About the author

Stephen Edwin King was born the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. After his father left them when Stephen was two, he and his older brother, David, were raised by his mother. Parts of his childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. When Stephen was eleven, his mother brought her children back to Durham, Maine, for good. Her parents, Guy and Nellie Pillsbury, had become incapacitated with old age, and Ruth King was persuaded by her sisters to take over the physical care of them. Other family members provided a small house in Durham and financial support. After Stephen's grandparents passed away, Mrs. King found work in the kitchens of Pineland, a nearby residential facility for the mentally challenged.

Stephen attended the grammar school in Durham and Lisbon Falls High School, graduating in 1966. From his sophomore year at the University of Maine at Orono, he wrote a weekly column for the school newspaper, THE MAINE CAMPUS. He was also active in student politics, serving as a member of the Student Senate. He came to support the anti-war movement on the Orono campus, arriving at his stance from a conservative view that the war in Vietnam was unconstitutional. He graduated in 1970, with a B.A. in English and qualified to teach on the high school level. A draft board examination immediately post-graduation found him 4-F on grounds of high blood pressure, limited vision, flat feet, and punctured eardrums.

He met Tabitha Spruce in the stacks of the Fogler Library at the University, where they both worked as students; they married in January of 1971. As Stephen was unable to find placement as a teacher immediately, the Kings lived on his earnings as a laborer at an industrial laundry, and her student loan and savings, with an occasional boost from a short story sale to men's magazines.

Stephen made his first professional short story sale ("The Glass Floor") to Startling Mystery Stories in 1967. Throughout the early years of his marriage, he continued to sell stories to men's magazines. Many were gathered into the Night Shift collection or appeared in other anthologies.

In the fall of 1971, Stephen began teaching English at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and to work on novels.

Boff. Le concept est correct, mais je pensais que ça prendrait une tournure avec plus de hype mais que de déception.

Bon pour les ados c’est pas très hardcore comme histoire d’horreur, très soft.

Nécro – Stephen King – 128 pages – Albin Michel (Merci à @krisk pour le conseil !)
Le journalisme c’est l’inverse de la publicité ?! Notre héros aux convictions bien ancrées va connaître des déboires professionnels et devoir se retrouver un job (son caractère de cochon ne facilite pas les choses ! ) Il finit par trouver un Truc, mais c’est pas Facile. Cependant le malheur des uns faisant le bonheur des autres, notre héros va pouvoir couvrir le Scoop de la big boss, Jeroma, étouffée dans son vomi… Mike réalise la rubrique Nécro du Journal avec sa fidèle Kates, mais tout cela prend une tournure étrange. Je trouve que c’est une belle petite et courte nouvelle, sans prétention (du moins je la vois comme ça…) .

When I picked up this book, I wasn’t scared of finding a very similar story to the famous « Death Note ».

When I read it, I was gladly surprised.


The main character is nothing of a monster.

He chooses to run away from the monstrosity that is growing inside him. Because the reality of what he has done keeps striking him.


Yes, he has killed. Perhaps he enjoyed it. But is he proud of himself ? No.


I’d say, what this story misses is message to us, readers. Because, being put away from the scenario, nothing can touch us.

C'est ok
Le livre ne casse pas 3 pattes à un canard, mais il est sympa
L'idée de base est très intéressante
L'exécution est globalement bonne
La fin se justifie correctement (genre les quelques pages avant la fin sont une bonne raison de terminer l'histoire (je sais pas si c'est clair, j'espère que si)
Si vous avez 1 heure à tuer, pourquoi pas lire cette nouvelle

J'aime bien le fait que ce soit une nouvelle, je sais pas si le scénario aurait pu s'étendre sur 400 pages

Une nouvelle de Stephen King qui ne dépasse pas vraiment le premier degré. Le journaliste ne découvre son talent caché que tardivement et ne l'utilise que sur demande. Tous les personnages du récit sont des losers dans leur genre et il n'y a pas de grande chute surprenante. Le tout est assez plat et sans réel intérêt. Vous pouvez passé cette nouvelle sans remords.

Se trata de la reedición de un cuento presente en la colección "El Bazar de los Malos Sueños". No soy aficionado a estas reediciones comerciales, pero he disfrutado releerlo. Es efectivo en estilo y forma. Es un cuento inmersivo, contado directamente por el personaje principal, va directo al grano (el formato obliga).

J'ai vraiment peiné durant ma lecture car je n'ai pas du tout accroché. Aimant Death Note, je me suis convaincue de poursuivre à la recherche du twist qui relèverait le tout. Malheureusement, ce dernier était trop léger pour avoir un véritable Impact...

Not my favourite King.
The concept could have been great and it can start a philosophical debate : "Would you kill (bad) people if you had the power?"

But there are many hardcore themes.

Étant une grande fan du manga Death Note, j'ai eu de la peine à ne pas chercher un peu de Light Yagami dans le protagoniste. Cela dit l'idée est sympa, bien écrite mais trop courte et si vite coupée dans son élan, j'en aurais voulu plus.

Livre long au démarrage dans lequel je n’ai pas été assez servie de ce que je venais rechercher (ici des morts évidemment). Mais l’histoire à la Light Yagami était cool.
