I’ve been hired to protect the weregator community, just outside Misty Hollow, from whatever is living in the swamp—something that continues to claim lives.
Why would a group of machismo gators need the protection of a woman like me? Easy—I’m a gorgon, and with my stare that can turn any creature into stone, I’m basically at the top of the supernatural food chain.
But when six more weregator youth go missing, we all realize there’s something inside the swamp that’s bigger than all of us.
In fear for our lives, we must seek solace inside the protected perimeter of Misty Hollow. But seeking that protection means asking the mayor, Alistair Beaumont, for help.
And that’s not easy because Beaumont essentially stole the land Misty Hollow sits on, and the weregators still haven’t gotten over it.
When we’re denied entrance to Misty Hollow, I decide to take up the case personally and make it my own mission to approach Beaumont.
What I’m not counting on, however, is the sudden attraction I feel toward the scoundrel. Nor the way he reacts to me.
While my hormones are certainly reacting to the vampire, I’m also reasonably sure that Alistair Beaumont isn’t all he seems—and, more particularly, that he’s hiding something. Something big.
Good thing for me that I’m just the type of woman who likes to solve mysteries because this is one mystery that affects us all.
I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.
My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.
Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!
I did not connect with the third book in the series as I did in the first two. The story line is different with characters that did not work for me , lots of action, twist, misdirection, and violence leading to the conclusion. I would recommend this series and authors to readers of paranormal fantasy mystery novels 👍🔰. 2023 👒😀😡🏡
A wonderful read. Great characters that keep developing through out the series. Unexpected twist and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend.
The newest woman to join the fight against whatever monster is living in the swamp is a Gorgon; think Medusa and hair of snakes with eyes that will turn you to stone. While again lots of lives were lost and only one battle won, they are losing the war. But we learn more about Alastair, the vampire in charge of the Hollows and why he is here. So, progress.
This is the third and final book of this omnibus and this time we meet the Gorgon bounty hunter, Medora. Yes, she is basically a supernatural Medusa who is brought in after it becomes apparent that the "entity" in the Louisiana Bayou is only getting stronger with each kill - and there have been many. With just a little more energy, this "thing" can take on an actual physical presence and things will go from bad to worse.
As it says in the title - Medora owns her own security company - Serpentine Solutions. As with the previous FMC's, she is a tough and strong female. Professionally, she is very capable, but she has never had a relationship because anyone who looks her in her eyes - well you know the deal.....they turn into stone. In a bit of a twist, that doesn't necessarily kill them, but the antidote takes a REALLY long tim,e and it is definitely not a fun circumstance, so she does her absolute best to not look people accidentally in the eyes.
Wouldn't you know it, somehow, the town mayor (and womanizing player) happens to be the only person EVER that looked her in the eyes and...... nothing happened. Wouldn't you know it....he's immune. So, you can see where that is going.....
This was probably my least favorite of the three, but I think it was more that I was tired and ready for them to just take care of the monster at this point. Sometimes it really just is "you" (and of course, by you, I mean me) when you read a book when you are just not in the right head space.
To be fair, this was a very quick and easy read/listen. It is not complicated and doesn't take too much mental focus. With that being said, there was also not very much depth to it. The minute I finished each book, I never ever had another thought about any of the characters.
Would I have liked it better at a different time? Maybe......?
I am so happy with this third book in the series, I could scream. We are introduced to Dory, a Gorgon, and she’s so interesting. Add in seeing all the characters we’ve already been introduced to, and this was such a fun book. We learn so many things with this one, other things are teased, and we are still left with many questions. I think this is my favorite book so far in the series, and I’m excited to see what’s going to happen next in this world…and just exactly what they are all dealing with. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Well, we certainly saw a different side to Alistair and it was surprising. Having a gorgon as a main character was an excellent idea. I’ve truly enjoyed this series and I’m looking forward to more. I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
alot of fun. Enjoyable series, but if you are looking for interaction between the main characters from the 2 previous books, there isn't much, actually you don't even know about Violetta's daughter, until the end.
Story sucked me in from the first book (like everything else HP and JP have written!!!). Love the introduction of new monsters and shifters. Love the story and building relationships. I cannot wait for the next book!!! Well worth the read!
