Jax is hotter than the sun.

My boss is as sinful as chocolate.
I want chocolate but that doesn't mean I'm going to take a bite and ruin my diet.
I can't take a bite out of Jax, I would rather ruin my fitness regime than that!
But damn! That man is fine.

He barely even knows I exist but when he's near me I swear to god my ovaries jump!
It should be illegal to smell that intoxicating!

The other girls in the office get a smile and what do I get?
A blistering glare full of contempt.

I'm pretty sure Jax hates me.

Calia Quinn's debut steamy office romance will have you swooning for more...

From the description I had high hopes, the writing started off okay however plot wise I would have to believe both Jax and Cara must have multiple personalities for me to get on board with how their relationship escalated! She has worked for him for 7 years while he has been silently obsessing… there was minimal flirting/banter/tension one day and it’s straight to dirty talk in the middle of a business meeting ?!? .

“ How did I flip a switch so quickly? I know she’s confused, after all the only conversations we had ever had related to the company.”

Jax… WE ARE ALL CONFUSED.

This being said I did love all the characters, unfortunately the constant repetition of words and frequent mistakes took me out of this one…. Definitely had the bones of a really interesting read but the execution let this one down.

“There’s a fine line between desire and danger. And I think I’m about to walk through the flames of hell, just to see how pretty those flames dance around my soul”

Resisting Jax is a spicy erotica romance starring Cara and her relationships with five brothers. And I mean SPICY! There is literally something for every kink going in here. Office romance, enemies to lovers, knife play, blood play, 3 on 1, ass play, DP, somnophilia, breath play, touch her and die, non con, forced orgasms, master/slave… phew!

Unfortunately, it is a bit repetitive in places and due to fitting in alllll of that spice, I think the storyline does suffer a bit.

Needless to say, it does kick your heart rate up a bit! A solid 4 stars from me.

I picked this up unaware it was a debut novel, and I feel like it reads like you would expect a debut novel to read.

I loved the concept and the plot, but it’s all left at surface level and feels rushed and underdeveloped. Most of the conversations and character interactions are cheesy and repetitive. Quinn gives heavy detail on Cara’s friends but never elaborates on any of the brothers. Everything after 60% was bizarre and didn’t feel like it aligned with the story up to that point. I believe Quinn’s set this up to be a duet, so it’s possible some of the inconsistencies will be explored in the next book. I didn’t love this, but I did read the entire thing, so ⭐️⭐️ from me.

Honorable mention for some of the repetitive writing that drove me absolutely bananas 🍌 potential (although insignificant) spoilers 🆘 as these are quotes straight from the book ‼️

He finally released my body from the hold his cock had on my body. My body falls forward, and the pants still fall from my lips.

“Oh, fuck,” I cry out as I feel his fingers curl inside me. “Oh, fuck,” I murmur as his fingers curl inside me.

”Oh, God,” I murmur as I feel his cock slide through my slit. “Oh, God,” I murmur as he slides his cock in and out of me.

”Oh, fuck,” Jax hisses as he presses into me. “Oh, fuck,” Jax hisses as his fingers tighten in my hair.

”That’s it, kitten; you love that, don’t you?” Jax whispers in my ear. “That’s it, kitten; you love to be stretched open, don’t you?” Jax whispers in my ear.

”Oh, fuck, princess, cum for me.” Jax moans. “Oh, fuck, princess, cum all over me.” Jax moans.

”Oh, fuck, kitten, I’ve been dreaming about this moment for so fucking long.” He moans. “Oh, fuck, kitten,” Jax moans.

Resisting Jax: A Reverse Harem Romance

**2.5 Stars for me **

Honestly, I do not know what happened, the Book started off good.
The story was okay, and it was easy to read.
The smut was also great ...

and then ..

Somewhere along the 50% into the book it all just turned 180, the writing for each men became the same
*She is so tight* all the f-ing time -
I have read quiet a few RH and usually like them, I read dark romance so I can stomach just about anything but here some things just turned me off.

****
Champagne glass - Naah ( While this can be sexy, the way this was written and explained it was NOT- at least not for me )

I also feel like I couldn't really connect to any of them - the ending was rushed and it just became repetitive.
Some twists I didn't see coming as I didn't know there was any - and when it was revealed I was like , ' Huh What happened here?'

