The M-A-X Project

Rate this book
Feather Wells is a mid-teenage girl who, despite superpowers, has grown up with private tutoring on a series of isolated military bases. Now she confronts the challenges of a "typical" high school as she returns home to Satin Falls, where she readily makes friends, but her social naivety lands her in some difficult situations. One day in Biology class, she discovers her blood cell smear has an unusual number of chromosomes, compared with her peers. As she continues to explore what this might mean, with help from her new friend, Rob, she also feels attracted to Brian, who is a typical jock - on the surface, at least. The more Feather settles in, to school and to her old neighborhood, the stranger things become. It is up to her to protect her newfound friends as she and they explore a nearby decommissioned military base ... where there is evidence of odd experiments having taken place, with dubious ethical impact. Why have several law enforcement types either died or gone missing over the past 10 or so years? Who is this apparent twin of Feather's, of whom she knows nothing?

A fun ride of a read.

A rollicking and oddball first release from Mr. Walker. A surreal feeling twist on the "teen coming of age and discovering their hidden talents and destiny" genre. An entertaining blend of sci-fi/spy- fi and broody noir-like mystery tossed together with a quirky cadence. Looking forward to the next chapter!
