't give up on this new chance at love, but she really needs the money. Noone will find out right? But as the lies pile up and she learns how important honesty is to this sweet brilliant man she can't risk telling the truth and losing her chance at forever.
I loved The Love Hypothesis and this was a great follow up to reconnect with my favorite characters. I loved Bradley in the first book so I'm glad I got a chance to read his HEA. Obviously, secrets and lies are found out in the end and I could see their relationship train wreck coming, but I love the way they worked through it.

📖 Book Review 📖
The Sex Variable by @ Emi Leon

This STEM RomCom book was such a pleasant wholesome surprise which I throughly enjoyed. I sometimes find romcoms boring as they all read the same but The Sex Variable is a rare find. I loved reading about the mystery, false identities and all the lies Christina tells.

I love seeing Nerdy guys being represented and this book does an amazing job. It’s such a cute book with the addition of a little spice and humour.

Definitely Recommend

Bradley & Christina’s story (book 2) was by far the superior of the two. The plot, their relationship, the characters in general were a lot more enjoyable and easier to read than the first book. That’s not to say I didn’t like it because I did but The Sex Variable has made me excited for the third book in the series 🫶🏼💛

The premise of this sounded realllyy good...unfortunately the execution was not...

While I didn't dislike the book, I have to be honest and say I struggled to connect with the characters and the plot

You follow FMC, Christina, who is involved in a trial drug aimed at women and their 0rgasms and she ends up having an instant connection with the head scientist of the trial, Bradley, without realising who he was.

Then she finds out and instead of creating a heated forbidden love plot or a genuine, interesting way for her to hide the truth for him, it felt really childish and unrealistic.
Like she hides behind plant pots and he apparently doesn't know about a certain department in the company he's a lead scientist in.
And some of the excuses she made...only a child would have ever believed them...yet Bradley for some reason did...

I know it's a book but neither character felt like a real person. They spoke like they were teenagers instead of grown adults (40 and 30 I think) and Christina was honestly a mess. And not in a good way.

There was no grovelling either from Christina and details that should've been given earlier in the book were thrown at you as 'excuses' instead of grovelling and Bradley 'forgave' her despite what he said...so...yeah...

The spice was okay, but then the author used 'Vajayjay' and I wanted to vomit!!
It was so gross, like listening to a teenager instead of an adult

The ending was the only thing that saved this book because that was when it got interesting!

Thank you The Author Agency for this ARC but this book really wasn't for me...

This was a cute Romcom set in a pharmaceutical company. I loved the banter between the two main characters, which was often self-aware cheesiness. I enjoyed the writing style and can't wait to go back and read the other books in this series. It had spice, comedy, mystery, and a lovely group of friends.

I am not usually a fan of miscommunication, and had plenty of second hand embarrassment while watching Christina spiral, but the story was strong enough that I could put it out of my mind most of the time. Bradley was boyfriend goals and was the highlight of the book.

It was Bristina.

Tropes: the premise is miscommunication/a series of lies, instant attraction, office workplace, forbidden love