The Idea wasn't bad at all but the execution just wasn't for me.
If you enjoy RH and a lot of S*x - sweet, overwhelming and sometimes even questionable - Give this book a try :)

Such a good book! Captivating storyline and I fell in love with the main characters. Being a RH it’s hard to choose who I love most. Perfect predicament to be in with a why choose romance.

I will say that I found some aspects to be very repetitive and there were a few grammatical and spelling mistakes but if you can get past this then it’s an absolutely amazing read.

Thank you for sharing this with me, I’m very privileged to have received the ARC

The Kane Brothers, when it said this at the beginning I didn’t actually know what I was getting myself in for. So, I picked this on the name and thought it reminds me of another book I haven’t yet read. I was looking for something Dark, smutty with a bit of a story line.

That’s exactly what I received with this book. Also my first ever full book read on my e-reader!
Story
A girl has the absolute hots for her sexy smelling, mysterious grumpy boss. Little does she know what’s in store when an office dare almost gets her locking lips with a stranger things start to change.
Now one thing I liked about this book was it was very fast paced in terms of story line and you get to sort of know her mainly as a character. The story goes quickly from one to more than one lover lover and it goes dark, very dark. Routing for the fmc as always I found that I surprisingly enjoyed it more than I thought I actually would.

Now go be a good girl, and go read it ;)

Resisting Jax teetered between a 3 and 4 star rating for me! (So I'm going with 3.5 ⭐️).

For a debut novel, this was quite steamy and good! The *steam* was hot, hot, hot and there was plenty of it! There were some funny moments too that had me laughing out loud! And the suspense had me on the edge of my seat at times!

There were some grammatical errors and some jarring sentences, but I was able to overlook them so they didn't take away from the storyline!

Overall, enjoyable read

Where to start with this one. I was so excited for this book and it started really well. But ultimately it just went wrong. I enjoyed the beginning with the girls from work but as soon as they went away on their trip it just became so jumpy. It didn't flow well and there was too much going on. Sex sex sex with lots of language repetition. The storyline was messy and the scenes seemed to jump from one scenario to the other with no connection which made it difficult to follow.
The bones of the storyline were good but needed expanding on dramatically. Maybe too many different things going on in one story. If it was supposed to be a novella then remove some of the plot lines or turn it into a longer and more detailed book with more back story.
Too many loose ends at the end of the story. What happened to the characters? Wanted to love it.

Thank your for the ARC and I hope that given the opportunity to read more from this other I will be pleasantly surprised as she progresses.

So I just finished this book! And I won’t lie I’m a little disappointed, this book has so much promise and for me it just didn’t deliver. It seemed to go from 0-100 too quick and then just went back to 0…unfortunately it’s only a 2 🌟 for me

Thank you netgalley for letting me read the ark!
Overall, it was an okay book. I was looking for some smut, and boy, was there smut. Even for a spicy book, it lacked plot & characterization. It sets you up with the whole: my boss hates me, he'd never look my way, and then within a few chapters it just gets smashed to bits. There isn't really space in the book for actual thought, when most of the time they characters are finger banging. And there is a LOT of finger banging. They have sex almost constantly.
When it comes to the reverse-harem, it also does just okay. The characters appear, and then just instantly have sex with her. You don't really get to know anything about them besides the fact that they are hot. The one character who you would assume takes some time to warm up to her because hes told to be this scary guy who doesn't like to have sex with the women brought home, just has sex with her within a few pages and gets attached.
A few things that are a bit annoying:
1. He calls her kitten constantly. It's just kind of cheesy and honestly, not for me.
2. They say sinful constantly. Her eyes are sinful, or her thoughts were sinful, just so many sinful things. After the tenth one I was done.
3. The cover. It is a really cool cover, but it doesn't really show what is in the book. The cover gives haunting adeline vibes, and this was (thankfully) not as dark or gross as haunting adeline.
I will say the ending was neat. That's about it. There were a few grammar errors, but not so many that I disliked it.
If you want a book that has almost only smut, then this is for you.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was disappointing.

The story has potential, but it was really poorly executed. The writing lacks basic grammar and is littered with mistakes. An author should at least know when to use ‘You’re’ versus ‘Your,’ and some proof reading wouldn’t have gone amiss.
There are a TON of phrases that are used repetitively and excessively throughout, which makes for dull reading.

The elements of this that were supposed to be ‘dark’ were done fairly well, but I found that they still jumped all over the place and weren’t developed particularly well.

