She stole his memory. Will he steal her heart?

Shrouded Sister Cassandra Fortin is a wannabe rebel hidden beneath midnight blue dress robes.

By day, she toils at the Temple, pulling the human memories craved by her Fae overlords. By night, she hunts through those same memories for treasures to steal, buying freedom for the mortal colonies’ least fortunate families.

When her fellow Sisters begin disappearing, the officer assigned to the case is the one individual who could expose her secret criminal history.

Good thing Cassandra stole his memory when he apprehended her during her most recent philanthropic robbery.

Officer Tristan Saros has always had a soft spot for mortals and a healthy skepticism towards authority. Especially his own. Now the irreverent, flirtatious Fae warrior has finally found the perfect distraction from immortal boredom - his intriguing new partner. Too bad about her pesky chastity vow. And why does she seem so familiar?

As Tristan and Cassandra team up to find her missing Sisters, their reluctant alliance transforms into a passionate, yet forbidden attraction. And during the investigation, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens to dismantle the five-centuries-long peace between their two species.

In order to save the Sisters and keep their world from the brink of war, Tristan will need to decide if his loyalties reside with Fae or humans. And Cassandra will be forced to choose between her safe, gilded cage or an uncertain, pitiless freedom outside the Temple walls.

And if Tristan ever recalls Cassandra’s crime? Well, that might just be the most dangerous outcome of all.

The Memory Puller is the first book in a New Adult fantasy series, featuring a spicy, slow-burn, banter-filled romance, a propulsive central mystery, and a found family of lovable, magical characters. Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Raven Kennedy and Carissa Broadbent.

“I am bound to the Shrouded Sisters by vows that I will not break. As long as I belong to the order, we can’t be anything more than friends.”

Or so she said.

The Memory Puller is a wonderful debut that felt like a love letter to fantasy romance and to the readers of the genre.

Swoon-worthy slowburn romance? Check
Fun banter between characters? Check
Found sisters/brothers trope? Check
Forbidden love? Check
Hot winged Fae males? Check
Forced proximity? Check

I really had fun with this book and absolutely adored the characters! The banter was 10/10 and I ate up every interactions the characters had. All the characters had great chemistry and I'm glad the author made sure to keep the interactions entertaining and not just limited to the main couple

You'll need a fan for how sizzling the slowburn is because I was kept on edge with Cassandra and Tristan. What makes it forbidden is Cassandra is a shrouded sister and I like how the Chastity Vow was the drawn line here because it's so fun to see how far the characters go and how they tip toe around it.

Don't let the Vow fool you, Cassandra isn't as innocent as she seems and as a fellow woman who has a thing of winged faerie men—like I get it girl. I really get it. But I have to give it to her for holding out that long because if Tristan showed up to me in real life, I would get myself out of that vow in a millisecond.

Also, there is barely any MISCOMMUNICATION. I am SO relieved. I always appreciate authors who don't resort to using miscommunication when it's not needed to create conflict, it doesn't feel natural to Cassandra and Tristan because one of their charms is they eventually become quite transparent to each other.

Needless to say I'm invested in Xenia and Cael as much as I am in Cassandra and Tristan, so I was excited when I learned that the next book will be multi-POV!

I really find the order of the Shrouded Sisters and their powers so interesting and unique, I want more.

Now the reason why I didn't give it a 5⭐️ was because I want to explore more of the world in the next book, so I hope it's more fleshed out. I want to be able to picture where the characters are easily in my head.

The author really dropped the bomb towards the ending with one word, and things are about to get a lot more interesting.

well this was very cringey, the dialogues were awkward and the insta-lust “i’ll protect you with my life” since page one sucked ass. it was entertaining, just wished they toned down the whole “cock” “breasts” “nipples” talk a bit. the first half was WAY better than the second half which shows how shitty it is by fantasy standards, i truly could not give a single shit about anything that happened at the end. i think it would’ve been less cringey if it was an urban fantasy.

if you want a simple smutty romance story with a bit of magic, no world building, bland characters and winged men, this is the one for you.

