I really enjoyed this novel a lot. Not the best rebirth story but it was still a really good one. It has a straightforward plot and not very complex. The face-slapping moments will always satisfy me. I especially loved the fated lovers and unconditional love trope, and also the doting and devoted lovers. Those are a few of my favorite tropes and I'm glad to see those here.

Also, it's rare to see a sincere love and care between the royal siblings in a historical novel. And I mean, all the siblings, no exceptions. No pitting each other and wanting each other dead just to achieve power. Li Xiao might be cold and a tyrant, but he never harmed his own siblings. I really praised the emperor for raising his children in a way that he did. He never let the mothers of his children do the raising, but instead let the empress dowager to look after them herself, which is a very wise decision. They grew up literally together, and that's what builds the sincere feelings between them. If it's not for the poison situation that happened to Li Xiao, they could have continued that kind of relationship. But still, I can clearly feel the respect and love.

To be honest, there are actually some loose ends that I hoped got resolved. I was a bit disappointed but nothing really major that affected the overall plot. Also, the one thing that puts me off is Li Xiao's jealousy over his own son. I mean, he's a yandere who's obsessed with his lover, but jealous over his son? For real? Unlike some people, I don't really mind yanderes but to this point? I loved Li Xiao but definitely not that part of him regarding his son. I especially don't like the extra chapter because that chapter really brought out that part of himself.

Overall, this is still a worth read. It's not very angsty, it's even on the lighter side in my opinion, but I teared up a few times, not gonna lie. It's not very long, only 80 chapters and I even finished it in less than two days. Recommended, but not to those not really into yandere characters

BEWARE of SPOILER

In his first life, Song Song (SS) was mistreated by his father, stepmother and stepsiblings. One of his stepbrother even took his son, pretended to be his twin with the help of black magic and married his husband.

In this life, SS woke up on the night he was about to consumate with his husband to be. He begged him to take him away and Li Xiao (LX) agreed. It wasn't just SS who was reborn but, also LX.

The story then followed the revenge trope most novel had but, SS wasn't as evil. He decided only to retaliate if he was scheme upon. And so, even though he was angry with his stepbrother, he didn't know how to exact revenge upon him as he didn't do much worst yet in this life.

What I like about this novel was LX's family. He was the eldest son of the current Emperor. Because he was scheme upon by his stepmother, the former concubine now Empress, he turn psychotic and the only person who can sooth his was SS. Apart from LX, there was also four other princes from different mother. Their relationship was close because the Emperor made sure to spend time with his kids expecially his sons. So, LX always had a love-hate relationsip with his second brother, the Empress's son.

The novel was short, so it mainly focus on LX and SS and their son. I was hoping for extra on LX other brothers because they were nicely written. Alas, there was none.

A really well translated novel that was a pleasure to read. The translator puts explanatory notes in their translations (though if you're familiar with Chinese novels, some of them aren't necessary). The translated name is "Tyrant Pampering Wife Diary"

I love the interaction between the main couple. The main theme is how love helps one man overcome his craziness and helps the other grow in confidence. As a plus, the story is relatively simple and most of the plot holes are closed up or explained by the end. The one resolution I wish was more explicit is what happens to the former crown prince - he seems very pitiful.

Overall, an engaging read that I had trouble putting down (each chapter was rather long...)

DNF @ 73%

Plot: Yet another Chinese webnovel where a murdered protagonist with a shitty life gets sent back to his older body with all the memories intact and proceeds to fuck with people. And may I take the time here to express my utter delight at this being a whole-ass genre because yes please.

1. I started reading a story named Tyrant Pampering Wife Diary with the expectation that it was a tongue-in-cheek title and not an actual description of the book and honestly, that's on me.

2. It's basically a really fluffy romance. There's so much fluff. And the fluff scenes just keep coming one after the other. I think I may actually have enjoyed them if I wasn't in more of a "vengence and burn everything down" mood.

3. The main characters have little in the way of internal motivations. They have personalities- I mean , at least you can predict how they would react to a given scene and it's a low bar but they clear it. They have goals, sortof? Song Song wants to get pregnant. Li Xiao wants to be king. And while I think the translator did a pretty good job, I spent a lot of time wondering why they wanted these things as strongly as they did.

