LOCATION/SETTING:
The story is set in modern day Wyoming. The protagonist lives on a ranch that is owned by the Ulrics, a wealthy family in the place.

MAIN CHARACTER:
The main character is Lia. When she was 4 years old, her parents were killed in a car accident, so she was sent to foster care. She lived all over the country, but she was always sent back to the state. Now, she lives with her alcoholic foster father John at a ranch owned by a rich family. At the beginning of the story, she is starting her senior year, however, being the loner that she is, she does not have any friends. Physically, she looks very different, most especially her eyes. She has large blue eyes, and in the left one, there is a white pigment that looks like a half moon. The doctors diagnosed it as heterchromia, which she has inherited from her mother. Not only that, she was also diagnosed with Lycanthropy, a mind disorder that causes one to believe they can transform into an animal. In addition, she has terrible nightmares. Sometimes she even finds herself lying outside her house naked.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
** spoilers ** The story begins at the start of Lia's senior year. She lives in the ranch owned by the Ulrics. She carpools with Emi, the only girl out of the eight Ulric children. In school, she was invited by this hot shifter named Ryan to join his group for lunch. Being the loner that she is, Lia declined. But Ryan was persistent, and eventually Lia agreed to eat lunch with Ryan and his friends. The two became best friends. (Oh yeah, this is one of those stories where the best friend falls for the girl, but the girl does not feel the same way.) Anyway, one day, Lia was invited to this gathering with Ryan's family, and she found out things about herself. You see, Lia is not a typical teenager. For one, she looks really different. And second, she is the reincarnation of Zaria, the immortal wolf. Then she meets Emi's handsome brother Lyle. Lia instantly, and I mean instantly falls in love. But there is one problem, Lyle is a Lobison. A Lobison isn't like a shifter, where only the body transforms. When a Lobison transforms, he loses his human side. In other words, Lyle puts Lia in danger by just being with him. Enter Adam, a vampire and the enemy of Lyle's family. He also has been waiting for Zaria's reincarnation for ever, and it happened to be Lia. He still loves her, and will stop at nothing to get her back again. Now Lia is basically torn between two hot guys! ** spoilers end **

LOVE:
The book is sort of creepy - a good sort of creepy. The world created was dark, however I was mesmerized by it. It has an air of mystery. I also liked the fighting scene near the end of the book. A great part of the book was about romance and history (Lia's history as the immortal wolf), and the the action scene sort of gave the book a balance. I also liked the ending. But then it wouldn't be right for me to spoil things for the readers.

NO LOVE:
I did not like the way the characters fell instantly in love. I feel it was forced, and artificial. It might work for other readers, but not for me. Those kinds of romances in young adult novels are just too much for me. The characters just met, then five pages thereafter they are kissing passionately. Move forward two pages, they are professing their undying love.

The Rising Moon was a interesting werewolf novel. I loved how Nilsa created a story based on the Cherokee tale that is at the front of the novel. I found it was a unique approach to the werewolf lore. We also get a mix of vampires and witches in the story and I liked how Nilsa connected everyone. I liked Lia’s character she was relatable and written well enough that when she was being told information from two different sides as not to trust the other side I felt confused like she did on who I should trust. I personally liked Ryan over Lyle and Adam. I think it’s the protective friend quality that I liked about him. I also totally picture Adam like Dave Anders (John Gilbert - Vampire Dairies or Adam Monroe - Heroes) but that may be just my crazy mind.

The Rising Moon is a must read for werewolf lovers.

I was recently given the opportunity to read Nilsa Rodriguez’s debut novel The Rising Moon for a blog tour in which I participated in and found it to be an enjoyable read, I am a huge Werewolf and Shape-shifter fan so I was keen to see the direction in which Ms Rodriguez would take her story.

Angelia (Lia) Lafosse lost her parents at a young age and after being in and out of foster homes for most of her young life, she now lives with her surrogate father John, who after the death of his wife has turned to alcohol for solace.

Lia has always known she was different, she is a loner, an outcast amongst her peers; she is an interesting and complex character and definitely has her issues, her biggest being that those around her usually die.

When fellow student, Ryan Woodruff befriends her, she finds out more about her history and her past - she is a werewolf, with immense powers beyond any of her kind and a reincarnation of the last immortal werewolf, Zaria – which comes to explain the unusual dreams she has experienced on and off since she was a child.

