Frank Tyra, a graduate student in physics, can't pay his tuition or keep himself in ramen noodles and beer because his blackjack team went bust at the poker tables. When one of his less-than-bright undergraduate students offers to bankroll a new team, Frank teaches a bunch of frat boys to count cards in Las Vegas. Arizona State is a party school, and when his new team starts to party away their chance to bring down the house, Frank has to find some way to survive.
In this unsettling short story that is an exploration of science and the odds of winning Vegas, TK Kenyon again explores what it is to be human. Booklist declared in a starred review that TK Kenyon is "definitely an author to watch."
