Unmarked is book #2 in The Legion series by Kami Garcia. I have been on a quest to finish up sequels that have been recently released of series I have started. For some unknown to me reason, I saved this one for last. Well, I could say I saved the best for last because this book was AMAZING! I gave the first book four stars. I really liked it so I’m not sure why I didn’t give it five. But now I’m glad because I saved the five stars for this one!

 photo dove1_zpsd5381eda.jpg

Nineteen days have passed since the ending of the first book. Nineteen days of Kennedy wondering if her friends were okay and where they were. Nineteen days of loneliness. Her mother’s sister that has legal guardianship of her has sent her off to a boarding school for at risk girls. But Kennedy is fine with it. She blames herself for everything. It was her that set the demon Andras free wasn’t it?! The world is in turmoil. The weather has gone crazy and girls are disappearing. The crazy thing is that each one of the girls has a strong resemblance to Kennedy. Then a cryptic messages appears on her mirror:

“I’m coming for you.”

 photo dove_zpsb34d427d.jpg

Was this a promise or was it a threat? Jared finally finds out where she is and sneaks into her school to get her. But Kennedy is convinced she should not go with him. She believes everything is her fault and since she still has not received her mark which would make her the fifth missing member of the legion, she is convinced that she does not belong.

“I need you,” Jared whispers, “More than I’ve ever needed anything.”

So, Kennedy goes with him, reuniting with the four members of the Legion, her friends. Elle has also joined them now. I loved getting to know her a little better. They have located Kennedy’s father’s sister, Faith. An Aunt Kennedy didn’t even know existed. Faith, though, has not had an easy life and is a bit out there we might say. She has the most awesome dog, a Doberman named Bear. This dog is just amazing.

 photo doberman_zpsfb733803.jpg

Faith is able to give the kids a little more information but mostly leaves them with more questions. Faith’s dreams, though, are like Kennedy’s. She has dreams of what is to come. Kennedy has so many questions. She wants to know why her father left her. But time runs out on them before they are ready. Faith finds a cryptic way to send them a message that sends them on a sort of treasure hunt, leading them to Faith’s journal, leaving Kennedy with a way to finally get to know the Aunt she never knew she had, and hopefully a way to learn how to kill the evil demon she blames herself for setting free.

This book was just so amazingly good. Intense does not even describe it! There are so many surprises and revelations. Nothing is what we thought. And there are so many twists and turns.

We get some oh so sweet moments between Jared and Kennedy. Even though they are young, these two are truly in love. Along with the sweet moments, though, there are some heartbreaking ones as well.

 photo chains_zpsf71ff8e9.jpg

So put on your seatbelt and dive in. You won’t regret it! Kami Garcia, you are a genius. Yes, there is a cliffhanger! Nothing is resolved. We are left totally hanging. So, Ms. Garcia, hurry up and get the next book written. I don’t think I will be able to wait.

TW// murder (of tons of adults and children), suicide, violence

Unmarked was good but it wasn’t as good as the first book. Unbreakable gave season one of Supernatural vibes with lots of monster killing and action. Unmarked gave the vibes of the later Supernatural seasons. There’s one major villain, less action, and tons of scenes where the good characters argue with each other. It’s not bad but it’s not amazing either.

I loved how this book kept up the pacing of the first book. Even though there was less action, it was still fast paced and I flew threw it just as quickly. I wouldn’t have minded a little more action, but I was very satisfied with the pacing of the story.

I was also really happy with all the plot twists in this story. Unbreakable felt a little predictable so I was expecting Unmarked to be predictable, too. However, there was one particular plot twist in this story that had me nearly drop the book because I was so caught off guard by it.

The rest of my review will contain mild spoilers for the side characters of the story. Reading these spoilers won’t spoil the plot for you and if you want to read this book mainly because of Priest or Lukas, you should read the rest of my review.

