To the world, I’m Carmine the beta barista, not Nova the omega who’s being hunted by her old pack.
I live my life by one rule: Blend in and be forgotten.
Then I meet my three rich bosses. For some reason they take an interest in me and it’s impossible to avoid them since we work together.
To make matters worse, they’re searching for the perfect omega to protect and cherish.
They’re everything I could ever wish for. Just as I’m finally letting my guard down, my old pack comes sniffing around and threatens to destroy everything I’ve built with these men.
But what happens they find out I’m not who they think I am?
Well what a delight this was! Nova and the guys were great! I do enjoy a good bosses and employee love story, especially in the omegaverse because they're so fundamentally drawn to each other. Lycus might have been my favourite character but I always love the ones that are a little unhinged.
The way that the guys lifted up Nova and helped her regain her sense of self was beautiful.
I loved the little bits of Kiki and her pack cause I loved them in Knot My MC.
Randall cracked me up so much, he was a great side character.
Overall an excellent read like all of the others in the series, I'd highly recommend this read.
I received an ARC copy of the book but I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
Nova is matched to a pack who promised her claiming bites but her first heat passes without them delivering it. She finally finds the courage to ask them about it only for them to turn on her and sell her to another Alpha who forces omegas to strip in his club and have sex. To force their cooperation he gets them addicted to drugs. Nova is rescued by bikers who were once friends of her deceased brother, with their help she's able to relocate, complete rehab and start her life all over again. Starting a job at a cafe leads to get finding 3 Alpha's who are captivated by the woman they thought was a beta, but enemies fall out of the woodwork and though Nova tries to keep a low profile her old pack is able to make bail and find her.
****** Ok so apparently some of these events took place in the previous book which is the bikers story, their h becomes Nova's friend and is the one helping her along. We didn't see the rescue or most of what she went through. We're told some of what took place We've got 3 very rich Alpha's who are drawn to her and meet her individually but because she's on scent blockers etc they think she's a beta. This allowed a slow build to the sexy times which was needed because of all she'd been through. This was a pretty entertaining read that flowed really well, it's lost it's way when they eventually have sex and I became very bored Sexy times sucked btw A mishmash of events in the end but finally her old pack gets very much unalived yayyyyyy Not a bad read but after the sexy times it just didn't hit the same way I did not like her begging for them to bite her considering that's what she did with her previous pack Certain events in the plot didn't flow very well and felt disjointed Secondary characters who had their book previously
No cheating The Alpha's were looking for an omega but the h clearly had their interest even though they thought she was a beta h was sex trafficked and is now a recovering addict from that experience
This was pretty good. I really liked the slow pacing for the first half, but would have happily taken a longer book to pace the second half better. It was definitely more of a slow burn than most omegaverses are. Nothing really different about this but still a good fast read that scratched the omegaverse itch.
*Reverse Harem *Omegaverse *Multi-PoV *omega as beta *billionaires *traumatic past *established harem (3) *slow burn *standalone Heat heat heat We first met Nova in Knot my Pack where we got an inkling of the trauma she had been put through, but with the focus on her in this book we get to experience the full impact it had on her 😔😔 Miles writes the struggles that Nova has with her self-worth, cravings and panics sensitively and realistically! Hiding out as a beta with the help of Kiki, Nova becomes Carmine and starts out for herself avoiding anything Omega or Alpha related! Yet fate had other plans and she happens to start feelings things for three men - I love how she meets them individually and then it all kinda comes together! It’s a real ohhhhh shit LOL 😂 moment! Javi is certainly the ‘daddy’ of the group sand the the dominant leader; Rome is the more silent lethal side but very protective; and then we have Ly the trouble causer - they all balance each other out and truly help Nova to see what she can have from life ☺️☺️ But can she get past her past enough to give this opportunity a chance, or is her past about to come back and haunt her?! A great standalone read here, with all your typical Omegaverse tropes!
sometimes i purposely read books that i know im going to hate because i want to laugh so imagine my surprise when this was trailing the line of being actually good!
the first half is a well paced story, a slow burn that makes sense, meet cutes and charming coincidences and a fmc that was actually facing the consequences of trying to live after traumatic events! someone who was actually trying to get control over her bad habits and heal! and one of the mmc goes to therapy!
and then the author kinda just gave up on the story? idk, that's how it felt for me. we have a big revelation and then they're suddenly ready to be all over each other and all of the bad manners, misbehaving and traumatized patterns that they indulge in is being healed by the power of dick and shallow love.
the only thing bigger than my surprise was my disappointment. i was almost liking it.