With the recent death of the Ulric grand-mother, who are a family of Lobisons events are set in motion which places Lia and those around her in immense danger – people she believed to be her friends are now her enemy and out to destroy her for the abilities she holds including Ulric siblings, Emi and Lyle – although Lyle has fallen deeply in love with Lia.

I enjoyed the dark and mysterious feel The Rising Moon had; I liked the differences between the werewolves and the Lobisons and the history surrounding their feud. The action scenes were entertaining and detailed.

What I didn’t like: I think I would have liked to see less romance and more character development and information on the old legends and the abilities Lia had inherited – I don’t feel they were explored enough; the romance/s seemed to take over from the main storyline for me. There is actually a love square of sorts; it starts with Ryan, then to Lyle Ulric and finally Adam Ambrose.

Adam and Lia’s love felt very rushed, I felt there was more a connection between Lia and Ryan - the dialogue, his protective streak, and meeting the family etc. he seemed a better fit relationship wise for me. Adam and Lia sort of fell together due to a shared past, I didn’t feel any chemistry between them.

Ms Rodriguez has weaved a fascinating story, the history; supernatural beings, locations etc. were all vividly detailed and intriguing but I just felt the insta-love declarations to be a tad too much for me.

A dark and intriguing debut with a fresh look into werewolf lore!

Since she can remember, Angelia Lafosse has known she would never lead a "normal" life. Growing up with a foster families after losing her parents in a car accident has left Lia with questions about her past. When the handsome Ryan befriends her at the start of her senior year, Lia begins to learn of her true origins, which include the supernatural, reincarnation and help explain the vivid dreams she has experienced throughout her life. With that truth Lia soon comes to realize those closest to her are have become her enemies, putting her life and second chance at love at stake.

The Rising Moon intertwines great elements that make for an fascinating read: a reincarnated werewolf heroine, a forbidden romance, a family set on revenge and more supernaturals in the form of shifters and vampires. Our heroine Lia is a loner who slowly opens up to Ryan as their friendship develops and she is told she is a reincarnated werewolf, learns he is a shape shifter and others around her are supernaturals as well. If that isn't enough to deal with, Lia is torn between her attraction to the werewolf Lyle (her friend's brother) and the seductive vampire Adam who everyone warns her of but she's drawn to. While I'm not one for hysterical heroines, I would have appreciated Lia to question all these revelations surrounding her a bit more than she does...I was missing that fieriness that you tend to see in paranormal romance heroines from her, but also understand she's quite young.

Three charming but completely different alpha male characters are introduced throughout the story, but I feel only one was truly executed, Ryan's character. I was left wanting when it came to Lyle and Adam, I would have loved more of a back story regarding these two and feel the romance between Lia and Adam was a bit rushed for my liking (even with Lia being reincarnated and all). The constant mystery and suspense make up for the rushed romance, keeping you entertained and wondering what comes next. Nilsa has created a mysterious and dangerous paranormal world of legends, magic and supernaturals worthy of praise and a sequel I hope will answer all my burning questions!

Wow! Firstly, I absolutely adore cover for this book. Don’t you think it’s gorgeous? It’s definitely one of my favourite Indie covers yet. I love it!

Anyway, I’d seen this book pop up over some of my favourite blogs for a blog tour and just knew I had to read it…and overall, I did enjoy it.

Lia is a high school student who doesn’t have many friends. She always tends to keep away from other people and has many questions about who she truly is because she was orphaned at a young age. When one of the hottest guys at school fast becomes Lia’s best friend, he helps her unlock her family secrets and soon she discovers that everything is not as it seems. Suddenly her life is filled with werewolf reincarnation, vampires and a love triangle that is powerfully dangerous.

I really enjoyed this novel. Nilsa Rodriquez really did a good job with creating an interesting and unique storyline. The concept of the novel was amazing; I loved how the werewolves, vampires and witches were all tied together. The new take on Werewolf/Vampire relationship was awesome and interesting and I also really liked the Werewolf/Werewolf relationship but I wish we’d seen more of Lia and Lyle together as wolves. The love triangle was a highlight for me, both male characters were totally swoon worthy and it was hard for me to choose between them but I think in the end I was Team Adam. I was totally Team Lyle until Adam came on the scene and stole my heart.