The major reason why I loved Unbreakable so much was because of the found family. Unmarked ruined the found family dynamics for me and I think a large part of that was because a few more characters were added to the group. Elle in particular ruined the dynamics. Elle was cocky and annoying. She shouldn’t have been added to the group, especially since adding her to the mix made Lukas, Alara, and Priest become minor side characters. The only times I could tolerate Elle was when she was bantering with Alara. Alara and Elle would’ve made a cute enemies-to-lovers couple, but then Lukas happened. Lukas played a big role in the previous book. He had a strong personality and he was one of my favorite characters in the first book, but unfortunately he became nothing more than “Elle’s girlfriend” in this book and their relationship felt really forced. Lukas’ whole personality disappeared for no reason. Alara at least kept her personality, but Alara’s part in this story felt really small. With Elle added to the mix, Kennedy had no reason to turn to Alara when she needed another girl to talk to. Alara having a boyfriend was also so unnecessary. I loved the idea that she was a strong, confident girl who didn’t need a man. And Priest… he was my favorite in the last book, but all the things I loved about him disappeared in this book. I loved how he was a fun engineer who was a little cinnamon roll in Unbreakable, but he becomes a grudge-holding, grumpy little boy in this book. His engineering skills were barely included. I really miss the old version of Priest. Kennedy and Jared kept their personalities at least, but I had hoped that my other favorite characters from the first book would’ve stayed the same or at least changed in a way that made sense.

I would still recommend this series because it’s a fairly decent series, but I think this book could’ve been done better. There’s no release date or information listed for book three in this series, but if book three ever happens, I have hope that Kami Garcia will turn the characters back into their loveable selves.

What, what, what.

I guess I'm desperate to read this book because I have no idea about what's next.
Nada.

Nothing.

That.
& the fact that Unbreakable was pretty good.

I felt not a lot happened in this book. spoiler:

To me the last book held more excitement and paranormal intrigue what with diverse range of spirits we met whereas this one was all about planning and teen drama. I mean I get that emotions are running high given all that's going on but couldn't the author have done something to not make it so melodramatic? For me a lot of the disputes felt like little kids squabbling. There are still some revelations which had me intrigued but the characters and lack of drive in the plot stopped me from enjoying this ......... as much as the last one at least.

This book is an improvement over its prequel, and that's why I'm giving it 3.8 stars. Ms. Garcia doesn't disappoint when the writing of spooky scenes and suspense is concerned. I also find those characters in her book growing on me as well. Although I have to complain: why would only five teenagers and four adults have been tasked to deal with a very powerful and dangerous demon and his minors trying to open the Gate of Hell? Why shouldn't more manpower to be added to handle such a huge crisis?

Still, I can't wait to read the sequel. Too bad it looks like Ms. Garcia has taken years and still hasn't finished the third book!!!!! T__T

May the black dove always carry you. And the white dove set you free.

It's like running in circles.

Unbreakable is to ghosts and spirits as Unmarked is to demons. Though, there are still ghosts and spirits lurking in this sequel.

Honestly, I still like Unbreakable over Unmarked. In Unbreakable, I was scared and engrossed but in Unmarked I was thrilled and a bit disappointed. I think my problem in this book is that it has been too focused on What I mean is I'm expecting a thrilling and scary adventure just like its predecessor but the book gave me a demon trapped in a cage, for half of the book if my estimate is right. Damn. This demon can possessed bodies and it's kinda predictable whose body will be the last person the demon will be taken in.

Besides, I think the characters didn't improve at all or didn't undergo a good characterization Maybe, they did. But it isn't remarkable or even noticeable for me. And the romance is still unconvincing.

Anyway, I still gave Unmarked 3.5 stars mainly because: (a) it kept me intrigued and engaged, for me to finish it in a short span of time (b) and I was dumbstrucked by the revelations and twists surfaced in this book.

Senseful, note-worthy and mind-blowing. It redeemed some of my disappointments. And it made the world, the story more complicated and interesting. I bet the third book will be a blast.

Sorry just got to ask...Am I the only one who thinks that the reason she didn't get the mark is because her mother wasn't the member of the legion but her father still is?? and because he's still alive there is no reason for it to pass on and the reason that he left in the first place was because he didn't want Kennedy and her mom to be involved??? because that's what it sounded like from the letter he left behind "...All I ever wanted for us - for Kennedy - was a normal life. I think we both know that's impossible."