Premises: Sweet omegaverse. Nova is a traumatised omega who is hiding from her old pack, and disguising herself as a beta working in a coffee shop. The three MMCs (Javier, Ly and Rome) are her alpha bosses who are searching for an omega for their pack, but (obviously) find themselves drawn to the guarded beta who calls upon their protective instincts.
I really liked how Nova developed a relationship with each of the men while she was pretending to be a beta. Each relationship had a slightly different dynamic, and the way the author used the setting/location to help us tell the men apart was also clever. Also, I can’t resist a wounded bird FMC/protective MMC (x3) pairing, and I have zero complaints about how that part of story played out.
What I liked less was the pacing — it was a slow-burn with solid development until the characters got together, then it jumped to a series of sex scenes and a quick wrap of loose ends. The storyline itself was great, just wish the pacing was evened out a little.
Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ “Will you be mine, Nova? Will you be my good girl?”
📚 Book Review 📚 Hurt/comfort omegaverse at its finest! This was such a sweet read – I loved the all-in MMCs who fell for the FMC even before discovering she was an omega. They loved her before biology kicked in (yes, there was some residual biological pull, but their true feelings emerged without that all-encompassing need to claim their omega).
Nova was broken, but the alphas helped repair all the cracks in her armor. Silencing the negative voices. Showing her that she was worthy. Showing her that she was wanted. Showing her that she deserved all their love.
A medium-burn romance that becomes very spicy by the end, this MFMM has MF and group scenes.
Heat & Deceit is a standalone in the Omega Heat series and ends in a HEA. I highly recommend this book to omegaverse lovers!
🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧 Excellent duet narration by Bridget and Jake Bordeaux! They take an already fantastic book and add extra spice. They are a great team, and I enjoy all their audiobook performances.
Genre: Contemporary Omegaverse Romance Tropes/Features: Boss/employee, billionaire, all-in MMCs, hidden omega, hurt/comfort, touch her and die, dominant MCs, shibari, soft dom, group scenes, “Good Girl”, praise, naughty talk, breeding kink Narrator: Multiple 1st Person POV Narration Type: Duet-style Narration Voice Actor (s): Bridget and Jake Bordeaux Relationship Type: Why Choose – MFMM, medium burn, spicy Book Type/Ending: Standalone with HEA TW/CW: Available in book
I love a good book where an omega tries to hide her identity and live as a beta. Lucky for her, however, her three rich ceo bosses take her under their wing and fall for her, regardless of her designation. The alphas are caring and sweet, and I just love books where the employee falls for her employers - despite trying to resist. Slow burn, but the steam - when it happened - was fire 🔥🔥🔥
It started out really really good. The first half was awesome, there was incredible character introduction and development and the growth of the relationship was well-paced and felt realistic. After the holiday party at like 55-60% of the way through, it’s like everything had to be rushed and shoved into the end. I would have loved for it to be a little longer of a book with more detail to those events. The old pack felt like they came out of nowhere and we’re handled way too quickly, I feel like there should have been more build up to their reveal. Georgina also comes out of nowhere and you don’t really get to see anything more come of her, you’re just expected to kind of know her personality and accept the sudden relationship with her and Nova and I wish there was more development to that. On a more positive note, I adored all the characters you actually get to know. Randall was hilarious and sweet. Ly was my favorite, his self deprecation and constant antagonistic comments cracked me up and it was so nice to see the way it encouraged Nova to come out of her shell and rediscover herself. The loyalty of the pack warmed my heart. All three guys were ready to defend each other and hold each other up. 3.75/5
Would’ve been great but the timeline and spacing was terrible. It was way too slow paced then way too fast and nothing flowed the way it should have. Good storyline, though.
