More so than most devotionals I’ve read and reviewed, this one has the reader reading a lot of Scriptures over the time—and they aren’t written out, you need to have your Bible right there with you. Another thing is that it’s only a chapter a day (for four days and then a reread of them on the fifth day), which feels much more manageable in the daily, busy lives we live. I really liked those aspects of this devotional.
Whenever I review a devotional book for BFCG, I always read it in one sitting and will later choose to see if I’ll go back to it in a couple months to read in the proper way. With this one, I definitely plan to do that because I’d like to savor and learn from this one more.
I will admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of all the parts that encouraged to put yourself in a Biblical person’s shoes or imagine how they felt at a particular time, but elsewise, I really enjoyed this devotional. I would suggest it for 16+, but it could definitely be read by those in high school and those older as well.
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Multnomah) for this honest review.
This devotional Bible study guide was the nugget of encouragement my soul so desperately needed during this season. The sections are short and yet full of grounding truths of God’s character. Katie’s style is incredibly conversational & much like one friend to another over coffee. Each reading was a nudge to lift my eyes upwards to Jesus and take comfort in His unfailing love & faithfulness. 💛
*Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Katie Davis Majors has created a unique year long devotional study of who God is and all He has promised to be. Each day you will learn something new and be encouraged as you not only read the Bible, but compare passages that you may have thought have nothing in common. I love that this book is only 5 days per week. It gives ample time for digging further into the week’s lessons or catching up if needed. Although there is no reason to feel behind, since each day and week is undated, allowing the reader to start whenever is convenient. If you are looking for something different for your devotional time, I highly recommend trying Our Faithful God. *I received a complimentary copy of this e-book from NetGalley and WaterBrook Multnomah. “Our Faithful God Devotional” is a journey through the attributes of God, perfect for those seeking to learn and for those who want to see a reminder of the nature of God. This devotional explores who God is and how he constantly demonstrates His great love for us throughout the entire Bible, from the beginning of the Old Testament through the entirety of the New Testament and continually in the present time. I loved how this devotional was hands on - not only providing insight from the author, but primarily walking the reader through their own study of God directly from the Bible.
Why might this devotional be for you? The author answers this within the first couple of pages - “Because He [God] hears the prayers of our weary hearts. Because He longs to be near His people, to remind us of His love for us.”
Thank you Katie Davis Majors, Multnomah Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this arc.
I've been inspired by Katie Davis Majors, founder of Amazima Ministries, for years and have happily read each book she's put out. Her books have always inspired and encouraged me, and this one is no exception! "Our Faithful God Devotional: 52 Weeks of Leaning on His Unchanging Character" is a yearlong Bible study on God and his various character traits. Each week features an aspect of God's character, such as His forgiveness, generosity, triumph over evil, restoration, and mercy. Majors includes chapters of Scripture to read that focuses on God's character, along with personal questions to help you dive deep into Scripture.
With this devotional coming out in November, this would be an excellent Christmas gift for a fellow believer. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I found this devotional insightful and very interesting. The author has based her devotions on the M’Cheyne bible study method. D3spite being a Christian for over 40 years, this is the first time I have come across this method. The result is 52 weekly devotions that that in take in the attributes of God. Monday to Thursday you read on chapter of a set scripture, There are questions and journal prompt for each of the days. On Friday you reread all four chapters. For the weekend there is the authors insights and reflections.
This is an exceptional devotional book. I look forward to incorporating the M’Cheyne into my quiet time. I can whole heartedly recommend the book, grab your notebook, bible and pen, then dig in.
I’ve followed Katie’s books since her very first book came out and these are always a breath of fresh air to my soul.
In Our Great God, Katie walks us through a scripture reading plan that provides an overview of the Bible in 52 weeks. You’ll get short daily thoughts with a longer reading at the end of each week. This is the perfect book to get into God’s Word and start to learn a little more about the overarching view of Scripture. You’ll focus on who God is and what He has done which is always a good place to be.
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ *All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I am picky about devotionals because so many don’t have enough biblical depth and consist of authors “speaking for” God. This one gets my stamp of approval because the Bible reading is a chapter each day, and the commentary at the end of the week ties each scripture reading together. I would have appreciated more historical and theological insight in the daily writings, but I knew I wouldn’t be getting that from this author, and that is okay, because her response is genuine and biblical regardless, which I appreciate since some devotionals by theologians feel very cold and impersonal. Always a fan of Katie Davis Majors!
What a wonderful devotional book! I have followed and admired Katie’s work for many years now. She continues to inspire others to do big things for God. Now, through this devotional you can experience that inspiration daily through thought provoking and spirit stirring devotional. I love that this devotional has recommended chapter readings for each day and then gives some insight and encouragement for readers. I will be gifting this to several of my friends and I encourage you to grab your own copy today!
Accessible, insightful, and real. Our Faithful God is full of love for God and a heart for the reader. The devotional is full of grace as it leads the reader through reading roughly a chapter of the Bible each day for five days and then offers two grace days. The devotionals themselves are meaningful and relatable and explore many sides of who God is in the Bible and in our lives. The applications are also varied and on point. A great devotional for any season, but especially for busy/intense seasons when you want to cling to who God is.
I really love this devotional! The daily readings are short, but each have a Bible portion to read as well. Friday's reading is a little bit longer, as it has a recap of the week. It's simple yet challenging. I can relate to much of what the author says, especially the parts about trusting God. I definitely recommend this one!! Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I love Katie, she has shaped so much of who i am, but honestly this was hard to get through, I think the rhythm just didn’t quite work for me, and I found myself slipping into the legalism of a devo in a way that was hard to combat. Lots of truth, just wasn’t my favorite tool to abide with this year.
I enjoyed having a different theme or characteristic of God for each week of the year, it focused my prayers.
On the other hand, having only five days of reading notes for a seven day week has made my last year of Bible readings feel disjointed and not overly engaging at times. For some people having two extra days can be helpful, but personally it didn't work for me.
Katie has a special place in my heart & I love her voice in this devotional. The structure of the plan (reading from a different book of the Bible each day of the week) wasn’t my favorite though
Our Faithful God is a devotional that utilizes the M'Cheyne Reading plan for reading the Bible that I hadn't known about prior to reading this devotional. The Monday through Thursday devotions start with chapters in order from Genesis, Matthew, Ezra and Acts. If you are feeling that you need a change up in your quiet time, this will fit right in. The Friday devotions are a recap for the week. Friday devotions were longer than I was accustomed to in meshing with my quite time so I read these later in the day. This was my first read from Katie Davis Majors and found this devotional informative and enjoyable.
I received an advanced reader copy from Netgalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