This is just my theory though so...

Unmarked picks off a few weeks after events of Unbreakable, with Kennedy pining away at her new boarding school for Jared and the rest of her friends, and trying on her own to track the mysterious and trouble events that have been occurring since the events at the prison.

Trouble may be closer than she thinks, however, as mysterious events begin happening at the school - not to mention a rash of disappearances nearby, where all of the victims bear a startling resemblance to Kennedy.

Eventually the group manages to find their way to each other once again, and the real story starts as they are once again faced with the seemingly impossible task of defeating Andras before he can destroy everything they hold dear. They'll have to decide just how far they're willing to go, however, when during their first real encounter they run into some unexpected allies, and must decide whether or not to trust them, despite all they've been taught.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

This wasn't a bad addition to the series, but it didn't live up to what I was expecting after reading Unbreakable. The first book, while slow to start off, did draw me in and make me look forward to seeing what happened next. We also saw some genuinely creepy settings, the orphanage and the prison, and I was looking forward to what our protagonists would be running into next.

Sadly, it's not as good as I expected after the prison.

They travel for a bit, including to Americas' lamest museum, but eventually they spend the last 3/4 of the book or so in one place. This wouldn't be bad on it's own - there's plenty of books with fascinating stories taking place in boarding schools, haunted houses, and the like. But there's just not a lot going on while they're there, either.

Most of what we see is the group getting to know their new 'allies', deciding whether or not to trust them, and occasionally working on finding a solution to dealing with Andras before the world ends. It's a lot of angst and little action, especially with Kennedy mooning over Jared the whole time.

Compared to the eeriness of the orphanage ghosts, and especially how creepily the prison and it's inhabitants, I wasn't impressed by what we're shown of Andras so far, either. He's somewhat cunning, but not more so than one could expect of a human enemy. His actions, and those he influences others to make are not what I'd expect either - he causes some awful things to happen, yes, but not more than could be done by a human. He's not as creepy as you'd expect of a demonic enemy, or as impressive.

It wasn't a bad book, but it was a bit dull compared to the first. It feels like it's more build-up to the next stage of the plot than a book on it's own. I'm definitely going to check out the last book when it comes out - hopefully things will pick up and we'll get somewhere in that one.

I recieved the ARC of this book from the author/publisher through Goodreads Give-aways, in exchange for an honest review.

The ACR got here in two days. TWO. That's quite impressive, given that I'm still waiting for a horror one I won in Jan/Feb 2014 to arrive.

"Laughter echoed off the walls chills rippled through me. I realized what everyone else had known all along. The boy I knew was gone. The one caged before me was a monster. And I was the one who had to kill him."

Kennedy is trying to deal with the fall out from the end of the first novel. She isn't one of the Marked, she might have orchestrated the release of a deadly demon, and now she is stuck living with her only living relative, who has sent her to boarding school. She also has to deal with leaving Jared behind. But what Kennedy doesn't know is that the Marked group needs her help, and Kennedy is going to have to deal with past demons to find the help they need. Filled with family secrets, questions, and a demon who is out to get them, Kennedy needs to figure out her role in the Marked's quest, and why the demon wants her.

Such an exciting novel/fantasy world. Garcia gives readers what they want with sassy characters, good friendships, amazing guys, and complicated rituals. This reader will be greatly anticipating the next "Mark".

4.5 stars, thanks Edelweiss!

UNMARKED was one of my most anticipated books of 2014!! I was dying to get my hands on an ARC because I couldn't bare to wait any longer. And I was sooo happy after weeks later and 2 begging emails, an copy of UNMARKED arrived on my doorstep, and I was elated!!! I was jumping up and down like an idiot!! But I was a happy idiot, so I didn't care!! I immediately cracked it open, unable to wait any longer...and, oh the joy I found within it's pages!! The scary, terrifying, glorifying, world that I adored!!!