This, folks, is how you write a perfect omegaverse book!! Honestly, I haven’t loved one this much since Lila and the millionaires. Gaaah it’s just perfection on every level, it’s the classic “omega with traumatic past, running and hiding as a beta” without it feeling like trauma porn, without her being all simpering and annoying and with some proper, good character growth. Loved the coffee shop setting, loved all the alphas (especially Ly! Be still my heart), the smut was well written and not too much. This was my first book of the author and I’m so excited to read the rest of this series.
I very much enjoyed the first part of the omega-in-hiding story. The second part was mostly just them getting frisky or kissing. A lot of kissing. It was almost like a switch was turned and it went from Nova hiding, not liking being touched, keeping her distance etc., and the bam, she is all over them (and the other way around). Luckily, the author kept some of her insecurities in the last part of the story, and that made the character arc a little more believable. I would have wished for more of a reaction, when Nova reveals her past (it is very dark), but like the rest of the story, not a crazy lot happened. Still, a nice read.
Rory Miles has done it again, guys. Heat & Deceit is book 4 in the Omega Love series, and it might be my new fave. I've adored this series from the very beginning, but this book had all the vibes I love. Hurt/comfort, a cozy coffee shop, found family, and the sweetest smúț. ☕️ Nova is an omega hiding from her past and old pack. She spends her days as Carmine, the calm beta barista. She works to blend in and not be noticed. No extra emotions, no feelings, just get through each day. The walls Nova has built around herself start to crumble when they come up against her 3 alpha bosses. Javier, Lycus, and Rome have been looking for an omega forever, but no one fits their pack. When their coffee shop gets a new barista, the guys take notice. What is so special about this beta, and why do they feel so drawn to her? 🎹 Nova has lost her trust in people and finds it hard to be close to others. She's angry and defensive, but as friends and the alphas begin to show her what real relationships can be like, her personality creeps back in. She's feisty and blunt, Nova uses her sarcasm like a weapon and takes no śhīt. It's honestly wonderful. When she lets these bits of herself out around the guys, the real fun starts. Her and Lycus should charge for the show they put on, lol. Lycus and Rome are yummy, but I have to say my heart is with Javi. His softdom growly vibes are the *best* and I love the playful cheekiness that comes out here and there. I also liked his use of Sĥiɓari to help Nova with her anxiety. Honestly, though, you can't go wrong with any of these alphas. They are exactly what Nova needs, and I could read them all day long. 🏺 This story is about being broken down and built back up, and I had such a lovely time seeing the growth of these characters. Also, I'm always so happy that @rorymilesauthor keeps these stories childfree. So many thanks for the ARC,and I'm a little sad that I don't have more of Nova and her guys to go back to. I hope y'all give this book a read cause you really don't want to miss these sweet and smůtţy vibes.
I expected a lot more spice from this one because Shibari was mentioned, and yeah, it was there .
The plot was okay, kinda dragged a little, but picked up the pace in the middle,.
At least the characters were okay though. I liked the MC, and the guys were distinguishable enough and didn't feel like clones of one person. My favorite has to be Lycus. Gotta love me a slightly unhinged man.
Trauma had Nova becoming Carmine in order to have a chance at a normal life. Although an Omega, her new persona is that of a beta not wanting to garner any attention from alpha's who may come too close. Her bosses those sense there is something different about Carmine and it is not long before they discover her secret. Ly, Rome and Javi know that she is their mate, they also are aware that they need to earn her trust in order to have any hint of a future. Will Nova be willing to give them a chance or will she push them away?
This one had so many layers to it. I felt for Nova because her past is horrific. All the guys were wonerful but Ly stood out the most to me. Great story, going to read more from this author.
4.25 stars- Enjoyable and I feel more believable than most Omegaverse stories. I want to read more from this author. All kinds of triggers- so beware and read the authors preface.