This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was fast-paced, fun and held my interest. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series.
In this third book, we finally get to find out who the woman with the scales on her legs is. Dory turns out to be related to Medusa, is the gorgon of legend with the turn you to stone stare and head of snakes. Now same old same old comes in, as she, too, is at odds with her family. Really? All three women main characters have family issues?
Dory is hired protection, hired by the weregators as protection for the evil in the swamp, ‘cause turn you to stone ability. Jean Baptiste’s younger brother Francois wants to be with Dory. Dory’s not interested in him like that, Francois has hard time with that. Francois was a red flag. He enters in Dory’s room without knocking, sneaks in on her and the only thing pointed out was his attempt to kiss her without permission afterwards? He deserved the thump to the forehead he got.
Dory being with the vampire mayor, who is shady as sh**, was not a good thing. Why did Dory have to be stuck with having him? Alistair being the supposed first of the male species to look at her with sustained desire, which isn’t exactly true since François was already aware of what she was and still wanted her, yeah just because her body comes alive, she becomes a complete idiot with lacking conviction to not be with someone who has shown themselves to be a complete POS? Doesn’t matter that he was trying to contain the evil, his means of doing so was a complete lack of regard for anyone else’s life. So Dory gets to be the pathetic, weak woman who still wants the deplorable man. There is absolutely zero respect for Dory that was created with this nonsense.
The weregators go to seek asylum in Misty Hollow, which aforementioned shady as shhh mayor turns them down, tells them to leave in the morning. The boat they came on was found sinking, and they’re wondering how to get back? They’re not wanting swim due to that still own identified evil enough swamp, and conveniently Dory it said to have to stay behind since if they do get in the water, she can’t swim, due to the evil. Jean Baptiste made Marina walk from their home back to Misty Hollow, so why would they not know of that? A route they have used in order to spy on Misty Hollow in the first book? Ridiculous convenience writing to set up a relationship that shouldn’t even be written to be occurring, one that is cut and paste to the first two books, ad far as, always start off with this angst, this conflict between the two characters, and then no resolution as to whether or not there is a relationship by book’s end. And her not being able to turn the vampire to stone? Not believable to me. The vampire might be so-called dead as everyone keeps saying, though they’re not really, the term of undead comes to mind; however, they have to utilize LIVING blood to be able to continue existing. The only creature that I see having believability to not turn to stone, is the turn to stone stone creatures, the gargoyles. But whatever.
Alistair laments how he also lost people in counter to Marina expressing how Jean Baptiste lost people out there WHEN IT IS ALISTAIR’S fault the loss of people, he kept the danger secret, left everyone uninformed when he knew about it! Why wasn’t that pointed out? No, Dory made excuses and excused the inexcusable. Thinks that he is amoral, a deceiptful manipulator, and schemer, then says “And at the end of the day, he was still a good leader.” Are you kidding me right now with this BS?
Alistair and Dory were put in armor fashioned by the fae Typha, so how is it the Alistair reaching for the buttons of his shirt, taking off his shirt and Dory seeing his naked chest to lust over? Small grace for Dory is her thoughts she is not getting with Alistair due to who he is as a person and what he’s done, but it’s weak. But again, book comes to an end with no relationship between the two, and in this case, definitely a good thing.
And at the end, we still don’t know what the evil in the swamp is, now going into the fourth book. I’m at the point of very close to no longer care or want to know. I’m contemplating whether I want to move on to the fourth book, this series has 8 books. If the same formula continues throughout, can’t see continuing.
This series gets spookier with every book and I love it! This is a new Hollow series from these authors with a dark and sinister feel. Grab yourself a cuppa, a snack and a footstool because you’ll want to read this in one go.
Things in the swamp have gone from bad to worse. Teen weregators are missing, presumed dead and the mystery predator in the swamp seems to be the prime suspect. Things go from worse to disastrous when the weregator community’s pleas for asylum are rejected by the Hollow’s Vampire Mayor and tragedy ensues.
