Looking after outspoken comedian Jemima Charfield keeps her super-assistant Imogen Payne so busy, she barely has time for a social life. But when Jemima un- covers a real, live, shapeshifting beast, Imogen will need to surpass herself... or risk a murder charge for both of them!
Cryptids, comedy, catastrophe and carpet warehouses combine in a crisply witty supernatural thriller!Novelist and poet Sandra Bond has never dated a shape- shifter, so it’s fortunate that she doesn’t believe in “write what you know”. A former librarian, lawyer and craft brewer, she lives in her native Staffordshire where she keeps a safe distance from standing stones and other supernatural phenonema.
I really enjoyed this novel, it is set in the cut throat world of jobbing celebrity comedians and agents and assistants but this book is in no way straightforward. The characters are witty and entertaining and dialogue is beautifully written. I am jealous of Sandra Bond's skill and reporting what people are saying and making it seem so natural. The plot is surprising and really had me guessing throughout. I can't say too much more without giving away the plot. As well as being a good story the book accompanied me on my first few months being forced to commute into London by train and I'm very grateful to have it keep me going while I was getting used to the journey. Books are so much more than a nice tale, they really can keep your spirits up.