Yes- several plot holes, see below with spoilers, but over all really well done. And huge props for this story being about choosing a mate for their personality rather than being a slave to the scent. Although it seems to play a part, it seemed like they had more control over themselves and choosing an Omega.
There is insta-lust but nothing uncontrollable (like other omegaverse stories) and not really insta-love, so I appreciate the story unfolding and giving us time as readers to get to know the guys and Nova. And the guys are great, each in their own way.
And the story was funny despite her trauma! Unexpected moments of humor.
At the coffee shop, after Tabitha is fired for stealing, Javier gets put to work: He gives the customer an apologetic smile. “It’s my first day.” She lifts an unimpressed eyebrow. “Cool.” Rolling my lips together, I stop by his side. He leans into my space. “I feel so demeaned. I love it.”
I forget which guy this was- probably Lycan: Taking a turn, he chances a glance in my direction. “Do you think I’m a horrible person now?” “Bold of you to assume I didn’t already.” I keep my face serious for a few seconds, then sigh. “No, I don’t think you’re a bad person.” --------- “Self-sabotage.” “I don’t believe in labels.”
and I appreciate Kiki (not sure of the connection but she is a friend. A girl. So Nova isn't just getting all her emotional support from the guys. I appreciate the balance. “What if I cry forever?” I ask, eyes watery. “You know, I read somewhere that tears are words too painful for a broken heart to speak.” She sighs and nestles closer. Strangely enough, her omega scent doesn’t bother me. “So I say, cry as much as you need too.” “Okay,” I whisper, letting them fall and simply trying to breathe through it all. Kiki holds me, her presence a steady reminder of what she’d said. You’re not alone.
With Javi: "The ropes crisscross over my skin, and while I had always thought something like this would make me look like biscuits exploding out of a can,"- see? funny. -------- “Three hot daddies. How does it feel to be god’s favorite?” Randal prattles on. “Will you pipe down?” I mutter as I push through the door. “One of us got piped down, and it sure as shit wasn’t me.”
I also liked how the author layered each guy's POV when it came to the Party at the end. Really smart touch. and the whole train thing at the end- I cackled: “Is that true?” Javi asks. “You’ve been wanting something from us?” “It’s not a big deal,” I say with a nervous chuckle. “Just a thought.” Rome rubs his jaw and glances at the guys. “Sounds like more than a thought to me.” He makes a train whistle motion. “Choo, choo.”
Spoilers/Questions: -I understand at the beginning, her first pack claimed her and they had a ceremony and all that, but what is not explained is how they chose her in the first place? Smell? Compatibility? One thing that is not clear is how they "choose" each other. -only 90 days for heroin addiction? After 3 years of using? And no follow up counseling sessions or support? Seems unsustainable but what do I know. -Lycan, meeting Carmine and not being suspicious that he is running payroll for a new employee named- Carmine? It is a very unusual name, so that was strange he didn't think about the coincidence. - blow jobs, Nova had a hard time with someone standing behind her, startling her, but she never balked at blow jobs?? After the abuse she suffered at the strip club?
This was my first audiobook (and any kind of book) from this author and I definitely will be checking out her other work, especially the interconnected standalones like Kiki’s story.