The sex scenes were over done and were really quite repetitive. Did we really need an in-depth description of how a tampon was removed pre-sex via an MMC’s teeth? It just felt incredibly cringe-worthy.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this one. It needs a ton of work.

Absolutely horribly written. Lacks passion, definitely lacks any sort of interest between characters. To many characters that really doesn’t make sense to have around with a deep annoyance. Story keeps jumping all over the place. Never know wtf is going on and where or why

"Sizzling Debut: Resisting Jax by Calia Quinn"

In Calia Quinn’s debut novel, "Resisting Jax," readers are plunged into a scorching world of reverse harem romance with the irresistible Kane Brothers. With a dark and deliciously brooding Jac at the helm, the tension is palpable as the plot unfolds, leaving readers craving more.

The dynamic between the protagonist and the Kane Brothers is electrifying, with Jac standing out as a captivating enigma. Despite his allure, readers are left wondering what darkness lies beneath his surface.

The one bed trope adds an enticing layer of intimacy, while spicy encounters, including a memorable business meeting, keep the heat turned up high throughout the narrative.

However, amidst the steamy scenes and intense chemistry, there are lingering questions about the mysterious house and the enigmatic man who contacts the protagonist.

Quinn doesn't shy away from exploring kink play, including knife play, adding an extra layer of intensity to the story. The complexity of the characters, particularly the enigmatic bear with his unresolved issues, adds depth to the narrative.

While the story is undeniably spicy, it also delivers moments of heartwarming tenderness, such as the pamper day arranged by the Kane Brothers for the protagonist.

Readers will find themselves swept away by the grumpy sunshine persona of Luca and the possessive nature of the MMCs, all while rooting for the protagonist to find her place among them.

Note: Readers should be aware of potential trigger warnings and are encouraged to express gratitude to the author for this captivating debut.

1.5⭐️/5 (rounded down to 1)

I recommend this book if you enjoy:
- VERY frequent spicy scenes
- Reverse harem trope
- DARK themes

I picked up this book because I thought the cover and the description sounded interesting, in addition it being the only book I had with me at the time of reading.

I didn't enjoy this and I don't like to leave negative reviews but this book has so many things I don't usually read about.

In the beginning of the book it does say look at the TW's with a link to the author's page but when you actually click on it nothing appears. I think they would've been helpful considering the spicy reverse harem scenes lead to all 4 BROTHERS FUCKING HER TOGETHER.. like are they not uncomfortable seeing each other all naked or basically nearly touching in that environment?? I was actually thankful that the author didn't take it that step too far.

My point is we hardly got anything about them and more about Cara's friends who are barely in the book anyway. I didn't connect to the characters either and I agree that the FMC has been through a lot which she didn't deserve.

Even though the brothers are technically all half-brothers to each other.. they're not nice people.
- Jax got boring even though the title of the book has his name in it and the FMC barely resists him.
- Elijah is quite charming, although dark and a bit nuts.
- River gives golden retriever energy and he was sweet-ish when we saw him.
- Luca is a straight up psycho and I hated him.

I didn't expect one of the twists which is why this wasn't a 1 star rating with the other being I was intrigued enough to finish this book to know the mystery about Oak Haven but other than that.. I'll probably not read the next book unfortunately.

Overall I somewhat enjoyed the book - plenty of steamy spicy scenes, met my expectations in terms of it being a reverse harm situation, and the 2nd to last brother was THE ONE that I fell in love with! The last quarter of the book as well was so interesting and kept me hooked until the very last page. It was a bit of a twist and not something I expected to be in this type of book, but I loved the dynamic shift of introducing this situation.

Unfortunately I did have some issues. The narrative was quite factual, fanfic style, repetitive wording and also pretty surface level with the characters, not overly fleshing out their descriptions or personality. It was very much focused on the spice and moving the characters quickly forwards towards the final plotline, so I would have enjoyed the pace to be a bit slower and exploring a bit more of the relationships and the people themselves. It seemed to jump very quickly from 0-100 and the different settings, and it was very repetitive with the use of nicknames for the female main character - I feel like this definitely could have been used a bit more sparsely and reflect the deepening growth of the relationships, rather than calling her the nickname every few sentences. There are also some trigger-warning-worthy scenes, which were not obviously displayed at the start of the book (my version had a Content Warning link to a locked website so I had to search for this information).

