Progress in technology has resulted in the development of new pacing modes, such as rate variable pulse generators that adjust their basic rate according to physiological needs. These new concepts are being used more widely, offering significant benefits to a large number of suitable patients, including patients who previously could not benefit from pacing. This book provides an overview of the basics of advanced pacing. The editors have assumed that the reader has a knowledge of basic pacing as described in, The Foundations of Cardiac Pacing, Part I: An Illustrated Practical Guide to Basic Pacing by R Sutton and I Bourgeois.