I connected with this omega so quickly, with how she was treated by her matched pack/alphas and how they sold her and her life was horrible with her addiction and what she was forced to do with her body. I am glad she got out and was starting new and had Kiki to help her out and be her rock when needed. We get to see her slowly fall for bosses and allow them in on her secrets and help her get through her trauma. I loved that the guys fall one at a time pretty much and she does the same. I enjoyed how different the guys were (I kinda wish the author went a little further with the kinks but the stuff she gave us was good). I felt for the guys and their process for meeting omegas. Dating is so hard and having to match with 3 very different guys is even harder. I loved their personalities. I thought they were endearing and quirky in their own ways, and their Dom sides were yummy. I loved the shibari addition, it doesnt get enough airtime/screen time I think! I enjoyed the smaller side plots (like Javi taking out Rome’s parents hahaha and Lycus singing and his trauma and abandonment issues). I loved that we got more relationship building in the beginning, and it made sense with her past and how they had to go slowly with her. It wouldn’t have made sense if it was a fast burn. The way they all fell for her was swooooon. I will say I thought it was rushed at the end when they knotted and claimed her. Like we didnt get dates or courting or anything. That would be be only main complaint/feedback. Overall I really enjoyed it and loved the cinnamon roll and lovely alphas for this damaged but far from broken omega, hiding as a beta in plain sight. Would definitely recommend if you love omegaverses and RHs ❤️
Narration was done well, I enjoy this dynamic duo, they feed off each other really well. I thought the male narrator did a good job with the guys and how different they were. He is the best with the flirty, funny, or slightly unhinged characters the most (based on listening to him a lot haha) and that was no different here and Lycus hahaha. Amazing job. I thought she did a great job as well with her performances. The heat was devastating, the baking and addiction cravings and workarounds hit me in the gut, and the way she broke down with them and finally let herself be happy was done perfectly. I felt the emotions in this book and couldnt stop listening. Fabulous job!
Now backtracking and going to listen to Kiki’s story next 😊
From all the books of this series, beside the first one, because that was then introduction into the world, this one is my favorite one.
I have stated in my former reviews, that I got annoyed of the step back in the timeline. And after the second book, I was sure there would finally be a story, that will slowly show the changes of the new Council and Camila gone and Reagan in charge.
But it never came. Instead, I got stories that were so similar to the scheme of the first book, like unwilling/denying Omegas, guys to see their goal through (one guy in two of the three books are in denial, either). And all have some sort of trauma, that they have to push through and let them say, they don't want children. And then the repeat of the Omega Auction, where all the FMCs meets and rehash the conversation again and again.
The premise may be different in general. But still it followed a theme.
So, I didn't think that book 4 would be so much different. But boy was I wrong. Sure, it is a somewhat ordinary scenario. I mean, it stays a bit with the theme of trauma and Omega in hiding is not really knew either.
But this time it shows the new world. No Camila, Alphas aren't separated in Low- and High Packs anymore (at least by law—there is always bias). Mixed relationships, even with betas, seem to be alright now.
I really liked Nova. She did go through a lot of nasty situations, and now pretends to be a beta. She meets all the alphas in different setting, without her and them knowing she is their employee.
I loved the guys too. They were all different in their personalities. With their own baggage, but it was all well-written.
And I loved it, how they meet her as a beta, build a relationship with her and come to love her that way.
That was perfect. Of course, the situation with the heat and them finding out she is an omega, was a bit unspectacular to me. But still, nothing that bad.
And the confrontations with the “villains” weren't really something to write home again, either. But still, I loved it. The spice was great. And even though, it wasn't directly talked about children. Only one of the guys thought about, that they don't want children. But they never asked Nova.
Really, there was a lot of good stuff in it. And I'm hoping the next book will be the same.
Would've rated higher but there was a massive vibe change a little over halfway through the book. The first half was really well done and created a really dark and moody world, which somewhat explored the trauma of the FMC. It went from dark and dangerous, with the threat of an ex-pack finding her, to insta-love and low angst.
Each of the halves I would probably give a 4 star to on their own, but when combined just didn't work for my reading experience.
FYI, there are no scent matches/fated mates in this book. I for one really enjoy this in my OV books and wish this was included. It didn't impact my rating overall since I appreciate when authors try to do something a little different than the genre standard.
I really liked the MMC's and the way they were introduced. Each one had a very clear personality and were all obsessed day one. Ly is 100% my favorite! The author really nailed the "loving asshole" vibe perfectly without it feeling like it was trying too hard.
Nova is also a really well built character as far as depth goes. She has a clear personality and I appreciated that the author evolved her from the standard character type...at least in the first half.
Most of the issues just either went away or got minimized.
I write reviews mainly for my own records/recollection.
