2.6/5

I mainly skimmed through this book. This book seemed to flit from one concept to another quite fast. I also did not like the labelling of certain gunas like tamas as bad like many other ayurvedic books which is not a very balanced view point.

I'm doing a little study of Ayurveda on my own and one of my yoga class mates loaned this from her own collection.

This is a broad book, touching on lots of facets of Ayurveda as the title implies. I've seen worse and I've seen better books. The forward is written by someone at Kripalu School of Ayurveda so if you, or someone you know, is a follower of that school, this book may be helpful.

I liked their information on cleanses, herbs and they include recipes. It also does a good job on personal dosha, seasons and times of life.

I started reading this book in March 2014 and then returned to it for some re-reading. It does a good job for beginners investigating this school of thought. So, if that sounds good to you, look for this book.

I have been reading about ayurveda a bit online and in The Yoga Body Diet. I was interested in learning more detailed information about the practice, but this book didn't provide it. Dosha quizzes are a dime a dozen online, but I found it awfully strange that this book didn't provide any in-depth manner of determining your dosha. Perhaps I'm wrong and I just somehow missed it on the Kindle? Without knowing your constitution, you cannot implement the practices of ayurveda. I didn't feel like I learned anything new in this book, and I really didn't know much to begin with.

I started mindfulness meditation on 2014, doing Feng Shui on 2015, get to know Hawaiian Huna by end of 2015, interested in chakra on May 2016, and found that they are all connected, with Ayurveda.

I took the diet suggestion and my skin got better in a night.

I didn't read all the dosha but the pitta, though. Confused a bit that if I got a bit of vata and a bit of pitta, how to deal with the contradicting requirement..

This is a so-so book.

So confusing! If you're about even in two of the doshas, how can you obey both sets of rules? They have very little overlap. Still thinking this through, as I didn't get an answer in the book. Also, just a weird note, there is plenty of advice for when you are constipated, but none for when you have diarrhea. Update: doctors have the same bias, so no surprise there.

I read this book to prepare for a workshop. It was helpful in learning the basics of Ayurveda vocabulary & definitions.
