A well-known police acquaintance asks Jason Dark to discreetly look into the case of a missing Chief Constable, which is out of Scotland Yard’s jurisdiction. When Dark and Siu Lin arrive in Swanage, however, they find that the quaint English seaside village hides more than its share of horrible secrets. “Ghosts Templar” is filled with ruined castles, ghostly hoof beats in the night, and a series of macabre murders, which swirl amidst rumors that undead knights have awakened to exact a bloody revenge. Investigate if you dare.
This is the third volume in a series of supernatural mysteries where Jason Dark, a fearless and resourceful ghost hunter in Victorian Britain, faces off against creatures from other dimensions and the forces of evil that feed on our fears.
This series is filled with enough mystery, drama and suspenseful action to transport you to the sinister, fog-shrouded streets of gaslit London. Your encounter with the extraordinary awaits!
Based in Southern California, Guido Henkel has been a computer game designer and interactive fiction writer for over 25 years before he decided to try his hand at traditional novelized fiction.
Among the many award-winning games he's worked on as the "Realms of Arkania" series which was the official adaptation of the highly successful German pen&paper role-playing game series "Das Schwarze Auge." However, he has also worked on titles such as "Fallout 2" and "Planescape: Torment," a game based in one of the more extreme and mature AD&D universes.
Guido Henkel is the creator of the gothic horror dime novel series "Jason Dark: Ghost Hunter," which he not only writes but also publishes.
Fast-paced and action-packed, I enjoyed Ghosts Templar (the third volume in the series) more than Demon’s Night (first). Dark’s character is far more developed in this volume. By the end of the story, I had a deeper understanding of Jason Dark, not just the ghost hunter but also the man.
As with Demon’s Night, the writing is evocative but is more confident and assured. I look forward to reading the next volume.
This is the third volume in the Jason Dark series and it follows the formula of the previous books. Dark is called in to investigate some supernatural weirdness and then solves everything in around 60 pages. Unfortunately, this is starting to get old. I alluded to it in my review of the second volume, but it's even more blatant here. There's no danger or threat to the main character. Jason Dark is really good at what he does. He's so good that there's not even the faintest possibility that he'll get hurt or killed. He arrives on the scene and figures everything out within a day and then he's done. While I understand the need for urgency as the book is meant to be a fast read, it makes for a boring story as there is little to no conflict.

Love the idea of Templar ghosts. Such a great quick read. Can't wait to dive into the next one!!! Can't stop reading this series. Love the characters also. Never want them to stop.
If you have read any of my other reviews of Guido Henkel’s Jason Dark novellas, you know that I love his work. This novella may be one of his best, and between you and me that’s saying something.
I was feeling all nostalgic watching B horror movies yesterday. It was a marathon called “half price” with half of the movies starring Vincent Price. After an orgy of pulp horror fiction, where can a man go to have his appetite for zombie templars sated?
You, of course, pull up an ebook ( or Fangoria magazine ) of Jason Dark and revel in suspense, adventure, and horror. In the “Ghosts Templar,” I couldn’t help but feel that Henkel was influenced by the “Blind Dead” movies of the 70′s. I loved the medieval Revenants seeking revenge among the living.
All in all, another top-notch effort by Guido Henkel. Pulp horror doesn’t get any better than this … 5 stars!

It takes a skilled writer to mix up some of my favorite elements and serve up a short novella that is worth every penny spent on it. Luckily, Guido Henkel is up to the task. I've never read a Jason Dark story before, and was more attracted to the image on the cover that conjures up the Blind Dead than anything else. And it paid off. Jason Dark and his kung fu companion investigate what appears to be the second Blind Dead film (Return of the Evil Dead, which is available here: The Blind Dead Collection (Tombs of the Blind Dead/The Ghost Galleon/Return of the Evil Dead/Night of the Seagulls/Amando De Ossorio). But the writing is so fast paced and the characters so well drawn in a short time that it is a worthy addition to the Ossorio legacy! I can absolutely appreciate, and admire, Henkel's love of these characters, as well as the clever way he creates his own.
And if you would have told me I'd read a scene where an Undead Templar would be treated like a Kyonshi I'd have laughed at you, but it happens and it is awesome. If Amando de Ossorio had seen Mr. Vampire I think he would have really enjoyed this.
I'm in for Jason Dark, if you like your stories to feature occult detectives and monstrous icons, this is for you!
This is, by far, my favorite novella in the series so far! While I really enjoyed Demon’s Night and Theater of Vampires, Ghost’s templar swept me off my feet! It’s completely unique and original, and I absolutely love the gothic feel, the sense of olden days, and the mystical allusions of life and death. This is a superb story, bringing back our two amazing, kick butt character, Jason Dark and Siu Lin as they embark on a mission given to them by none other than Constable Lestrade himself, a character right out of Sherlock Holmes!!!
This novella is very well written and captivating. I love both the imagination Guido possesses and his master storytelling abilities! I am really enjoying the series, especially as each novella has been, so far, a standalone piece that and can be read at your leisure, though most will be read in one sitting as they’re short enough but just long enough to produce a feeling of a job well done when finished. Great story...
This is another short story from Guido Henkel's Jason Dark - Ghost Hunter series. Guido Henkel has written another superb detective novel with a twist of the supernatural.
Dark and Siu Lin have been called in to investigate the disappearance of a Chief Constable in the town of Swanage. What they find there is a town being terrorised by a curse.
Jason Dark is an intriguing character, and his skill in dealing with the intricacies of the supernatural world is a joy to read about. Siu Lin is a wonderful character who looks like a butterfly, but stings like a bee! She has a will of iron, and is a suitable companion for Jason Dark as he investigates cases. I thoroughly enjoyed this short story and highly recommend this series if you love a gripping tale that sweeps you away into the world of the supernatural/horror. I did find this tale not as dark as the previous one, but this has not dissuaded me from reading more of Mr. Henkel's books. In fact, the opposite is true; his writing is fast paced and kept me turning the pages. I'm now looking forward to reading more of his books in the future.
Ghosts Templar (Jason Dark: Ghost Hunter) is volume 3 of Guido Henkel’s series of 60-page novellas about the 19th century detective (Jason Dark) and his Asian assistant (Siu Linn) who battle all sorts of mysterious supernatural creatures and circumstances. In this one, Jason Dark and Siu Linn try to save the residents of a small town near London from the Templar Knights, who have risen from their graves to reap vengeance upon the families of those who betrayed them 500 years ago. Like the previous two installments in this supernatural series, this one is another very creative, fun, and quick read.
Of the Dark series, this is my favorite. There is actually more of a plot line than just find the baddie, and get rid of the baddie. There is actually a little bit of in depth historical investigation. While trying to deal with the ghosts of some Templars that are killing village people, Dark must investigate a curse and why the Templars are taking vengeance on the town. This one features good writing and some awesome location discription.