Also a pretty minor disappointment was the title of the book - it only mentions Jax, when there are three other brothers, and the female main character didn't do much resisting of him, or any of them!

*ARC received from Netgalley - All opinions are my own*

TLDR: Don't recommend at all - writing is horrifically choppy and entirely inaccurate throughout the story. Even the spicy scenes aren't worth suffering through the writing and spelling/ grammar errors. Please check the CW as well as there are pretty heavy themes, esecially at the end.

Resisting Jax starts off normally and there aren't many issues with the writing. However, it quickly starts to break down when Jax and Caras relationship switches. It goes 0-100 real quick and not in a good way, in my opinion and it shows in the relationship as there is absolutely no chemistry.

The addition of the brothers wasn't something I expected and it really didn't add anything. Often during the sex scenes it gets really confusing as the author herself seems to forget who's where and start to releport all over the place and the descriptives just aren't there to help you make sense of everything going on.

There is also a background plot but it really doesn't matter at all until the last maybe 100 or less pages and is pretty forgettable.

Don't recommend at all, there are similar books out there executed much better.

EDIT: Can we please stop making r*pe and sexual assault and dubcon be an essential part of "dark" romance!!

I have extremely mixed feelings about this book. The plot of the story was amazing the characters for the most part was amazing. I found Cara slightly annoying because if she had just spoke up a lot of things could have been different. I absolutely love Jax, River, Elijah and Luca. The bathroom machine with Elijah and Cara about made me vomit. Caleb is a psychopath. I would have liked to seen a conclusion of what happened with Essie. Now for the reason why I had mixed feelings about this book I felt like the vocabulary was lacking when it came to intimacy. I had to start glossing over that part which made me sad because that's one of the things I enjoy. The word beg was used 61 times, the f word was used 505 times and God or oh my God was used 121 times. When I say that it was repetitive and extremely annoying it would pull me out of the story because it was you so excessively in every intimate moment like there was no other vocabulary that they knew. In some ways it ruined the story for me.

✨️ARC REVIEW✨️ Resisting Jax by Calia Quinn
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you @caliaquinnauthor and @netgalley

I believe this book is now available to purchase.

I loved this book. The Kane brothers are 🥵🔥

Cara is the MFC and then you have Jax,Elijah,River and Luca as the Main MMC.

The spice level in this was through the roof from around 5% into the book and it doesn't stop throughout the entire book. Some of the scenes were hard to picture how it would work though 😂

It's a typical dark romance, grumpy/sunshine, where the guy will do anything to protect his girl...obviously x that by 4 in this book 🥵

There is a storyline which makes sense as well as the smut. The characters are superb and there was a twist I wasn't expecting.

Check triggers though as there is r@pe, abuse, both physical and mental and de@th throughout the book.

This was a new author for me but one I will continue to read.

Arc Book Review 📖
Reisisting Jax
3.4/5⭐️
✨No Spoilers

If you want a book that’s nothing but spice this is it. It definitely gave me all the feels. I love how each one of the brothers relationship with Calia is different, they all treat her a little different, love her differently. There wasn’t much plot in my opinion, I felt like there would be a chapter or two in a row of plot, but then 3 chapters of pure spice. I feel like the chapters that did have smut, it was a little repetitive. Don’t get me wrong, not a bad thing, I just would have appreciated a story line more throughout the book.

I did have a hard time, just a little with some of the errors in the book. Honestly they were so small, it was hard to notice some. It was also hard to know at times who said what line.

Overall, this book gets a 3.5 stars for me.

Resisting Jax by Calia Quinn
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Why choose, office romance, touch her and die, dub-con. (Pease make sure to read the CW/TW as there seems to be a little of everything going on in this book. )

This was a good debut novel from Calia Quinn, although a short read and rather repetitive, it is definitely worth the read for the spice if you’re willing to overlook a few things here and there.

We find ourselves following Cara and her relationship with the five Kane brothers. Miscommunication seems to be at play here and if only Cara had opened her mouth a bit more often, then a lot of issues could have been avoided.

If you’re not into erotica and/or a whole bunch of different kinks, I’d give this one a skip. But… if you’re dark and depraved and you love all things grey, then pick this one up for a quick read.