“What do you want, Tristan?”

“Now how is it fair that you know my name, but I don’t know yours?”

“You do know mine. It’s Sister Fortin.”

He gnashed his teeth, exposing his pointed canines. “Yes, about that. You left out a few key pieces of information when you were flirting with me on Saturday.”

Cassandra scoffed. “Flirting with you? You were getting ice for my chin, that’s all. You didn’t need to know that I was a Shrouded Sister. Unless you thought I was going to beg you to take me to bed.”

“Weren’t you?” he purred, curving his hand around her hip and bending down as if to devour her lips.

She dug her fingers into his silky knot of hair and yanked his head back. His eyes snapped shut and he clenched his teeth, sucking in a sharp breath. It was not a sound of pain.

Tristan’s throat bobbed in a dark chuckle as he wrenched his hair from her grip. “A Shrouded Sister who likes it rough, huh? Naughty girl.”

I have heard so many stories of elder millennials like myself who had a childhood passion for reading followed by a massive, years-long slump once adult responsibilities got in the way. And so many of those stories end the same way mine did: discovering the fantasy romance genre, DEVOURING authors' entire back catalogues (looking at you, SJM and JLA), and finding their passion for reading resurrected with a fiery, renewed fervor.

In my case, that resurrection arrived with an unquenchable desire to write my own. And The Memory Puller is the result of that desire, along with the delusional confidence necessary for someone who has never written anything more complex than product copy or a professional email to take on the task of crafting a 100K word novel.

This book gave me life, flamed the smoldering embers of my creative soul, and provided a sense of purpose in my peaceful, albeit mundane, adult existence.

I know that there is no chance that anyone will love these characters, this world, this story, as much as I do.

But I hope you will love it a little.

XO, Kris

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | A Gripping Fantasy with Spice, Action & Banter

I listened to The Memory Puller and honestly enjoyed it so much! I don’t usually go for fantasy audiobooks, but this one was incredibly easy to follow, making it a great pick for anyone who might struggle with complex world-building in audio format.

I love a forbidden romance—especially when it involves a badass FMC—and Cassandra absolutely delivered. She refuses to let anyone dictate her path, constantly proving people wrong with determination and strength. Her character was one of my favorite parts of the book, and I admired how relentless she was in her mission to find her missing sisters.

Then there’s Tristan Saros. The moment he was introduced, I was hooked. He’s confident, unapologetically himself, and when he and Cassandra finally start clicking? Good Lord, the chemistry was next-level. The spice was just chef’s kiss.

This book had everything: witty banter, high-stakes action, and a romance that kept me invested the whole way through. It was such a fun and engaging read, and I’d absolutely recommend it—especially if you love a strong-willed heroine and a deliciously forbidden love story!

this was so entertaining and silly. seriously, I read it in a single sitting.
the world-building and writing are uncomplicated and easygoing, it’s nothing new or great. no need for deep contemplation to comprehend or keep up. the playful banter between cassandra and tristan is pure gold – I couldn't stop laughing, they're downright adorable.
I'm crossing my fingers that the next book maintains this easygoing vibe. I heard it'll have multiple points of view, which isn't my top preference, but I let’s see.

this book is for those looking for a quick and amusing read that won't require too much thinking or commitment.

Loveee.

My most recent binged 5 star read is this book!! The Memory Puller is SO GOOD y’all. The male love interest (who is a Fae..with wings 😍) is absolutely swoon worthy and the female main character is basically a magical nun living a double life as Robin Hood. And if THAT hasn’t sold you, know that she erases his memories (at his request) and after a chance second meeting, the two team up to find her missing Sisters…and he can’t shake the feeling that there’s something incredibly familiar about her. Y’all…the chemistry and tension and banter. It is PERFECT.