What let the book down for me was the writing. I don’t think Nilsa did a bad job but there just weren’t enough descriptions and not enough emotion during the story and it almost felt choppy. There were some important scenes that I really enjoyed and again, I loved the concept of the book but I couldn’t enjoy it to its full potential because of the writing.

Overall, The Rising Moon is a fast paced, exciting and interesting novel. Despite my three star rating, I liked the book and I think everyone should give it ago.

Thank you to Nilsa Rodriquez for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this book sounded really interesting, a twist on the current paranormal genre so I accepted a copy. I have a pile of books to review so it took me a while to get round to this one, but last night I sat on my computer and thought 'I have ten minutes to spare, I'll make a start.' well instead of sitting for ten minutes I was there for almost an hour and had read 100 pages. I had to leave it there as it was getting late, but really wanted to read the rest so I opened it tonight and have finished it. In total it too me just over 2 hours to read.
Lia has always been different, prone to nightmares and night wanderings she was passed through many foster homes as a child. She has more control now but still knows she is different. She meets a boy named Ryan at school, something about him is different and for the first time in a long time she is opening up to him and making friends. Now part of a group, Lia can feel her life changing, but what if having friends only brings more danger. Ryan and her friends help Lia discover more about her past and what she really is. This book offers a great mix of werewolves, witches, vampires, magic and mystery and there is even a love story. It really does have everything.
The writing is easy to read and flows well, with good pacing and descriptions. `the imagery is good and i could picture everything that was happening. Ryan is sweet and caring, whilst Adam is strong and mysterious. I like Kima, you're never quite sure where you stand with her, but you see her grow throughout the book.
Lia is a great heroin, she's not full of herself, she has self doubt but she doesn't moan or back down, she is willing to fight for what she wants and has a good sense of justice.
I hope there is a second book coming out, because I want more.

Wow, Nilsa Rodriguez has created a reality that has captivated me and has me needing to know, "Will there be more?!"

The Rising Moon focuses around Angelia, or as she prefers Lia. Being the outsider for quite some time she has grown accustomed to staying to herself, but when she meets Ryan she starts to open up, but Ryan recognizes her for what she is, and like he tells Lia they aren't that different. Ryan is a shapeshifter and Lia is a werewolf. As Lia begins to comprehend what this means Ryan and his aunt both reveal some things that have been kept secret from Lia and thats when everything begins to change...When she meets Lyle and Adam. Lia is in the middle of an ongoing battle between Lyle who she has an instant attraction to and the man she is truly fated to be with, Adam, the one she dreams of and feels whole with. One a werewolf, the other a vampire. But things start to get more complicated for Lia, in the end will the past be doomed to repeat? That my friends will be revealed once you read the book.

I loved the characters that Nilsa created for this book, however, I felt that the beginning was a bit rushed but I also liked how it went right into the heart of the plot of the storyline, oh what a conundrum Nilsa has put me in...I also wish there were more scenes between her, lyle and Adam, I almost felt that there were more scenes with Ryan and that certain questions were left unanswered for me still at the end. Overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those who love werewolves, shape shifters and vampires. I hope that Nilsa turns this into a series.

4.5 out of 5 bats - Rounded up to 5 since Goodreads doesn't give the option for 4.5

Do you like werewolves, shifters, and vampires? Yes! Well then this book is for you.
I am a sucker for books with deep legends and The Rising Moon brought forth a nice mix of old werewolf legends and also took care of my vampire cravings.

In The Rising Moon, Lia has a complicated life and she seems to be accepting of her life the way it is. Until she meets Ryan Woodruff. The two of them connect quickly on a deep level, deeper than infatuation. Ryan helps Lia come to realize just what she is, and that she isn’t alone.

But then…she meets Lyle. Lyle is a Lobison, a werewolf, and Lyle proclaims his love for Lia. Lia soon realizes several things all at once. She is a very powerful, immortal werewolf who was reincarnated from the previous immortal werewolf, that she doesn’t love Ryan as more than her best friend, and that Lyle and his family are dangerous.

Lyles family, as well as Ryan’s keep mentioning Adam. So, she wants to know who Adam is. Eventually she meets him and it turns out that he is an ancient vampire and was in love with the woman from whom she was reincarnated. He was in love with her soul, therefore he loves Lia.

So, long story short...she needs to protect those she loves from the Lobison’s.

Hmmm, this is interesting, right? Well, that’s all you get about the story because I’m not about to give you any spoilers. If you read this blog you know I detest spoilers.