I love Kami Garcia's writing style, she always sucks me in from the beginning and glues me to the pages. The story is so addicting and satisfying, that I literary wanted to stomp my feet like a little kid, screaming "I want it NOW" when I was done this book. Seriously, it was that amazing!!!

THE PLOT...

The world has become a living nightmare...your worst fears are coming true, people are dying, killing, and torturing others because they have a thirst for blood, a lot of blood.

Andras, a powerful demon has been set free and wrecking havoc on the world. Killing and controlling anyone he pleases and turning their world into hells playground, and he's just getting started...

description

Kennedy is the one who set Andras free from his eternal prison. She is the one who is responsible for all the lives that have and will be lost at the hands of the vengeful demon, but she vows to stop him, or die trying!

Kennedy has finally been reunited with the other members of the Legion. Well not the other members, because she's not even sure if she's really even a member of the Legion or not, because she is still unmarked. But Kennedy can't bare the thought to leave. She knows it's not where she belongs, but her heart is pulling her to the only place she ever felt she really belonged, and that's in Jared's arms. Jared, one of the twins who saved her life on more then one occasion from a paranormal being, and the other members of the Legion have become her only family. Since her mother was murdered by a vengeful spirit, and her father walked out on her when she was young, Kennedy has felt alone, until now. So when Jared finds her after their separation, she's ready to get back with the Legion and undo the mess she created that horrible night she unleashed hell upon earth. But that's only "IF" it can even be undone...

As the members of the Legion race against time to find the demon wrecking havoc all over the states, they come face to face with an enemy organization called Illuminati. But what information they bring and secrets they hold, could very well change everything the Legion once thought.

But time is running out as the demons start multiplying, and the deaths become more frequent. The Legion and the Illuminati realize they will have to put aside their differences and work together if they're going to have any chance at finding and destroying the demons once and for all. But when a surprise visit from someone in the groups past surface, and someone else in the group in grave danger, they realize they might just of ran out of time...for everyone!!

description

THE LEGION is definitely a series I highly recommend! I think fans of supernatural and paranormal books will find this one just as addicting and satisfying as I did!! Even if you're not a big fan of paranormal books, I recommend you still give it a try, because it's not that dark, bloody, gory type read, so you might find yourself enjoying it!!

Overall, UNMARKED was a great second book with twist and turns that satisfied, enough action and drama that kept me entertained, and a continued romance that I loved from the first book!! I will be counting down the days until book #3 is in my happy little hands!!

NOTE: I received an ARC for reviewing purposes. All opinions expressed are my own and are not influenced in any way!!

4 Stars

I was excited to get my hands on this book. I recently read and enjoyed the first in the series, Unbreakable. This book did not disappoint as it lived up my expectations after reading the first book in the series. This book was a fast paced book with lots action, much like the first in the series. I would recommend that this series be read in order because this book picks up right where the first left off and the events of the first book are often discussed.

This book opens with Kennedy being not only separated from her group of friends, members of the Legion, but also being sent away to school by her aunt. The book gets it title from the fact that Kennedy remains unmarked after killing a spirit which means she is not actually a part of the Legion. She is not only crushed by that knowledge but by the knowledge that her actions have release a strong demon into the world. She tracks the demon by focusing on crime and notes that a string of girls have disappeared - all of which look very much like her.

Her friends have not forgotten her and she reunited with them after they track her down at school. Her friend, Elle, is with the rest of the group. Together they work to track the demon and find a way to destroy it before it is able to destroy the world. Their journey forces Kennedy to look into her family tree for answers and she realizes that everything may not be exactly as she had thought.

This book has a lot of twist and turns and is just plain fun to read. The writing flowed and I found myself consuming this story. The love triangle that I found annoying in the first book was gone in this book with Kennedy focused on only one of the boys. I found the characters a bit more likeable in this book than in the first. My only real complaint with this book was that there was no solid resolution. The ending was not abrupt and I am actually okay with the ending but it would have been nice to have seen everything get wrapped up with a nice little bow.