This book had such a unique premise. It felt unique in a world with a lot of similar enemies to lovers romantasies. I loved the FMC, she gave female Robin Hood vibes, and our MMC is a shadow daddy. This was so much fun. I plan to read book 2 so soon!

This started off well and then turned into a bit of a flop tbh. I was just bored for the last 200 pages

The main characters ‘relationship’ was repetitive and boring, although I will say It started off with good banter and chemistry and was very much giving Nesta/Cassian vibes- but it just became really stale in the second half because they were infatuated after 5 minutes of knowing each other so I just stopped rooting for them because I didn’t care.. Intsalove is just not for me.

The ‘banter’ between the male characters was giving modern language teenage boys would use. For me, it was annoying and just takes me out of the fantasy world. Also ew.

It was written well, the plot was somewhat intriguing up until a point- it just turned out not to be for me.

Don’t think I would recommend, but you do you💫

Spice: 2 🌶️

Read this if you like:
- fae
- forced proximity / reluctance alliance
- slowburn romance / tension / banter
- “who did this to you?”
- mortal FMC living in a world where her species is hated
- main characters forced to work together but secretly to want to tear each others clothes off
- swoonworthy MMC making FMC question her chastity vows 🤭

This book had me blushing and kicking my feet so much because the tension/banter is literally CHEF’S KISS.

I flew through The Memory Puller, absolutely captivated by the main characters who had me giggling, the intriguing world building, and the mystery at the center of the plot that had me on my toes. The ending was such a twist that I did not see coming and has me anxious for book 2! I also loved how cozy and charming this book was. While there are high stakes, there were also small & soft moments between characters and the setting that made this such a cozy read.

Overall, I loved this one a lot and will be immediately jumping into book 2!

I really enjoyed this book. Within the first few chapters I was pulled in right away.

THERE MAY BE SPOILERS. Do not open a spoiler tag if you don't want to be spoiled!

Cassandra is the main character and first POV, she is a Shrouded Sister who is pledged to serve, to stay chaste and modest. But she likes to bend/break some rules. She is not allowed to have sex, because she would be kicked out of the temple. Being a Shrouded Sister she is able to pull memories from others, human or Fae, and able to view memories if they had been contained. It seems this is the only magic for humans in this world, and it appears to be heavily regulated.

I love her character. She's willing to steal items to sell so she can help families that are struggling, kind of like a lone Robin Hood. She's cute because at the same time she's a thief she can't stand swearing, or hearing other's swear because she's doesn't want to harm "virtue" further than her stealing does. I really enjoyed her growth throughout the book, and the choices she makes.

Tristan is the MMC and the second POV. He is a Vestian Guard on the island and has been there for 200 years? (I think.) He is a winged fae with dark feathered wings that can camouflage him and others within. He appears right away and is curious about the "Tiny Thief." Tristan has a history that is hinted at with him having visited the sisters to have a memory removed in the past. He also has a history with the leader of the island/his boss, which is kind of sketchy but he seems to have recovered, mostly. There are hints to his history on the continent, and

I like his character, because he's happy, fun, and outgoing compared to a lot of books where the MMC is a brooding male who has a secret heart of gold. Instead Tristan shows that he cares about Cassandra and those she cares about without all the brooding. BUT he does have his secrets.

It is a little bit insta love with these two. They are both obviously attracted to each other from their first meeting. The tension is there though, with her vow of chastity and the threat of having to leave looming over her head. The banter and back and forth between them is awesome, they're adorable and I love them together. Relationships between fae and humans are limited because they still aren't deemed as equal in this world. There are also issues of her mortality and his immortality, which they both think about in their own way,

It does get quite steamy between the two.

I love the world. We only see a small portion of the world which is on a large island where humans are allowed to live. Humans are not allowed on the mainland/continent without approval from the Emperor. But on the island Fae and humans coexist.

