Get ready for motor-revving action as Gigi discovers the truth of the lost romance of her human past, uncovering a hidden agenda for why she’s not like others of her kind. Made for humans and monsters alike, Frank-n-people are nothing more than entertainment and sensual gratification for their owners, created by a madman. Not accepting that as her fate, this undead girl is blazing a path of her own.
With the mad scientist Victor’s decision to grant Gigi free will, she has mustered up enough strength to part ways with her abusive ex-husband, following a cataclysmic event that forces vintage horror monsters into the human realm. When she crosses paths with Fox Adams - a lonely human drifter, he wants to work alongside the beautiful, green-skinned drag racing icon in her infamous monster garage. Confused by the attraction to a man with dreams of racing stardom, it forces her to look into who her host body really is if she wants a future with Fox. Together, they form an unlikely bond that will show her she wasn’t just made to be a living Frank-n-mate doll. She was made for love.
Gigi Stein is a well known undead street racer and national racer amongst the monster racers. She has a successful garage and has found good friends she is lucky enough to call family. But when her ex-husband, Frank N. Stein, comes back into her garage it sends her into a tailspin. For as much as she has accomplished, she is still trapped by her abusive past and knows that Frank won't let her go. Not only does he have the chip implanted that made her his toy but a blood oath binds them. So as much as she has tasted freedom she isn't truly free. When a human drifter comes into town, she initially tells him to beat it. But he wants to race, to learn from the best, and his attraction to Gigi has her confused because how could anyone have feelings for an undead girl with no soul? Everyone is sure she is unique but can they convince her before Frank crushes her freedom again.
The cover had me hooked, the colors and images just popped. I read the synopsis and I was intrigued. The bits of humor and sarcasm between the heavier themes had me chuckling. The characters themselves were individuals with a few of them having some quirks I wasn't thrilled with. The delivery just missed the mark for me. There were pieces of the plot that didn't match up well and the explanation for the Monsters being on Earth didn't quite make sense. Darker, mature themes of spousal abuse, mental trauma from that, violence, and sex. I don't mind reading any of these things and some of the reactions Gigi has make sense and I actually applaud how the author handles some of these things at the end. Sex scenes don't bother me but some of them didn't flow with the plot and felt unnecessary, I lost my plot at times. I enjoyed the overall idea of this, I just wished it was delivered a bit better.
I actually had to end up dnf-ing about 3/4ths of the way through, for one particular reason. it's a good book, even though I think racing books aren't for me. the reason for my dnf was one of the characters is severely controlling, manipulative, possessive, and narcissistic. enough that I think this book should come with a trigger warning. normally I can get angry at a character like this and move on, but even just thinking about reading the book knowing he could be mentioned makes me mad. it's a good book otherwise, hence the 3 stars.
This book drew me in from the beginning, and the love story mixed in with the monster vibes was excellently told, and I read it in two days. A must-read, couldn't put down book.
If you like race, cars, rockabilly, and a little bit of spice, you’ll like this book, it’s a little bit of monster smut that is just good old fashion fine classic monsters