I really liked this book. I like it when an author is able to combine the whole vampire, werewolf, shifter thing and Nilsa Rodriguez was able to combine these wonderfully. Also, I like the sorta, small country ranch feeling she had going on there.

It's amazing how quickly your life can change.

Lia is a quiet girl. She keeps to herself, pushing people away because she's cursed to lose everyone she loves. Until she meets Ryan and he refuses to be pushed away. Together, they try to figure out the mystery surrounding Lia and her curse and uncover a lot more hiding in the shadows than Lia ever expected.

As Lia finds out more about herself and her background, she almost blindly accepts the new pieces of her world, though she is given a lot of hard evidence. Ryan was a very interesting character that played a big part in the novel at the beginning but almost faded out towards the end when other characters were introduced. The lack of emotional depth hindered the story, though that could be fixed along with the grammatical errors.

While the idea and concept behind the story was very interesting, the telling of it needed a little polish. There were points that seemed to contradict themselves or were just confusing. There was not a good enough line drawn between Lia's nature and that of those around her -- the reader is told she's a shifter and an immortal werewolf, but the two don't sound like they could be the same. The love angle seemed forced, though the idea that a werewolf would love a vampire is interesting.

The Rising Moon is a dark, twisted take on tales of shifters, werewolves, and vampires. While the ethnic side could have been more enriching, the story's potential drove it forward until the final battle.

The beginning started out with the main character waking up during a rainy night, which is a new change for the YA Paranormal’s usual novel opening on the first day of school. That's when I realized for sure that I would like and enjoy the book and I did.

Our protagonist Lia is awakened by her foster parent, John during a rainy night when one of their horses escaped and it turns out it wasn’t one of their horses. Things begin to get really weird around Lia as she begins Senior year. Lia is a closed person who tends to brush off everyone who wants to be friends with her. As the story continues she becomes stronger, and a courageous character. Though when it came to love I found her interests shifting from one guy to another too fast and too abrupt that I found it the whole love thing in the book unrealistic. But it still managed to entertain me! :D

The plot was a strong one involving topics that are not always told in the genre but somewhat new like the character combinations for one. You’ll get what I mean here when you read the book and you should! The transitions between scenes were kind of choppy and the descriptions began to confuse me no matter how many times I read the line. Being the first book of Rodriguez it is expected but she makes up for it with the great plot, unexpected scenes and strong characters. I’m looking forward to reading more from her and she how she progresses in her writing!

Firstly a massive thank you to the author Nilsa Rodriguez for sending me a review copy of this book!

The Rising Moon follows teenager Lia as she unlocks her family history and secrets.
Lia has never really fitted in, her dreams about wolves she once has as a child are back, and they are hitting her hard this time around. Following the death of her aunt, Lia finally decides it's time to find out the truth about her dreams and what they really mean and also the truth and the mystery that surrounds her past.

The Rising Moon did have a really great plot line. I loved the whole concept of the two different types of wolves and also the fact there is a vampire and a witch in the book. Throw those three supernatural creatures together and you'll always have a great story!
What did let the book down was the characters. For me they weren't real enough.
Lia was a great main character, but I would have liked to have seen a little bit more emotion and depth to some of the other characters in the book, without that they seemed a little fake to me.

There was a few parts in the book that I feel could have been cut out and just seemed to make the story drag on.
I just wanted to get to the good parts and the action, there was some pretty big chunks in the book I didn't feel was necessary.

Overall it was a really great read and an exciting start to a new wolf series!

Nilsa Rodriquez created a dark and fascinating world for her debut novel. Set in present day Wyoming, Lia suffers from losses that leave her lonely and secluded. As she begins her senior year, she will face shape-shifters, werewolves, and vampires. As she learns of the secrets that have been hidden from her; it is hard not to feel bad for her. Nothing is what she once thought it was, not even the people who took her in after biological parents’ deaths.

Many people cross her path, attempting to pull her out of the shell she has lived in for too long. Many to use her for their own gain.

My Review: By Leigh Savage

Right from the beginning you feel drawn into Lia’s life as the outsider…never quite fitting in. That was until she meets Ryan who shows her that being different wasn’t a bad thing but could in fact be a great thing, if only you embraced it and accepted who and what you are. After all Ryan had first had knowledge about being different, only his wasn’t so visible to the outside world. Ryan knew the legends that surrounded Lia and with the help of his family he would teacher the truth to her about who she was and hopefully how to embrace it.

