Roman's Search for Perfection . . .

Roman went from store to store, trying to find a very special Barbie doll for Sadie’s birthday. He did not want to disappoint his niece, but every place he visited was sold out of the mermaid Barbie. He had only two hours left before he had to be at the party. When an accident brought traffic to a stop, he knew he had no more time left to get to the last department store. But spotting a small antique shop, he decided to take one last desperate look for a suitable gift. It was odd he had never seen this shop before since he passed this way often. He wandered the rooms, everything coated in dust. In the last room, he saw an old shoebox and was drawn to it. Under the tissue paper, found a tiny teacup with a doll in it! The porcelain doll was beautiful, perfect, and seemed to be able to see him!

Racing to the party, Roman was happy to see that Sadie loved her new doll and named her Vivien. She kept the doll with her right up until bedtime. Roman’s sister, Olivia, took her daughter upstairs to tuck her in as Roman tried to turn off the Hallmark movie that had started. But the remote did not respond. A voice behind him commented that he could not stand watching what he can’t have, a perfect love. Startled, he turned around to an empty room. Every time he turned back to the TV, the voice continued to talk to him about needing real and lasting love. Then he saw the doll standing up on the carpet and talking to him! She claimed to be a matchmaker, chosen by men when they need her help. He told her the “ideal” woman for him. But a search for perfection can leave a person lonely if they are not willing to love anyone less than perfect.

Waking the next morning, he found a playing card next to the aspirin he had left there for the hangover he knew would come. The doorbell rang and a blonde woman, Maeve, handed him his mail mis-delivered to her. She was new to the neighborhood – and asked him to go for coffee with her! After spending the day together, he drove her home. But she pushed him into her living room where he saw pictures of himself taped to the wall and scattered over the coffee table. She told him not to be afraid, she would take good care of him. Then the lights went out and he woke up in his bed! He saw the playing card next to his aspirin, but the card was no longer the Two of Hearts… it was the Ace of Spades. What was going on?

This is such a clever story line! The suspense builds and the reader is not sure what to expect next. Grab your copy and experience the magic and chills of a well-told tale. Then go on to the other stories as well!

I love this collection of short stories! They are all super easy to read and so entertaining. I love the whole getting a wish granted and seeing the consequences. We all think we want all of our wishes granted, but they can go so wrong! Roman's story is probably my favorite. Vivian gave him 3 choices. All good choices and none of them were good enough. It was an all or nothing game, and he lost. Every single story had its quirks, and it worked so well. The writing was all over the place, but it made perfect sense for the stories and characters! This is my favorite collection by this author. The other books just didn't work for me. These? They worked for me in every single way!! I want more wishes gone wrong collections.

This is a great collection of short stories about wishes. We make wishes, they sometimes come true, but is that a good or a bad thing? A wish can be seen in many ways, so could you ask for something and you get what you want, but not in the way you wanted it?

I loved reading these, seeing the characters' stories go the ways they do.

This is a collection of short novellas that can be read during a break or lunchtime. The stories are about wishes and how they affect the person doing the wishing. Sometimes they are good and sometimes not so good. It is like the old saying "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it". I recommend this boxset to all readers.

I enjoyed this collection of short stories all about wishes. All were interesting and fun to read. All showed be careful of wishes and ended in rather wild ways. I laughed and groaned but enjoyed them all. Loved the bits of twists in them all.

Five darkish short stories where wishes come true, though not necessarily the way the wisher intended:

Dreaming of Noelle:
Max, a once-avid Christmas lover turned Scrooge, finds himself stuck in a cycle of bitterness after his girlfriend leaves him on Christmas Day. But everything changes when Noelle, a mysterious dream figure, enters his life and reignites his holiday spirit. Lots of twists and turns, that lead you to an unexpected ending, especially for a holiday love tale.

Shattered Heart:
Chris is devastated after his fiancée, Leah, cheats on him and ends their engagement. To move on, Chris travels to Thailand, where he stumbles upon an old woman selling a mysterious heart stone. Little does he know, this stone opens a portal to his new soulmate, Serena. Their relationship starts off well, but Serena begins to develop her own emotions, leading to a heart-wrenching twist. Another not so happy ending, though Chris definitely learns something about himself and love.

Game of Hearts:
Roman wants to find his ideal woman but always ends up alone due to his pickiness. Things take a surprising turn when he discovers that the porcelain doll he bought for his niece is alive and claims to be a matchmaker. Each Saturday, Roman encounters three very different women, reliving the day repeatedly. Roman navigates through unexpected twists and turns, questioning his search for perfection. He learns the hard way about the importance of embracing imperfections in relationships.

Dating the Damsel:
Kadri/Kade is Scarlett's pet tiger. He listens to her dating woes and silently offers her comfort and solace, yearning to be more than just a tiger. Kadri visits a witch living in a nearby swamp and has the witch change him from a tiger to a man, from Kadri to Kade. He goes to Scarlett and as their friendship grows, he wants more, but Scarlett misses her beloved Kadri until he knows he must reveal what he's done. A sweet story, though the love felt more one sided on Kade's part - it didn't feel like Scarlett loved Kade the man. An interesting play on The Little Mermaid.

The Influencer:
Alexis is desperate to achieve fame as an influencer and even though it makes her sick to her stomach, she deletes her old profile so that she can reinvent herself. Her new persona seems to be working but quickly fizzles and Alexis agrees to meet an online persona who can change her status. DreamComeTrue/Kel freely offers Alexis what she desires most with just a few drops of an elixir – though Alexis figures if one drop is good, the whole vial must be golden. Alexis finds that fame comes with its own dark price.