Especially Li Xiao, because from what I can see he has zero interest in the intricacies of governing and ruling. He's happy to sit around and pamper/tease Song Song like 90% of the time. And okay I know he's the Chinese Novel Perfect Protagonist Naturally Good At Everything but come on. I would not trust this guy with a kingdom.

I think a case could be made (and a strong case, even) that Li Xiao could be making a bid for the throne purely to spite his stepmom, which is definitely motivation I can buy from him. But we are three quarters of the way through the book and that's something I have to come up with myself when we spent like twenty repetitive fluff scenes where Song Song gets fed and teased so I'm not going to give the story credit for that.

4. I also think there were a bunch of genuinely interesting elements. The Empress (our main antagonist) is my absolute favorite character and I honestly think this whole story could have been made better if it was a rebirth fight between the emperor and the empress. The relationship between the brothers was something I was not expecting, and I wish we had seen more of it. It was honestly what kept me reading the last couple of chapters I managed to get through, till we got to yet another fluff scene and I decided it wasn't worth the aggravation.

The imperial politics plot was too thin on the ground- set up with a lot of elements with dramatic potential which are then used as little as possible.

5. Which brings us to the next problem. A weak politics subplot would have been fine if the romance was strong enough to counter that. Which uh- no. There really isn't much of an emotional component in this romance. No drama, no internal conflict- just pure fluff. Li Xiao is in total and absolute love with Song Song because of this one encounter they had in their past. Song Song is basically worn down by how Li Xiao is nice to him. And all of this would have worked great if it was coupled with a more intricate imperial politics/backstabbing plot! But as it is, both the subplots lack enough tension to keep the story moving forward. Something, incidentally, that could have been easily solved if we just spent a lot more time with the politics subplot instead of just randomly cutting back to the fluff every time.

And also, the more the plot does this the less cute the fluff becomes. I don't buy LX and SS being soulmates they barely have any interactions beyond the fluff scenes of them feeding each other and flirting and similar shit. I don't buy them having such strong reactions to each other because the plot tells me they do. Put some effort into it, goddammit. This relationship went from zero to 200 in like the first ten chapters and I'm still left blinking at HOW.

6. It's also particularly heterosexual-coded for a gay romance. Now let's be clear- the seme/uke Chinese equivalent (song/gou? Idek) prevalence means that this is always a problem with danmei, but usually the heterosexual coding happens mostly with the sex. But in this case, Song Song could have (except for like two plot points) been replaced by a very traditional coded female character and the story would have made perfect sense. Hes so sweet and charming and he cools Li Xiao down from his hulkouts. He is so delicate and sickly he often faints and needs to be carried to places. He's a supreme chef who for some reason starts a hotpot restaurant while he is... the wife of the eldest prince. The plot makes it so that a mysterious medicine allows him to get pregnant. I mean come on- danmei is sometimes refreshing because the main characters get to do things that female characters would be called bitches/whores/etc for and still be in a relationship. What's the point of making it gay of you're just going to do this?

7. This is possibly the first time an excess of fluff has driven me to DNF a book. I think this is going to be something I need to watch out for in the danxia/Xianxia genre. Does this count as that? Is imperial politics romance a different genre? Idek. I just want that bitchy Empress to get the spotlight like all of the time because honestly? Best character. She singlehandedly drove the plot forward.

This was so GOOD! I didn't see that coming. After checking reviews I went in expecting something else. The truth is I was hooked from the beginning and although a few details could be improved, it was not detrimental to my reading.

I'm obsessed with this couple ❤️! They are not the healthiest, but their dynamics made a lot of sense considering they are both mentally unstable. One's is possessive after loosing everything and being alone all his life, and the other seeks for stability and security regardless of his own happiness. They get to become each other's comfort and although they are married form the beginning you can see the growth that takes place slowly.

There's mention of cruelty and death (a few explicit scenes are not for sensible readers) so beware. I cried after knowing how their past life went, and it hurts to think about how they can't forget those cruel times.