Lia’s never had to worry about boyfriends that was until Ryan seemed to not only want to be her friend but also wanted her as his girlfriend; however she didn’t feel the same way about him. Form the moment she met Lyle she felt like she’d finally met the one…that is until the name Adam is brought up and even then she’s doesn’t believe that a love from a past life would sway her emotions for Lyle. That was until she finally meets the mysterious Adam and all those old emotions came rushing back making her feel as if time had never torn them apart.

Lia had to make a choice; be with Lyle who knew firsthand what it was like to a werewolf, or Adam who was an immortal vampire and who had been waiting around for centuries for her return to the living world. How could she choose between the two?

The story woven keeps you turning the pages needing to find out what happens next. As each secret is reviled the story takes yet another twist or turn always leaving you wanting more. My first night reading the story this book I stayed up until 2am never even realizing what time it was I just didn’t want to this story I stayed up until 2am never even realizing what time it was I just didn’t want to put the book down. I devoured the book quickly needing to know what happened next. I was drawn to each new charter that came into Lia’s life. This book is full action, deception, betrayal, and most of all a deep rooted Love. Your only disappoint in reading The Rising Moon is that it finally comes to an ends.

Angelia, or Lia, is a struggling teenager trying to get on with life. Alone and lonely, she’s an orphan and her foster mother is recently deceased. Her foster father has taken to drink to try and deal with it, life isn’t easy.

At school she is largely alone, until finally, in her senior year, through sheer persistence, Ryan manages to crack her isolation. Suddenly with a new circle of friends and a boy who likes her, things are looking up. Perhaps a little too up when Lyle, her friend and neighbour Emi’s brother, also expresses an interest.

But then she learns far more about her past than she imagined – including the reality of her parents and foster mother. She learns even more about herself, that her vivid dreams are just a herald of the werewolf within her. A werewolf who has lived before – and has an immortal lover that is now seeking her out. And a werewolf that has a long running feud with the family closest to her – who are now determined to get their revenge.

This book did have a decent concept and a very nice idea. The immortal, reincarnated werewolf trying to assimilate into mundane life and not knowing what she was. The haunted, grieving vampire looking for his lost love and rebuild their relationship. The ancient feuding family looking for revenge for long past grievances and even the shapeshifters having all this dumped on them but with more ties than they imagined. It could have been developed and well done.

Unfortunately, I don’t think it was. Largely because none of these points really were developed, they were just accepted facts. There’s even one bemusing scene where Lia goes to speak to Ani for the first time and Ani basically says “you’re a reincarnated werewolf, they want to kill you and a vampire loves you. Want a cup of tea?” It’s just dumped with no development – and Lia’s drama is not DOUBTING Ani but being unable to deal with how much this changes her life. Really? If a complete stranger told me I was a werewolf, I’d advise them to water down their booze more. Events happen, people form connections, people do things but their reasons are very shaky.

The writing was also a barrier. I’m not normally one to care too much about grammar or spelling – so long as it’s readable and flows, it’s not something I criticise a book for. But, in this case, it went just a bit too far. I think commas were inserted at random and the sentence structure was rather random, often with lots of short, staccato sentences that were jarring. I think the balance of writing was off as well – words were wasted on the exact details of getting dressed or making breakfast, and not enough spent on describing characters and developing relationships. There was also a problem with repeated wrong use of words – some of them were blatant spellcheck errors (“Now” instead of “know”) but some were just wrong words – obvious malapropisms.

First I would like to THANK FMB Tours for allowing me to be a part of this tour. When I first saw The Rising Moon on Goodreads I just knew I had to read it. I ordered the book and then I am not sure what happened but I never read it.So when I saw that this book was going on tour I just had to be a part of it. I am so glad I did because I got to read a wonderful story that had me begging for the second book.

Lia is not your average teenage girl. She stays quiet and keeps to herself. She is entering her senior in high school and unbeknownst to her she will be in the middle of a war. Not just any old war but a war of the hearts and power. Lia lost her parents and was sent into foster care and when that did not work out she was placed with a family who soon embraced there new daughter and loved her. Then she lost her foster mother and she is devastated by the loss and is left with only her foster father who does not pay her any attention since his wife died.

