Glorious Things to Do is a great little companion book to "The Great Big Glorious Book For Girls", of which Rosemary Davidson was the co-author. This title is a lot smaller for those familiar with the Great Big book, coming in a regular paperback size, but is full of things just as interesting as the first book. It starts off with 'A Couple of Scientific Explosions' (just the cola and mentos and film canister types!) for the more daring girl. It also includes Crystal Making, Kite Constructing, Guitar Chords and a little song to play, Embroidery stitches and project ideas, Patchworking and a guide on how to make a Simple Skirt. There's a truly glorious section on Ice Creams and all the amazing ice creams that I remember having as a child but nowhere seems to serve anymore (Banana Split, Knickerbocker Glory!). There's recipes for sweet treats and outdoor game ideas, information about Bees including how to make a Bee Box for the garden, and a list of 10 birds "every girl should know" which includes a great lot of information, including what they sound like ... and this is just naming a few of the things that have been packed into this title.

I truly think every girl should own both the Great Big book and this companion. What I like most about these books is that they encourage the development of knowledge and skill, as well as encouraging young people to devise entertainment for themselves, instead of sitting around expecting the television or computer games or someone else to provide entertainment for them. And honestly, I'm nearly 20 and I still find joy in sifting through the pages of these books. Though my skill level may pass some of the recipes and activities, they are also a nice reminder of simplicity and a way of living that I admire. And they've been especially nice through all the rainy weather we've had lately!

I thought this book was cute although the instructions for the things to do were not detailed enough
