Spike is a children's science fiction set in a rural/coastal location. A nuclear recycling plant is the work place of a number key characters in the story and the surrounding countryside is the home of the story's hero - Spike. An eccentric professor's secret and illegal research creates highly toxic waste which leaks into the habitat and causes changes to the wild life. Spike is born with purple skin, a single spine and extraordinary powers, the effects of which spark off an imagined terrorist attack. With the help of eleven year old Jenny and her pets, Spike ends the pollution of his woodland home and lives safely in a newly created nature reserve.