On the first day of school she meets Ryan Woodruff and she can't for the life of her figure out why this beautiful boy is talking to her and not running away like the other boys and girls do. But Ryan's persistence pays off and he asks her if they can be friends. She warns him that everything she loves she loses but he still wants to be friends. As their new friendship grows Ryan invites Lia to hang out with his friends and they accept her and she is grateful to Ryan for that.

Things start to get worse for Lia because she is having dreams about wolves and birds and she is just not sure of what is going on so she remains closed mouth until Ryan asks her what is really going on with her.She tells Ryan about the dreams and he tells her they should go and talk to his aunt because she might be able to help. Ryan's aunt does more than help Lia but puts all her worries and fears to rest because she finds out the truth of what she is and what she can do.

As Lia is trying to figure out who she is she is caught up in a nasty love triangle and to make matters worse she will have to choose to what is right for everyone she loves and everyone around her. Will she choose her best friend Ryan? Will she choose Lyle a pure breed wolf? or Will she choose the love of her life her heart and soul mate Adam? This story has so many things that it will keep you plastered to it so you can find out what Lia decides to do with her life as well as her love life. Will it be wolf or bird or vampire..... Read on to see what happens in thrilling story.

Lia is a loner, or at least that's how she starts out in the book. She doesn't bother talking to anyone because her eyes are different and she feels as if no one would understand her, being adopted and an outsider. That is until Ryan who is from the Rez tries to befriend her. He falls for her but she doesn't feel the same way about him. With Ryan as her new best friend she now has a large group of friends who are just like her (shifters). Her adopted mother recently died before the book began and she didn't know much about her family. But with Ryan as her friend he takes her to his aunt who senses and sees things. She tells Lia about her being a shifter because she has the mark on her eyes (a crescent moon), Ryan and his whole family and friends have the same mark and they too are all shifters. But Lia is different because she is not only a shifter but an immortal wolf who is destined to live her life all over again with the same ending, unless she can change it.

Emi and her family own the ranch that Lia's stepfather and her live at. At first they are the best of friends but as Lia learns more about herself and her background Emi also inherits powers from her grandmother who dies near the beginning of the book. She then turns on Lia because Emi believes that Lia will lead Adam (a vampire) to Emi and her family. She doesn't want Adam close to them because her ancestors once tried to kill him and this cause Lia's past life to also end her own life.

So here we have Lia an immortal wolf and Ryan and his family all shape shifters, Ryan is very overprotective of Lia. Emi is trying to kill Lia, Lyle who is Emi's brother is in love with Lia and wants some of her blood so that he too can become immortal. Adam has finally showed himself and being that Lia is Adam's love reincarnated they automatically fall for each other all over again. Lyle and Emi try to lure Lia to him by harming her stepfather and bringing Lia out of hiding. Once they have her in their presence they attempt to destroy her, thinking that Lia would not fight back. Adam comes out and battles Lyle and his sister to finally end this cycle.

This book was enjoyable to read, but I wish it was a little bit longer or there was more depth to each characters, but overall it was good. It was a quick and easy read.

In The Rising Moon, Lia is the reincarnation of Zaria, the Immortal Wolf. Torn between the love of Lyle, a werewolf and Adam, a vampire, Lia will have to make a choice. A choice that could potentially be deadly to not just herself but those she loves as well.

I loved the concept of The Rising Moon. We have a reincarnated Immortal Wolf stuck between the love of a werewolf and a vampire. And it just so happens that that werewolf and vampire are eternal enemies. This isn't one of those bright stories. The Rising Moon is actually really quite dark. There's loneliness, betrayal, jealousy, vengeance, hate, longing, heartache, death--but underneath all of these dark emotions is an undying love. That is what makes this story beautiful. That that undying love endures while surrounded by all that darkness.

The very core of the story is perfect, but the outer layers could have used some work. The grammar was really bad--there were way too many commas and in places that made no sense, a number of misspellings, and the sentence structure made it difficult to read. This seemed more like a rough draft with no revisions. I thought there needed to be more background to the events and occurrences. It's like they just happened--there wasn't much history or depth. And there are no questions asked, it's just accepted. These grammatical and developmental issues are what caused me to rate The Rising Moon with a 3 out of 5.

I'm not sure if this is a first book in a series or not--I couldn't find any information about that--but if the issues I stated are fixed, this story could be golden. Like I said before, the story concept is amazing, and with some fine tuning, this could be an equally amazing series if the story continues.