I would definitely recommend this book to others that enjoy a light paranormal story, especially those that enjoyed this first book in the series. I plan to continue with this series and cannot wait to see what else is in store for Kennedy and her friends.

I knew that the sole reason I enjoyed the first novel was simply chance, because when I read that one, I was kind of in the mood for a lighter and fluffier read, and I kind of predicted that I wouldn't like the second one as much. So, I'm not really surprised, but I will say that I am still pleased enough, because I did end up liking it more than I thought I would. This is by no means an outstanding sequel, let alone an outstanding series in the first place, but it's got something that I sort of like about it.

I have to admit that I really grew to like the characters in the first novel, so that foundation was already set and I think it's this fondness I carried with me into this one that really saved Unmarked for me. If I had to re-acquaint and re-like these characters, I don't think my reaction would have been quite the same. Sometimes I had to roll my eyes quite hard at what they did or said, and sometimes I just wanted to shake them. Still, I have to say there's at least some character development going on, which was nice to see, as well as some new cast additions that I actually liked as well.

The romances ... still a little too convenient and predictable. Jared turned into the absolute cheese monster, it was a little ridiculous. Also the fact that Kennedy is constantly being mopey and antisocial throughout the whole book — I mean, I totally understand where she's coming from and I don't hold it against her, but keeping up with her little pity parades regularly during the span of almost 400 pages... it does get a little annoying after a short while. Then there's the point of the budding romance between Lukas and Elle, which simply felt like a page filler and to have someone conveniently distract Lukas from the heartbreak he had to experience with the Kennedy/Jared thing from the first novel, as if every character needs a romance to round out their character arc, since yes, Alara sort of gets a love interest as well.

Which bringeth me to my next point actually, which was how frustratingly random the book could be sometimes. My fingers are itching to give examples here, but that would go into major spoiler territory already, so I won't, but I'll just say that sometimes I truly couldn't get behind why this thing or that thing was happening. It seemed to serve absolutely no purpose at all, except being, of course, a page filler. Something to hold you over until we could move on to the next plot point, but is in essence completely unnecessary and redundant. Sure, why not.

In the end, I did end up liking the book, as I said, I just didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first one. Which is kind of a shame, but like I said, I'm not terribly surprised or disappointed, as I really counted on this happening. I know me. Well, I for one am still definitely going to be reading the next book, which I think there's going to be one? So far, I still haven't read anything about a possible third one, but judging from that huge cliffhanger this one ended upon, there has to be one, no? Well, we'll see, I guess.

Picking up where Unbreakable left off, Unmarked ups the action and suspense to a whole new level. Kennedy is stuck between a rock and the devil himself after being responsible for releasing the Big Bad. Her regret for her actions is so great, that she ends up tracking the Big Bad's reign of terror which takes up her every waking moment. Her other regret is being separated from Jared who promised to find her.

With the Big Bad causing apocalyptic situations across the world, Kennedy doesn't exactly feeling as though she is capable of stopping anyone, let alone saving her Legion friends Alara, Priest, Lukas, Jared, as well as her best friend Elle who joins the cast.

Unmarked sets up the next installment in the series by going even further into a world full of death, angels, demons, and secret societies that have been on polar opposites for centuries. Secrets unveil themselves to Kennedy, and they're not exactly inspirational, nor do they bring her any closer to defeating the Big Bad. The key ingredient to Unmarked, is Kennedy's family. Why did her father really leave when she was 5 years old? Does she have any other family that could possibly be Legion?

Kennedy Waters would love nothing more than to hide away and pretend she wasn't directly responsible for releasing a horrible demon from his entrapment, but unfortunately, no one will let her - including the other members of Legion and Andras himself, who continually kills girls who resemble Kennedy. The Legion is at least willing to share in the mistake, but Kennedy is stubborn to let go. All they can do moving forward is to figure out why she hasn't gotten her mark, so the Legion seeks out clues to Kennedy's family past.