There are issues with this because Fae historically would brutally feed off of human emotion without consent, as they were deemed lesser. With the invention of Delirium made from memories Fae no longer need to feed from humans leading to the Accords between human and Fae... but delirium is deemed insufficient by some Fae. Supposedly this is a recent thing in the way of immortals, and there are Fae alive who remember the before and wish to go back.

There are also mention of multiple different species of fae, from animal shifters with "bi-forms" the Abbess is a polar bear shifter, but there is also mention of goat, badger etc. I am really excited to see the differing species in future books.

The overall plot in this book is a mystery, Cassandra is trying to find out what happened to two missing sisters. Tristan is eventually involved along with his friend once a "higher profile" sister also disappears. They look for clues within memories and work together to figure out what happened.

Overall, I think this is a great first installment to a series and I cannot wait for the next one!

This book was so good!! 😍😍 This is the first book in a NA fantasy romance series and perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and The Serpents and the Wings of Night. The story has a spicy enemies to strangers to lovers trope, a cinnamon roll MMC, forbidden romance, different types of fae and magic! 🖤🔥

It follows the story of Cassandra, a Shrouded Sister, who takes memories from humans for the Fae. She is feisty and has a rebellious heart, a sort of Robin Hood of the humans, taking from the rich and giving to the poor. In this story humans sell their memories in order to have enough means to survive. If they sell too many memories… they might obliviate and become a shell of emptiness. One night, on her latest heist to steal a necklace to give to a human family in need, Cassandra gets caught by a handsome winged Fae Guard, who makes her body feel things that she shouldn’t, after all, she took a chastity vow…

AHHH Tristan is so dreamy 😍🖤 add him to my book boyfriends list! He is compassionate and one of the few fae that actually want to help the humans. They feel an instant attraction towards one another, but after Cassandra takes his memory of her he doesn’t know who she is… but he has a feeling he should 👀❤️ this book was addictive from start to finish!!! An absolute must read for Romantasy lovers!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review

I don’t even know where to start this review because the book was so bloody good.

I laughed, screamed and stared at my wall for 5 minutes pondering some of the moments in this book because LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, this is CRACK. It has all my fav tropes such as fae, forbidden romance, slow burn, who did this to you, she’s mine, forced proximity AND AN MMC WITH WINGS! Did I say that loudly enough? WINGSSSS!! SIGN ME UP! Tristan is literally the LOML.

I loved the characters so much, I am fully invested in them all, and the FMC is a little daredevil hehehehe. The friendships are so well written, the chemistry made me pant and the bromance? hehehe nah, I loved the friendship between the Tristan and Cael.

The writing style is completely up my alley, I followed along so easily and was able to understand the world building really well! I got ADHD and this book just flowed so well I was very heavily invested.

Heavily recommend this book if you like the following tropes and want a banger of a time. Also SPICE level was delicious, it is a SLOW BURN so spice is 2.5-3

4.5 stars, loved this so much! A forbidden romance between a fae and mortal who team up to solve a mystery - which you, know, turns out that they uncover big nefarious schemes. This read was fresh, had great banter and very unique magic system- but most of all I fell in love with Tristan and Cass!

“For all the misfits who love to bend the rules. And live to break them.”

Ok kids, sit down. We need to talk about this book. This came to me as a rec and by God I really needed it. I’ve been in a bit of a slump and this book has pulled me right tf out of it. It’s hilarious, the banter is incredible and it’s not just from the MC’s.

“I have had enough of you today, you overgrown pterodactyl! If you don’t show this building some respect, I will throw you out on your perfectly formed ass!” -Zee

Cass is a sister in which I’m attributing to very much like a nun. She has a chastity vow and works extracting memories from people- a task given to the shrouded sisters in a during the Accords. Extract too much though and it’ll lead to obliteration. Tension between the Fae and Humans have been running high for a long time but Trophonios managed to broker the Accords. The Fae would feed on human memories, made into a drink called Delirium. This stopped the fae from bringing humans to extinction by overfeeding and really, the humans had no other choice.