I would recommend not to read the extra chapter. I think it's what bothered readers the most. They had a son who died young in the previous life, and since the beginning they wanted to enjoy their son in this life and protect him. But the baby is barely mentioned and once he's born, ML treats him coldly. He's jealous of his own son 🤡, which it's a recurrent subject in novels, but here it's on another level, not very cute, to be honest. The corporal punishment I don't approve of, but I can understand considering the time and place of the book. But tormenting him and stealing his mother away from him just because you're jealous is ridiculous 😂. I think the author messed it up with that.

And I know, this book have a lot of toxics shits. I know.

I Just Want to Be in a Relationship).

Me encantó.

This was pretty decent for what it was. Doesn't stand out too much in my memory but I remember thinking the ending was a bit weak. Or rather, the extras were the weak part.

Both parties had past life memories which was a good plot point.

The novel started pretty strong for me. It’s about Li Xiao and Song Song who both got reincarnated and get another chance to redo everything. In their past life, they had a tragic ending. It starts with Song Song “presented” by his evil father and brother to the mad king, Li Xiao as a way to curry favour. However, Li Xiao immediately takes Song Song back to his palace as his concubine.
Song Song remembers all the pain in his past life and he dearly misses his child. He’s determined to get pregnant 🫃 and meet his kid again. At first, both of them have their own motivations but they slowly fall in love with each other.

The novel is basically a lot of fluff and romance. Even though the MCs suffered a lot in previous lifetime, this one, they have a lot of happy moments and sweet revenge. I especially loved the parts where Song Song is obsessed with getting pregnant and Li Xiao being a tease. It was very sweet. 😻

That being said, the reason the book is getting 3 stars is mainly because of two reasons. First, the last chapters (from chapter 70), the character development felt like it went down. Up until that point, the book was so good but suddenly the way both MCs acted really bothered me especially towards their kid. Especially the extra chapter. That brings my second reason for the low rating, the punishment and neglect. It was especially disappointing from Song Song considering how much he wanted the child in earlier chapters and was looking forward to it. When the child is actually here, he actually neglected him and that makes me so sad. They both became so much obsessed with each other that they actually neglected their son. In my opinion, the author did them dirty. Also the punishment part was very disappointing to read as well. It’s a book with good potential and could have ended differently.

1.5 star is all this book series is going to get from me.

To be completely honest with you? There were some parts where it was highly satisfying, but I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy it even though I knew from the start that I shouldn't take this seriously(based on its reviews and stuff). I guess if you shut your brain off when you read it and treat it as something light and childish, its somewhat readable. I was quite amazed by how long this story was, consider that it literally revolved only around the little plot it had. The writing was childish and disappointing. And to think that this book was literally translated and published, ye.. it was beyond my wildest imagination. Who thought this was a good idea? But then again, if you are looking for something light, conveniently satisfying, I guess this book is for you. But it sure isn't for me. The plot was boring and dragged out, the characters were all bland with absolutely no personality, everything was cheesy to the core. And again, it shouldn't be 700+ pages long. Oh and one more thing. The whole time? I didn't even feel like I was reading a danmei. Songsong, for me, was written exactly how you would with any female character. The way he was treated, how he acted, how he everything, he literally was a female character. I literally had to remind myself that he was a man.

Rating: 4.5/5- Really well told story with an intriguing and satisfying plotline.

SPOILER ALERT!

I enjoyed this book tremendously until the last few chapters. I think what annoyed me was how horrible the Emperor was to his son. Like his jealousy was really unnecessary and so that just ruined it a bit for me. Especially because in his previous life he doted on the little Prince. His childishness was really off putting but I think it was realistic for his character which is what is important.

I guess being a mad king was truly what he was, coz his ludicrous jealousy towards his own flesh and blood was annoying AF! Uggghh what a jackass... otherwise I liked him throughout the first 70 chapters. The last ten threw mud on his face and left me with a bitter aftertaste.