Unmarked was another quick read by Kami Garcia, but lacked a little in the action department compared to Unbreakable. It was good to get a better idea of where this series is going, but I didn't feel this installment was written in a way that resolved anything other than learning why Kennedy didn't get her mark, which happened long before the story ended. I don't know...this novel and it's direction was just weird for me.

Why you should read it: I loved Unbreakable, and the hot twins, and Unmarked was even better than book one. Kennedy, though, is not doing well, especially since she's the one who freed Andras (awful demon) from his prison. She and Legion also come face-to-face with an enemy organization (Illuminati) and the way the "game" is played is changing. Who is the real enemy and who is actively working on the side of good? The setting also has to get a shout-out because Kami really gives readers eerie … I mean, a taxidermy museum??? I loved that there was also a lot of action, I'm a blood-and-violence girl, so this kept me interested and happy. I also liked that readers get to see into Kennedy's past, her mom and dad … wow … I do wish Jared and Kennedy would get their act together, though, because the two of them have chemistry and I need more of that! I love the Legion series, it's dark eerie and well written.

Head over to the HEA Blog to see if Kami has any ghosts hiding in her family's closet!

Having another case of where two books in a series are already out and the author hasn't confirmed a third and final book, and that sucks as I'd like to know what happens next and some kind of closure for these books and yeah for a sequel it was okay but I did have a few gripes the same ones that where in the first book anyway it would be nice if got a final book.

A summery for Unmarked:

He is here... and he could be anyone.

Kennedy Waters lives in a world where vengeance spirits kill, ghosts keep secrets, and a demon walks among us–a demon she accidentally set free.

Now Kennedy and the other Legion members–Alara, Priest, Lukas, and Jared–have to hunt him down. As they learn more about the history of the Legion and the Illuminati, Kennedy realizes that the greatest mystery of all does not belong to any secret order, but to her own family. With the clock ticking and the life of someone she loves hanging in the balance, Kennedy has to ask the question she fears most: what is it about her past that has left her Unmarked?

I am curious to see how these books conclude if we ever a get a final book that would be nice.

like its predecessor, I'm giving this book a three because of the parts that aren't cliche, are actually pretty great.

sadly however, I'm pretty sure I had the entire plot figured out the second they read the original journal entry fro the night they summoned Andras, I knew exactly who was going to be what character and everything else that happened along the way basically just confirmed it, although there were a few parts that i didn't expect, like them running into Andras in the middle of the street. It took them 200 pages to figure out what i figured out in a second. I can't tell if this is the doing of the author or because I'm pretty good at figuring these kinds of things out. i have an ARC, so I'm not sure if it's the same in the published edition, but Garcia opens up with Kennedy interacting with Jared and hes possessed. I wasn't sure by who, although i assumed it was Andras, but the second I read that, I figured out the main plot points easily, which took away some of the fun. I think that opening hurt the story rather than helped it. I'm sure other people would say otherwise, but that's my two cents about this book.

Ransom Riggs wasn't kidding - this book really does surpass the original. Especially with its absolutely heartbreaking final third.

I swear, by the time the book ended, that was me. Even though there was no death involved (*cough* I'm still *cough* pissed off *cough* at Margaret Stohl *cough* for killing Ro Costas *cough* and sinking my ship *cough*), it was even sadder than the ending of Idols. It was the closest a non-death sad moment could come to emulating the ending of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, or Buffy Season 5, or Teen Wolf Season 3B.

It's official - Kennedy and I both need huggles now.

I LOVED Unbreakable. We're talking finished the first read and immediately started it again levels of love. I read that book all the time. So needless to say, my hopes were very high for its sequel, Unmarked. I had it all worked out how I wanted this story to go, but no fucks were given about my unsolicited vision. Everything that happened stressed me out more and more as all my hopes for Kennedy and the Legion were crushed. There were so many LukeIAmYourFatherNoooooooo wtf moments that I actually stopped reading the book for like a week. Fortunately, the last 80 pages of Unmarked veered off the depression highway and started to feel more like Unbreakable. The ending gave me hope for book three. I'll read this again at some point to see if I like it better without all the expectations I had going into the first read.