Cass has always bent the rules, she helps families where she can to prevent the obliviation. Our little Robin Hood sets out, stealing from the rich and siphoning off the profits to those who need them. Wiping her memory of the heists after so no one can ever use her memories against her.

The whole things going great actually. Until Tristan catches her. Our winged Fae, he’s flirty, he’s funny, he’s so cute! I loved these two together, frequently laughed reading their interactions. As the plot unfolds, they’re thrown together. Hunting the pieces of a mystery that was far bigger than either of them anticipated. And boy do things heat up between them. Cass is adamant she’s keeping her chastity vow but there’s certainly some bending of that. 👀

The authors has done this so well that it’s not just Cass and Tristan I’m invested in! The secondary characters, Xenia (Zee) and Cael have my attention too! I want to see how this plays out. I’m wholly invested in this.

If you’ve not read it yet, please go give it a try. I hope you fall into this rabbit hole with me.

Welp, this is every single I love about romantasy, stories, just reading in general all rolled into one fun and amazing book! Stumbled across this one and so glad I did. Loved the characters - FMC is smart and fierce and MMC is a witty, powerful, winged male - what else do we need? I feel like I smiled throughout this whole book - completely enjoyable start to finish. Props to Kris the author as I feel like this is such a UNIQUE story which I have been missing! I absolutely cannot wait for book two. Highly recommend!!

The sexual tension and banter between not only the main couple but the side one was absolutely gorgeous. I loved it to bits.

I will say that the whole time I was reading, I felt like Cass was giving a lot more of herself to the relationship than Tristan. It made me...uneasy and kind of annoyed with him. He basically knows everything about Cass' life but by the end she knew nothing about his.

For example, he had issues with the place that he worked - with a boss that was sexually harassing him. I knew about it from the chapters that centered on him but Cass definitely didn't. That doesn't even encompass the secrets that he was keeping until the very end of the book so... It just upset me. Even though there were a lot of actions yo make it seem like he wanted Cass the fact that he wasn't able to share the basest worries with her really agitated me.

This book was everything I want from a new fantasy series
✨Sassy, generous FMC with a ribbon hood complex
✨A winged detective/officer with a dirty mouth
✨ slow burn (stupid Chastity vow)
✨banter
✨ cool magic
✨a mystery is afoot!
✨spice training
✨ nicknames (bird man, daredevil)

Like I could barely put this down long enough to work my stupid adult job. I am obsessed with Tristan and how obsessed with Cassandra he was. I loved the little ways the connected and shared with each other. There was this air of mystery and shadow over the entire setting and plot that has you guessing till the very end. And the magic was so fresh and unique. She literally pulled memories from people and saves them!

I can’t wait to read book 2 I wish it was an audiobook because the narrators got this book did such a great job.

Yessssss! Where most of the romantasy series feels monotone these days, The Memory Puller felt fresh and unique.. I would say that the world building and how things worked in said world needed a bit more explanation, but that hardly takes away from the story telling and voices of the characters.

I am OBSESSED, loved this one soooo much!! I have added it officially added to my favs of the year. This is perfect for lovers of spice, enemies to lovers, Fae, and magic!

I want to say this is would be a great read for lovers of The Serpent and Wings of the night with a pinch of Ember in the Ashes along with Grave Mercy, 3 stories are absolutely love. This is the story of a nun playing the Robin Hood of memories. She literally steals memories from high up people to help the poor, during her rebellious ventures she meets Tristan, a sexy Fae… who might I say is absolutely intriguing 😍… yup new book boyfriend. Cassandra, our MC has a chastity vow, which has her doubting her life decisions.

I absolutely loved this world. The author pulls us into to this magical realm with beautiful scenery and plotting. The twists and turns of this story had me on the edge of my seat. Definitely one of my fav reads this summer! I am aching for book 2!! I can’t wait 😍

Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a beautiful copy! All opinions are my own.

