A clumsy green witch ensnares her hot neighbor to unfortunate results; a romance between an angel and a demon unfolds amid a dystopian afterlife; two vampire/human relationships form in a town haunted by prejudice. In this collection of short stories, JodiMarie Meyer brings you three tales—an almost-romance, the end of a romance, and the beginning of another romance—the first, a dark comedy; the second, a contemplation on the nature of perfectionism; and the third, a portrait of kindness in a world of hate.
JodiMarie Meyer enjoys toeing the line between the mundane and the magical and exploring the dichotomies of good and evil; she primarily writes love stories, but not always. Definitely someone who got in trouble for daydreaming in class. Definitely someone who scribbles frantic story notes while stirring pasta. She makes her home in the Maryland countryside with her husband and their rabbits Mango and Ollie. Her dog Melanie watches over them from that big backyard in the sky.
She is the author of one short story collection, magic/madness, and one novel, Luc & Lila. Currently, she is writing the second novel in The Chasm Trilogy, Desire & Deceit (2026).
A magical, beautiful, immersive short story collection
I am blown away. I don't know how there aren't more reviews on those book! It was stunning! Each of the three stories captivated me, and I was so sad that they couldn't continue... But they also perfectly captured the themes and journeys the author intended.
To be able to create magic-infused worlds so quickly and characters to latch onto is a talent. There was humor, beautiful writing, and the perfect amount of intrigue.
This author's debut novel is in the works and I will jump on reading it right when it is available - I will read anything she writes!!
Add this to your TBR! It is a quick read but will stay with you
I loved these short stories! They're all very charming, but in unique ways from one another. They covered a spectrum of tones, from funny to melancholy, and took very fun spins on traditional fantasy premises. The characters were all interesting and had depth despite the brevity of their stories. It made for easy reading, and I binged the whole book at once. I only wish there was more! Looking forward to future works from this author.
Magic/Madness is a small collection of cleverly written romantic fantasy short stories. All three kept me intrigued and wondering until the very end and the first one, And Mostly Murder, had me constantly laughing out loud. I actually had a moment when I was thinking how jealous I was of this witty writer’s wicked sense of humor. A great, quick read!
This is a delightful short story collection. While my favourite story was the first one, the tale of a witch who accidentally does some disastrous things with her aunts plants, the other two were very enjoyable and will stick with me for a while. Meyer is a very talented writer.
