The EPIC Generation: Experiential, Participative, Image-Driven, Connected

The hardbound edition of the book about the characteristics of students of today gathered from student outputs, key informants and literature on studentsÕ life style positioning and peculiar traits. From the data collected, key points were marked with codes extracted from the text and grouped into similar concepts. Categories were formed, which became the basis for an acronym describing the peculiar characteristics of todayÕs generation. At saturation point the acronym ÒepicÓ was chosen. conveying four emergent themes which may literally mean, Òextending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scopeÓ becase the present generation is of unprecedented size in its interconnections via World Wide Web. This generation is also fittingly called "EPIC" because of its peculiar characteristics: experiential, participative, image-driven, and connected. This is the generation that has acquired so much power, and is therefore called to be responsible to cooperatively solve the pressing global problems.