I read the first book in this series at least a year ago, but didn't feel like I was missing anything by just diving straight into this book. Kennedy and co still face the same amount of demon troubles, but any kind of plot twist you can imagine if you've read 'Unbreakable' pretty much happens in this book. Actually, I swear everything that's happened in 'Unmarked' happened somewhere in 'The Mortal Instruments' series, so perhaps read those instead if you like the sound of the angels vs. demons genre!

At a Glance:
I was so excited when Little Brown (Thank you so much, Faey Bi!) sent me this, that I screamed in excitement. I've been waiting and waiting for this sequel, but let me tell you, it was worth the wait. And I totally agree with Ransom Riggs when he says "A rare sequel that surpasses the original.". I read this book in no-time, I just couldn't put it down.

Action:
The action is one of the best things about this series. This book reminded me of the show Supernatural. Amazing. The ghosts. The demons. How they used salt rounds as bullets in a paintball gun. It was awesome, you get so pulled into book!

Romance:
Let me just say that Kami Garcia is a genius. The way she writes about Kennedy and Jared is so amazing. I do have to say that I love Lukas but I love Jared more. Jared is SO Dean (from Supernatural) and come on, everyone loves Dean. I'm really excited to read more about their story, I really enjoyed reading about them!

Heroine:
Kennedy was a very likable character. She's brave and totally in love with Jared. I really enjoyed reading about her character and I'm looking forward to read more of her story.

Hero:
Hmmm... Jared or Lukas? I'm going for Jared. There twins. There sweet, buff, and absolutely gorgeous. They reminded me of Dean and Sam from Supernatural (Jared as Dean and Lukas as Sam), and if you haven't seen Supernatural you should because its amazing.

Favorite Supporting Character:
Priest is the one who makes the book funny. He may be younger than the rest of the gang but he's definitely one of the smartest.

Something I loved:
The romance, the action, and the creepiness. I love all the characters and everything about this book.

Cliffhanger?
Yes. And I can't wait for the next one!

Would I recommend it?
If you're into a creepy thriller with some amazing romance, then definitely!

Will I buy/keep it?
Yes!

Rating:

4,5

So naturally, like any good TV buff, I am addicted to shows that involve incredibly good looking men who like to show their manly strength. If they have to slay a demon or spell one back to hell in a deep intruding voice then all the better. The Legion series is the book version of these such TV shows. To be brutally honest I did not enjoy Unmarked as much as I enjoyed Unbreakable.

But lets start with what I did enjoy. I loved the creativity. My favourite character by far is Priest and his awesomely logic inventions. If I had his brain I think I would be a bloody millionaire. Just saying. The side characters really pulled me through this book. If it wasn’t for them I probably would have disengaged a long time ago.

Another great element is the eariness, which although wasn’t as drastically present in this second instalment as in the first, it still crept up on you at the most unexpected points. It’ll leave you having to sleep with the light on.

I just don’t feel like I enjoy reading from Kennedy’s perspective. At times I find her concerned with things that are utterly painful and idiotic to be concerned about. Her inner dialogue at times can be repetitive, and her immaturity definitely shines through. I did not enjoy what happened just after the half way mark to my wonderful love interest. No, I did not. For the reason that my romance was then shot to hell!

Anyway.. I really must commend Garcia on bringing in lore and historical elements as well as secret societies. I think it added a whole other level that really made the story more interesting. It wasn’t completely as well executed as I would have liked, the clues were rather wanky, but all in all it makes for an excellent paranormal mystery romance.

Unmarked is the sequel to Unbreakable. I waited a whole year for this sequel so my expectations were a bit high. I loved Unbreakable so much, you can read my review here. It took me by surprise because I am not the biggest fan of paranormal books but I was instantly sold and fell in love. So I was a bit scared of Unmarked not being on the same level as Unbreakable. However, Unmarked was even better. It was so good, I couldn't put it down. This is fast becoming one of my favorite paranormal series for sure.

