The Master of the ″Votre Bonheur" has a secret. Marie, a penniless, naive young woman, must play the passionate courtesan to discover the shocking truth.
When Marie is tossed out of her home, she takes a position at the "Votre Bonheur," an upscale bordello in Nice. There she meets Edward Leroye, the handsome, mysterious master of the house, and sparks fly. He awakens a desire and a dislike the naive young woman has never before experienced. When Sarah tells her that the Master holds a secret, Marie decides to discover the truth. Even if it means stripping away her innocence.
Just as you find out the secret, which was somewhat odd and sad, the book ends. It would have been nice to skip some of the buildup and see how Marie and Leroye would overcome the challenges of his "circumstances".
Bordello Secrets by Heather Whittington * I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*
Marie’s father is dead and her mom has put her out on the streets. She has no one to help her so she journeys to Nice to join the women of Votre Bonheur. She may be young and naïve but she is determined to do what it takes to stay at the bordello.
Master Leroye takes care of his ladies but he expects them to earn their keep to stay at Votre Bonheur. He spends time with each of the ladies but they never seem to remember their nights with him. The Master has a secret that he has gone to great lengths to hide, at least until Marie shows up.
Marie is a young, impressionable girl when she arrives. It doesn’t take long for that to change and she is even more determined to make it work. She doesn’t know what to make of the Master when she meets him. He scares her but at the same time, she desires him. She agrees to dine with him in hopes of finding out what his secret is.
I loved the scene with Marie and Edward when he is telling her his story. It helped the reader to understand him and why he has done the things he did. Marie may have been naïve but she has a sharp mind and isn’t afraid to say what she thinks. In the end, I think she has found a new home with the Master at Votre Bonheur.
This story was short but it was short on details. The author was able to give us a glimpse into a bordello in the 1900’s, complete with details about how it looked down to what was expected from the girls. It was a fun story that I enjoyed but would have loved to read more. I give Bordello Secrets 3 Flaming Hearts.
Whoa! Something fishy is definitely going on at the Bordello and I was very intrigued to know exactly what it was!
The elusive Master of the bordello is hiding something...something big. The ladies of the night, his ladies, never dare to question why they never remember the nights they spend in his company and his bed. When the new girl, Marie, is told of the mysterious ways of the Master, she is determined to get to the bottom of the big mystery.
For a quick, 32 page read, there sure was a lot going on, but it didn't feel at all rushed. I would have enjoyed reading a bit more about Marie and Master after the big secret is revealed, but the story felt complete as it was.

I definitely cannot 'shelve' this one as a 'romance' by any definition I subscribe to. There was no romance involved, and very little in the way of 'passion'. Granted, there is some lust and implied sexual activity, but the story is much too short to know if anything even romantic takes place. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't looking for erotica. Even a flicker of romance would have been nice.
The situations made sense based on the circumstances; I have to give the author credit there. However, the reader is not given enough time to relate to the characters before the story abruptly ends. This story would have benefited greatly from an epilogue.
I enjoyed this short story. As I was really getting into it, it came to an abrupt end. I wanted to know more about The Master and what would happen between him and Marie after he shared his secret with her. I usually do not read short stories as I thought they would be a waste of time. I have currently read three and am happy I did.
Very clever girl to find out the secrets of the owner and master of the bordello! Very interesting story line of a young girl pushed out of her home and left to fend for herself and having no skills, was left with one choice, so she took it. It turned out well in the end.
