Blade Runner: Origin Trilogie

Sowohl die originale Story von Philip K. Dick Träumen Androiden von elektrischen Schafen als auch der Filmklassiker Blade Runner aus dem Jahr 1982 sind bahnbrechende Werke der modernen Science-Fiction. Die Ästhetik beider Werke, in dem sich hartgesottener Noir mit modernstem Futurismus nahtlos vermischt, sollte in den folgenden Jahrzehnten unzählige Werke inspirieren und dennoch gab es erst 35 Jahre später eine Fortsetzung, denn die Darstellung der Welt, in der Blade Runner spielt, blieb bisher weitgehend geheimnisvoll, unerforscht und nur auf die riesige Metropole Los Angeles beschränkt.
Blade Runner: Origins hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, diesen Schauplatz zu erweitern, und das ist bemerkenswerter Weise gelungen. Das Autorenteam hat offensichtlich seine Hausaufgaben in Bezug auf das Ausgangsmaterial gemacht und einige beeindruckende Konzepte entwickelt, die der Welt Leben einhauchen.
Im Jahre 2009 angesiedelt erzählt Origins die Geschichte von Cal Moreaux, dem Mann, der zum ersten Blade Runner wird. Es ist eine Geschichte voller Geheimnisse, Action, gesellschaftliche Probleme und Verrat, die eine Reihe existenzieller Themen erforscht.
Alles beginnt mit einem Todesfall einer Wissenschaftlerin, die einen neuen Replikanten entworfen hat, der nach ihrem Tod unerkannt entkommen konnte. Von da an entwickelt sich die Geschichte schnell zum Noir-Krimi, denn eben jener Replikant ruft zur Revolution gegen ihre Schöpfer, den Menschen, auf. Für den Konzern Tyrell, der diese Roboter herstellt, wird das schnell zur existenziellen Gefahr.
Der Schreibstil ist erstklassig, die Dialoge sind gut ausgearbeitet, aber es ist das Artwork, das dem Buch wirklich die Show stiehlt.
Für Fans des Originalfilms, die mehr über die Welt wissen wollen, oder auch nur für Liebhaber von hartgesottener Science-Fiction mit einer großen Portion Action und Intrigen ist Blade Runner: Origins genau das Richtige, um diese Sehnsucht zu stillen. Die Charaktere sind interessant und vielfältig, es gibt Helden mit Ecken und Kanten und miese Typen, bei denen man es kaum erwarten kann, dass sie ihr Fett wegkriegen.

This is a cool deep dive into how the whole Blade Runner world got started. It’s set way before Deckard, following Cal Moreaux, a grumpy ex-military guy turned investigator, who gets pulled into a nasty mess involving Replicants, shady corporations, and plenty of secrets no one wants uncovered.
The story starts out kind of slow but builds into something pretty solid. There’s murder, mystery, and a lot of that gritty, rain-soaked cyberpunk atmosphere you’d expect. The art looks great: dark, stylish, and totally fits the vibe.
Across all three volumes, you see how the whole Replicant program really took off, and the moral questions start stacking up. It’s less about big action and more about digging into what makes this world so messed up.
If you're into Blade Runner and want to see how it all began, this is a solid pickup. Not mind-blowing, but definitely worth your time.