Genuinely so confused by this book. It actually started off quite decent but then the way the story developed was just crazy and made literally zero sense. Why did the whole start of the story concentrate on her relationship with jax and then it just not going anywhere at all? Where did the brothers fit into it all? Like where did they just come from and why was it just accepted as normal with no further context? Why did she just stop seeing all her friends that were so central at the start and then just never mentioned again? Why were all the brothers so obsessed with her when she literally showered zero substance or personality? And the smut was well….terrible tbh. It was soooo repetitive I ended up skipping most of it. Just generally a confusing read. Only reason I gave it 2 stars was because I did actually finish it but tbh wish I hadn’t the ending was insane

This book has so much potential and I really loved the concept but the execution just fell a little flat and it would have benefited from a really good edit to iron out the plot inconsistencies, grammatical and formatting errors and ensure the plot and character development.

I did love the storyline and the themes overall but the plot became a little muddled and tried to add too many tropes and elements. I would have liked more backstory on the Kane brothers and more development of their characters from the very beginning.

However, the spice was good and I did enjoy these scenes whilst reading. It does appear to be left open to a sequel which, if the points above are addressed, I will absolutely read as I am feral for the Kane brothers!

Cara has worked for Jax for seven years and she despised him because he liked all her coworkers but seemed to hate her.

In reality they has instalust but because of him liking to share with his brothers, he tried to keep his distance. Then came a trip to London where he finally touch and dominate her. In London she meets Eliah, a handsome man who awakes her body too.

When Jax finally tells her about sharing her with his brothers she doesn't see it happening but Eliah helps her.

This story has great potential because there are some mysterys and the Kane brothers are yummy but it's too repetitive for me in some splicit moments.

In Calia Quinn's dark romance debut, desire simmers like sinful chocolate as our protagonist grapples with the forbidden attraction to her irresistibly sinful boss, Jax. The narrative unfolds with a tension that's as deliciously forbidden as breaking a diet for a piece of rich chocolate. The office dynamic takes an unexpected turn during a business trip, introducing the enigmatic Kane brothers and adding an intriguing layer to the story. Quinn's steamy office romance keeps readers on the edge, exploring the complexities of desire, contempt, and the unexpected twists that redefine relationships. Prepare to be swept away in a tale where every glance feels forbidden, and every encounter leaves you craving more.

Cara’s boss Jax has every female in the office absolutely drooling over him day in day out, the out of the blue Cara is called to his office because he wants her to be his assistant on a trip to London.

Cara can’t believe her luck shes the envy of all her coworkers but can she cope with being in such close proximity to the outrageously good looking Jax?.

I found it hard to believe that after 7 years why would Jax suddenly declare his feelings for Cara and pursue her but I quickly forgot about that once things began to heat up.

The spice was amazing and so hot but the story was really lacking and was somewhat immature I felt and it read like some kind of teenage fan fiction, it could have been so much better but I still enjoyed it

This is Calia's debut novel and it is a why choose romance.

It follows our FMC Cara and our MMC’s Jax, Elijah, River and Luca.

It has a really good storyline/plot and has plenty of twists and turns and an ending that I didn't see coming. It’s also seriously hot & steamy. There were a couple of scenes I went back and read again because they were so good.

The only thing that lets this book down is the writing at times felt a bit choppy and there are some grammatical errors, but I was able to overcome that as otherwise it is a REALLY good book.

Thank you to Calia and @netgalley for the advanced copy.

I felt the premise of this book was really enticing. Something taboo with a bit of a plot.

However, there was something missing. I felt the tension was building really nicely, although some parts felt a bit repetitive. However, as soon as they left for London in the first few chapters it felt like there were key elements and explanation skipped. I felt lost as I read, not really understanding how the characters got to where they were. This continued.

The characters were entertaining, I just wanted more. So I definitely didn’t dislike the book, but the writing needs refinement to help flow.

I hope I can read more of Calia’s writing in the future.

Resisting Jaz by @Calia Quinn

Debut novel from Calia Quinn follows FMC Cara and MMCs Jax, Elijah, River, and Luca in this why choose romance.

First it was Jax, then Elijah, then River and then Luca... but if she wants one of them, she must accept them all.

Great storyline full of twists and turns with an ending I never saw coming. All our characters are hiding dark secrets from their past that collide in a way that could change everything.

The writing is good, but there are some parts where expressions are overused and can start to feel empty. However, overall, this was a great book, and there are lots of spicy scenes that could make your toes curl.