Nova is feisty. I am sad that she lost herself but I am glad that she was starting to see pieces of her old self under the blanket of indifference she wrapped herself in. After what she went through, it is hard to trust in yourself but nothing that happened was her fault. She is stronger for having survived and came out the other side, even if a little cracked she was not broken no matter what she thought at the time.
I was a little sad for her that she thinks asking for help makes you weak and you need to handle everything on your own. Also that she had to change everything about herself instead of being herself. She had people who loved her and just wanted the best for her, which I know she was not used to having in her life. It can be hard to see the good when you are so used to the bad.
Onto the fun stuff, like the guys. They know there is something different about her but are not sure what. It reminds me of fate. She was meant to be with them so even when she was hiding who she was, they could still feel a part of her she was trying to keep hidden. It is hard to pick a favorite but I think Ly is close to the top. All the guys are "broken" in different ways from their childhood but I feel like Ly had the upbringing closest to her in a way. They all bring different skills and personalities to the table and it makes them work really well as a team. They all have each other's backs and it is a beautiful thing to see.
I can't say more about the book. I loved it and read it in less than 24 hours. I was excited to find out what happens and see a HEA that everyone truly deserved.
Heat & Deceit is my favorite omegaverse that Rory Miles has done... If I were a food critic and this book was a restaurant, I'd give it two Michelin stars!
There wasn't a lot I didn't love about this book. Rory Miles touches on hard-to-talk-about topics and brings it to life in a way you can't stop reading more.
What Interested Me Most/What I Love - The Trauma. Nova's mistreatment by her old pack to whom they sold her to. There are a lot of Omegaverse books with a plot similar to this one, but Rory brought the FMC's breakdowns to life. In those moments, the fmc is so thoroughly broken and has cravings and breakdowns that the reader can feel and sympathize with her. Her trauma was so realistic and well-written that those with Triggers would have to check in often. -How each alpha's personality differed. It was nice to see how Nova interacted with each alpha in a separate setting and how she met them all randomly on a different occasion/day. It wasn't staged or felt fake. The alphas aren't used to such a broken omega, refusing help or pity, but so visibly broken and self-loathing. It comes as a shock to them collectively, and they learn to adjust. Side note: one of the alphas is just as flawed/broken as the fmc, which is why Nova understood him on a level that no other omega did previously.
This was a med/slow burn. It was repetitive at times with how much we heard the FMC's feeling of unworthiness, but it's to be expected with her past trauma and addiction. Check the trigger warnings because Rory touches on topics that are dark and difficult to feel.
Tropes: 💮Trauma 💮hurt/comfort 💮Omega hiding as a Beta 💮Broken Omega 💮Human Traff*cking/Being sold 💮Addiction (doesn't relapse in the story but has strong cravings) 💮Likeable Side Characters 💮Patient Alphas
This book was not bad but it was not for me. If I read a darker dramatic Omegaverse I need the FMC to be fierce and confident. This particular Omega overcomes a horrific abuse. She was mentally, physically, and sexually abused. And also endured forced drug use. Because of this she was very scared, had frequent panic attacks, and was very self deprecating. I was happy to see this Omega get her HEA with some great Alpha’s but I don’t really like reading about these types of traumatized characters.
There were few other things that bugged me. The first was a small editing error in the beginning of the book.
The next was the way one of the alpha’s describes her physical attributes. He is says something like she has “a little extra around the middle”. I was like, what woman wants to be described that way?! I’m all for body positivity but to me if a man finds a full body attractive he wouldn’t think she has “a little extra around the middle”, she would just have a nice body. That term just gave me the ick.
The last issue for me was the spice. The spice doesn’t hit till around 75%. Then it goes full force like she’s making up for having no spice in the rest of the book. Yet, somehow the spice wasn’t super spicy (like I typically expect in Omegaverse books). I don’t know how to explain it. Also, this was the first Omegaverse book where the Omega stops her Alpha after round one because she was too “sticky”.
Overall, this one was not my jam. But I totally understand why people who like a dramatic Omegaverse love this.