Wow, Nilsa Rodriguez has created a reality that has captivated me and has me needing to know, "Will there be more?!"

The Rising Moon focuses around Angelia, or as she prefers Lia. Being the outsider for quite some time she grown accustomed to staying to herself, but when she meets Ryan she starts to open up, but Ryan recognizes her for what she is, and like he tells Lia they aren't that different.

4.5 out of 5 bats

'The Rising Moon' was a quick and interesting read about a girl named Lia who finds out she isn't quite human. Among dealing with her alcoholic foster father, some problems at school, and focusing on graduating, Lia meets two handsome guys, Lyle (a werewolf) and Adam (a vampire). Lia must find out who she really is, who she can trust, and what her destiny holds.

The book was under 200 pages and was really well written, which made it a quick read. The storyline was fresh and interesting, but I thought the author could've expanded a lot more on some of the backstory, especially with the different histories. The characters were well rounded and had believable problems. I was able to fully empathize with Lia's situation at home and especially at school with all the problems that she had to face. Most readers will easily identify with her and the problems she endures throughout the book. The narrative flowed well and was very captivating, but I feel that there was a lot more potential for the story and the characters that would've taken it from great to amazing.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great book. Once I started it, I had trouble putting it down.

Lately, I've been finding myself reading Young Adult novels less and less. Despite all their differences, when it gets down to it, they are ultimately all the same. I'm not going to lie and say that this book was incredibly unique. It contained a lot of the same cliches that seem to be in almost every YA book nowadays. One of the major cliches being the fact that a love triangle existed. Even so, there was something about this novel that in my opinion, made it stand out from the crowd. Maybe it was because I liked the creepiness so much. Maybe it was because all of the characters were interesting and entertaining in their own ways. Or maybe it was all of the above. No matter the reason, this novel was not like the others.

If you're a fan of Young Adult Paranormal Romance, this book is not to be missed. It is a page turner that will have you on the sitting on the edge of your seat, hanging on to every word. I definitely recommend it.

Oh how I really was looking forward to this book....

First of all the premise, the cover, and the video trailer are simply made of awesome! All these things drew me in and made me want to read this book. Even after I started reading it I still can say that the storyline and the folklore that is woven into the story has great potential.

Like really really great potential...It's just I don't think this book is ready for the world yet. I think is needs to be re-wrote and fleshed out some more because it reads more like an outline which leaves it feeling kind of jumpy and flat. And even though I couldn't finish this novel because of the aforementioned issues I still give it two stars for the potential alone.

Overall in my opinion with a re-write to add a little more flesh to these characters and a good editor this book could be a great read that I would devour, but for now I think it's just not ready to be out in the world.

The heroines mother and father passed away when she was merely five years old. So she went to live with her foster parents never knowing the truth that her mother was actually a sister to her foster mother. When her foster mother was murdered and the heroine finds out the truth about everything, she is stunned. What's more, is she is a shapeshifter, an immortal wolf, a werewolf. When the bad guys come calling the heroine and her friends have to find a way to defeat them. But when the love of her life shows up, everything changes for he is a vampire.

The book was, well a better word to describe it is 'cute'. Some of it was just so unbelievable I just had to laugh. Other parts were okay. It was kind of pathetic with some of it and the word "love" being thrown around like a bunch of candies at a christmas parade. I definitely wouldn't read the book again but it was so entertainment for a while.

DNF

-_-

This might have been a good book if it wasn't for the annoying main character.
And the rest of the characters actions being completely unrealistic.
I mean I know this is a book dealing with the supernatural so a certain measure of unrealisticness should be allowed but come on!
Besides, I don't mean unrealistic in the 'Oh he's a vampire' kind of way but rather in the 'this girl has been going to school for four years with these kids but they never noticed her and the day they do it is because this guy that doesn't know a thing about her is already totally in love with her' kind of way. And then bam! Another guy comes out of the blue and falls for her too. But oh wait, here comes another one.
The characters have absolutely no substance.

Everything is so rushed in this book. There is all this stuff happening and yet I'm totally bored. Lia has no emontion. The witch part doesn't make sense at all. I mean the grandmother totally liked Lia so why wouldn't Emi. Dont even get me started on the werewolves and shape shifters. sigh! I really wanted to like this book but I couldn't even finish it.