Dory is a Gorgon on a mission. She’s a descendent of Medusa who has left her reclusive colony and gone out into the wider world. Hired as protection by the weregators, she’s involved in their efforts to seek asylum in the hollow.
She’s strangely drawn to the Mayor and he seems equally fascinated by her. During the course of her negotiations, she uncovers his secret and the reasons why the hollow is being built in an unconventional way. It’s worse than any of them could have imagined.
We finally get to see who the Mayor is and what makes him tick. I can’t wait for the next book.
The Misty Hollow series is written from a variety of points of view which all run in parallel with each other. They have an underlying story arc, so need to be read in the correct order.
The reading order so far is:
Book 1 : Mermaid Mayhem (Eerie Investigations) Book 2 : Big Girls Don’t Scry (Miscellaneous Magic) Book 3 : Gorgon Gone Wild (Serpentine Solutions)
Welcome back to Misty Hollow where the weregators are being attacked and need help from the hollow but they won't help out. Dory has been hired by the gators to keep them safe but there is a bigger threat out there they any of them know. After being attacked by by and unknown force they are force to seek help from the hollow. Allistair the mayor and vampire of the hollow doesn't want them to enter but when Dory pleads their case things take a different turn. Can a vampire and a gorgon be able to save the hollow and find out that there is a place for both of them . We get to see the hollow from a totally different view this time around. Dory is a Gorgon a descendant of Medusa. She doesn't think that she is good enough because she isn't like the rest of her family. She is a very cautious woman who really doesn't realize her own worth. We also get to see the rest of the cast of characters . The were gators are such a fun read they may come of gruff and rough but deep down they are a family and when a family gets hurt they come together to fight.. And what is up with Allistair is was such a fun read this time . He wasn't so much of a stick in the mud, uptight arrogant man. He does have a heart under that vampire mask he dons every day. This is such a fun fast read and it was nice to see the other part of the community shown in the book. The characters are so much fun to read and every book has a new character that just adds to the family. I am truly enjoying this series and they would be a great read for the last part of summer. So if you want a fun read check out this series you will be laughing all summer.
Gorgon Gone Wild is the third book in the Misty Hollows series by H.P. Mallory and J.R. Rain. While Misty Hollows is a spin-off of the wonderful writing duo’s Haven Hollows series, the setting, characters, and shenanigans are vastly different.
Misty Hollows is set in Louisianna and still under construction. Our main character is Dory, a Gorgon – think Medusa and you’ll be all set. Dory has been hired to protect the weregators in the swamp outside of Misty Hollows. There is something in those swamp waters that continues to haunt the community and infiltrate Misty Hollows. When more weregators go up missing, a small band of weregator ambassadors descends on Misty Hollow to see asylum under the protect of mayor point fangs, Alistair Beaumont. Things do not go as planned.
I love how different Dory is from the characters in Haven Hollow. She’s less mystical and more mythological. In fact, all the characters in Misty Hollow are different, unusual, and fun. Except, Gorgon Gone Wild has some decidedly darker undertones than the first couple of books. I was drawn into this different view of the Misty Hollows neighborhood.
The writing duo of H.P. Mallory and J.R. Rain bring interesting stories, intriguing characters, and thought-provoking mysteries to life. The character development provides history and growth, and the world-building creates a fantastic world to watch the characters do their thing.
Back in the town nicknamed the Hollow, a gorgon, Dory, has joined the ranks. She has been hired to protect the weregators from the entity in the swamp. They are all at a loss as to what to do to defeat the entity since no one knows what it truly is. So far, only two small victories have succeeded against it. The town mayor is refusing to allow the gators to take haven in Hollow. Dory will figure many things out about what the latest monstrosity is killing those in the swamp and is coming after everyone in town. What is going to happen this round? How many will die? Who? What exactly is going on between the mayor and Dory? Another exciting adventure in the town of the Hollow!
I love the art on the book cover! I admit that I prefer my supernatural characters to be familiar. I've read about gorgons but never found one as a main character. She is interesting but I was always disturbed by the Medusa snake hair. I am terrified of snakes. We did get to see a side to the mayor that wasn't shown before and I found that fascinating. There's some very sad parts to this book and new beginnings.