Overall the MC had a well written character and his actions were always well thought out and consistent. Him getting revenge was so satisfying for me.
I also liked how there’s never really a reveal of the rebirth, and it’s automatically understood in silence between the couple.

The only thing I felt unsatisfied with was the little prince’s death- I never felt like that plot point was fully explained.

I would say this is a 4.5 star? As stated by the description, the novel's rhythm is pretty well-paced. It does not have many frustrating misunderstandings or unnecessary plots. As it's a mere 79+1 chapter, it's about a 1-day read.

The novel is mostly the sweet and fluffy interactions between MC and ML, which start right at the beginning of the novel. We get to see lots of face-slapping and digging of pitholes for the antagonists as per the standard of ancient imperial-type novels. Both MC and ML are really unfortunate, being plotted from childhood due to the greed of people (mainly from one family, actually).

Most plot holes and questions are eventually covered and explained as you read through the novel. I don't really have much to complain about tbh.

I liked reading the interactions between MC and ML, how ML is devoted to MC. As per the title, we get a Tyrant ML, and you should be able to expect an overbearing and protective ML. I really pity their son, who can't receive the affection of MC due to ML's jealousy.

Pretty good, simple, and straightforward read. Minimal angst, fade-to-black smut, just lots of fluff. Good one-time read, possible chance of re-read.

I think I expected a little much of this novel since I'd seen it in several recommendation lists. It's good, but not a favorite. The premise is fun - man yeeted back into his life a while before he died has just been given magic mpreg medicine to get him into Prince With Berserk Button Disorder's pants for his terrible family's political gain, but the plan gets derailed almost instantly because the prince has also come back in time. It has a mix of plot and romance, and lots of vengeance on those who had harmed the main characters in a previous/alternate life. Some of the vengeance seemed a little over the top, but it was at least reasonably deserved. The extra doesn't add much, and can be skipped - I agree with a commenter on another site that our was probably written before the end of the novel, and therefore doesn't match the level of character development from the end.

This danmei is good for what it is. A lot better than most danmei of this type. Even so, regardless of the fact that this is “historical”, casual misogyny is an ick.

Also.

The rating I gave this is the same as the one I gave to another similar Danmei called "The Rich and Honorable ChangAn”. But I JUST have to clarify, this danmei is INFINITELY better than that one. That fucking book made me so fucking mad during one specific arc, and IMO THAT GODDAMN ARC ruined the ENTIRE fucking book for me. It makes me ANGRY just thinking about that horse shit.

It’s a tragic couple who separately transmigrate to their past lives. Each walk different roads to prevent future tragedies. They are a united couple fighting against the evil queen and supporting greedy nobles.

The couple seems too bent on revenge. They exceeded their goals and are still not satisfied at the end with the face slapping. Entertaining through most of it. Falls short the last 10 chapters.

This is a mpreg historical Chinese novel, full of schemes and conspiracies, revenge and unconditional love. I loved this novel: the protagonists are very smart and they’re not flat characters(!!!), the plot is great and and full of fluff.
The only thing is that I would have liked a little more attention to Li Xiao’s brothers.

A rather sweet and fluffy novel overall. The characters were amusing and sarcastic which made for some great dialogue. The minimal action in the novel was well plotted and suspenseful. Despite not liking many historical novel, this was very intriguing with the palace drama (the tea is real) and was a pretty captivating read.

Great story but i really want to know what really happened to Li Yang. Is he dead just like in previous life? I really want to see all of the brothers gathered in the epilogue. But all we got is ML is getting better and he is jealous of his son. His son is so pitiful, he just want to spend some more time with MC before he grow up. :')

Edit : okay I’m not gonna finish this book. Don’t feel like it will worth my time🫠🫠

I don't generally mind a childish ml but I absolutely hate a father who's jealous of his kid. I ended up not reading the extra as I want leave this novel with the good stuff only and I've been told the extra would ruin that. Overall it made me feel every emotion of song song and it was very entertaining.

I thought it would be super angsty, so I kinda reluctant to give it a try. Thank god its not. Theres still some funny parts. Hm not really made it to my top five cause the story kinda reminds me of TYQHM, but still not as good. But its still interesting.