In Unmarked, the gang is all there, Kennedy, Alara, Priest, Lukas, and Jared. However we have a new addition, Kennedy's best friend Elle. I love this group's dynamic. Lukas and Jared are twins, Priest is a genius engineer and the youngest, Alara is kick butt, provides the funds, and always appears tough on the exterior, and lastly is Kennedy, our main protagonist who I've grown to like even more in this book. Of course there's Elle and she's Kennedy's cheerleader but also devil's advocate. In Unmarked, they're dealing with the consequences of what happened in Unbreakable (being vague so not to spoil anyone). There are so many gasp worthy reveals in Unmarked, my head was in a spin.

I love everything about Unmarked, from how gripping the plot is, to how logical and understandable every action by this group is made. I loved how they always stuck by each other, and I especially love their friendship. Good characters, plot, and flow are so important in books. Unmarked had all. These characters really hold a close place in my heart and I love them so much. Kami Garcia's writing is a perfect example of an enjoyable prose. The third book is definitely going on my most anticipated sequels of 2015.

Source: I received a copy from Hachette and Little Brown for an honest and unbiased review.

Note: These are my personal opinions. I received no outside person comments or opinions.

Let me first start by saying that I didn't hate this book, but I also didn't love it. The character plotting got slightly better. However, my biggest problem was that the prologue told the reader what was already going to happen to the characters so it left no suspense for the end.

Plot Summary:

Kennedy is unmarked and she is wondering why that is. The Legion goes in search for the last member hoping they can give them clues as to what is going on with Kennedy and how to vanquish the demon. But for Kennedy, its not just about getting the mark, its about learning the secrets of her family and quite possibly good vs. evil.

My Reaction:

I thought this book was great with the surprises and twists and turns. I mean, right when you think the book is going one way, snap! PLOT TWIST! Garcia did a great job with the plot twists. However, I just think that the prologue about Jared didn't need to be included in the book.

Overall, This was an okay read. This series might be something I'd recommend.

"I don't belong with the four of you."
The real members of the Legion.
"You belong with me no matter what,"

I love this series! This is my first series by Kami Garcia and I have to say whatever she writes from now on I will definitely be reading. I have not read something quite so creepy and scary, but with a perfect blend of romance and tenderness. I love Kennedy because she is a strong character, but vulnerable at the same time. Jared is amazing as always and I can just read and swoon over him. Alara's character is unique and the addition of Elle joining the gang this go 'round was great. The banter between Alara and Elle was hilarious. Which is welcomed in the mix of all the dark. Along with Lukas and Priest I love this group of ghost hunters!

"Every person has one thing that defines them. A truth they believe in above everything else. You are my truth."

I just might die waiting on book 3 because I have no idea when it's going to be released, but I will devour it when I do get my hands on it. Awesome series!

Kennedy has inadvertently unleashed a demon into the world. She wants so desperately to be a part of the Legion, but she has been left unmarked. She is afraid that the boy she loves will not love her if she is not eventually marked as part of the Legion. Now a bad situation has turned into her worse nightmare. Because of her mistake, people are dying. The Legion has to find the remainder of Kennedy's family for answers. The answers are truth that she does not want to hear. The Illuminati and the Legion, who have been enemies for hundreds of year, must now work together to save Jared and bind the demon. Secrets are revealed and the group is falling apart.

We can only guess what the end of the story will be...there is no book three.

There are very few sequels that are better than the first book. Right now, only one comes to mind -- before Unmarked, that is.

This book has swoons and laughs and some heartfail and some pretty huge revelations. It all sets up for what has to be an epic showdown in book 3. It was such a roller coaster, I loved every page.

The ending left me speechless and I need book 3 immediately.

**Huge thanks to Little Brown and Edelweiss for providing the arc in exchange for an honest review**

3.5/5

This was a good sequel to unbreakable. It was really fast paced and action packed, I really liked the creativity Kami had when coming up with some of the aspects of the supernatural world. However, it fell a bit flat for me. The writing was extra cheesy in this novel and the pacing was quite off.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I would recommend the series (annoyed that there is no news on the 3rd book though)