Fantastic Omega read. Carmine aka Nova Thornhill is recovering from a extremely traumatic past of being an trafficked omega and from that time she ended up with an drug addiction (note -triggers listed at start of book). She is having to step out on her own for the first time in many many years of being controlled, it’s scary AF but she uses her inner strength to push through - everyday is a struggle. Kiki her best friend along with Kiki’s pack the guys from the Hell Hounds MC - Crow, Knox & Jag are all their supporting/protecting. Carmine/Nova meets the Grey Pack Alphas individually and then as a group. There’s Javi who she meets as her boss (owner of the business she works in) Javi is a businessman that uses his calculated strategic moves for revenge, Rome who loves to throw pottery and cares for people, then lastly there’s Ly - he is an ass but a loveable one with a heart of gold. Love their relationship journey, the mistakes, the highs and lows. Their steamy scenes are completely off the charts with knotting and heats 🥵🥵 Nova is a curvy women which I think is perfect, you can’t help but grow attached to her character as you move through the book. Randal is one of those characters in a book that is a standout - had a few giggles from his blatant disregard for privacy 😜 The storyline is well throughout, written with such detail and emotion. Overall I loved this book, this is the only author I read for omega genre books as it’s so well done.
Nova is living as Carmen, a beta barista. Not by choice but by necessity. She needs to be forgettable. Unfortunately for her, her three bosses find her anything but. She's everything they are searching for, if only she was an Omega. When her secret is revealed, they are determined to make her their own but they aren't the only ones. Her old pack has found her too.
While the 'Hidden Omega' trope is not a new one, this one was so well done. Nova wasn't pretending to be a beta so she could have a career or have more freedom than an Omega is allowed, it was a matter of life or death. I love a damaged main character but I am picky about how it's presented and dealt with. Her trauma was real. Years of captivity, torture, and drug use left her with PTSD. This was all handled with care and got my BH stamp of approval. She wasn't miraculously free of all symptoms but showed resilience and strength to reclaim her life. And in order to have the life she wanted, she couldn't be a lone Omega, hence the deception. Her time as a beta allowed her to develop relationships with her co-workers, neighbors, and bosses that she wouldn't have had if she had been out as an Omega. It allowed character growth and a relationship arc most Omegaverse books don't get, and I loved it. Nova's is definitely one of my favorites.
"You're not pretty enough for alphas like us.Even if you put on makeup, you're just not good enough"
Chapter one gives us a little of Nova's backstory. How her old pack sold her to Curtis as they refused to claim her and said she wasn't good enough. The next chapter jumps forward 3 years and now Nova after having being rescued from the hell her life was is making a new life with the help of Kiki from Knot my MC. Kiki gets her an apartment, a job, a new identity and puts her in touch with a contact to obtain heat suppressants. Goodbye Nova, Hello Carmine! All 3 Alphas from Pack Gray have parental issues so all the characters in this book have a past to overcome, it isn't all plain sailing. I think this book shows that with the right support and right people in your like you can overcome anything. Javier,Rome and Ly are all so different but compliment each other perfectly and I love the way they gravitate towards Nova even before they realise she is an omega. Every time I read a Rory Miles book it becomes my new favourite and this was no exception. I hope there are more books to come in this series as I particularly love omegaverse written by this author, keep them coming please!
This book was fantastic . As I've added more omegaverse books to my read pile, some just stand out more than others. And to me, this one really stood out. Firstly, the character development was absolutely phenomenal. The authour did such a good job portraying Nova’s struggles , thoughts and feelings that I felt emotionally connected to her within a few pages. The things Nova endured made me feel so much for her. Seeing her overcome and bloom into who she was meant to be all along was truly beautiful. Rome, Javi and Ly quickly became some of the top favourite men I have read in an omegaverse book. I really enjoyed getting to know them and seeing how they won Nova’s heart. This was such an enjoyable , feel good book. While it took time for these characters to get there, it was done so well and in a way that felt right, it fit the storyline and flowed really well. This was by far one of the best omegaverse books I have read. The plot is great, the characters are phenomenal , it's well written, the drama and spice and character growth was amazing. I cannot wait to see that this authour treats us with next.