Wow i finished this last night and i have still been thinking about it all day. I was so excited when i got the email that i’ve been chosen to read an advanced copy of this wonderful book, so thank you so much! This book starts off with mystery and suspense and i love books that hook you in right from the beginning. I may be biased as the main character and i have the same first name but Cassandra is a badass and i really loved her as a main character so much. We oddly also had several things in common so putting myself in her place was easy. Tristan? that’s my new book boyfriend like i was giggling and kicking my feet like an damn fool while reading their banter and sexual tension. This is how you do a good not boring slow burn!! I loved that the author had an index of the different types of fae and other important information in the beginning although i didn’t need to go back to it bc the world building was done so well. I am so impressed and was really taken by surprise by this book, it is in the running for my favorite book of 2023! If you want a fast paced and fun book with magic, badass mmc, sexy winged fae male and a complex mystery then this one is for you.
Thank you again Kris for allowing me to read your wonderful book and for the love of god please release the next one soon!!! i need to be back in this world!

I feel like I have a lot to say about this book, and none of it will be well thought out or written in any logical order, so buckle up.

Let me start by saying I enjoyed diving right into the fantasy of this story. I liked some of the things that made this plot unique, even if there weren’t a ton of new ideas in here. The story had a good grip on me throughout, and I’m glad I waited until the second book was released to read the first because PHEW that cliffhanger! It was good stuff. I liked a lot of the banter that happens between the characters. It’s spicy and flirty and sometimes silly, but I could see where some might think it was just a little *too much*. This is definitely an insta-lust book, but I still rather liked the two main characters together. Tristen is written pretty much exactly as a mix between Cassian, Casteel, and Hunt. So, what’s not to love, right?

I’m gonna let that above statement lead me right into my first complaint. This book really just felt way too similar to CC and FBAA with a little bit of every popular romantasy series sprinkled in. It’s like the author just took all the things she liked from each and mashed them together. Is it successful? Definitely, but it didn’t feel original enough for me to say stood on its own. That being said, part of the reason I enjoyed this so much was because it was giving me major CC nostalgia… which at the end of the day really just makes me want to read CC over again.
I also have an issue with a bit of the world building. The author was descriptive and I could picture the world clearly, but the whole fae powered vs non magic spaces made me wonder what time this is supposed to be taking place in. One minute I’m thinking this is old world fantasy because they’re fighting with daggers and none of the sisters have any tech and do their research with books in libraries and then BAM we’re hit with a scene where someone uses a finger print scanner to get into a cell. I understand the concept, but I really wish the author just picked either old fantasy or urban fantasy and went 100% in one direction or the other.
I know this is meant to be a spicy story, but it seemed like the characters were just way too horny all the time. They could have a serious, sobering conversation and then two seconds later the sexy banter is back. The MMC was a flirt and just came on way too strong. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the fact that the MMC seemed to have slept with anyone and everyone before he meets our FMC. I get he’s like hella old, but damn. Having everyone fawning over him got kinda old. My last complaint in this area is that when the FMC gets jealous (honestly I would have been too), he thinks she’s being insecure. Then he turns around and gets jealous and snarls at another dude for even looking at the FMC. I get this is supposed to be a possessive thing and it’s meant to be hot, but it would be more hot if it wasn’t so one sided.

That was a whole lot to say, but at the end of the day I enjoyed this book and I’m still going to continue this series.

THIS BOOK omg I blew through it and loved every moment. Cassandra is fantasy FMC at her finest and TRISTAN?! MMC perfection. The Memory Puller earned an EASY 5 star rating from me—SUCH a spectacular and super unique fantasy romance with the best concoction of so many of my favorite tropes!!

What to Expect:
—Forbidden Love
—Slowburn Buildup
—Nicknames
—Winged Fae MMC
—“Who Did This to You?!”
—Found Family

Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed above are entirely my own.
