It was a perfect summer morning, sipping iced coffee, browsing quaint boutiques. But when an artifact goes missing and a blood-drained body turns up, shopping’s over and the garlic hits the fan.
Emma's new psychic career hangs by a thread, but a friend’s plea pulls her into the case. A book collector, a paranoid shaman and a yarn seller all have something to hide. Their secrets inflame old rivalries. The Friends of the Library go to war with the Friends of the Museum and the Mothers of Unappreciative Daughters enter the chat.
She may be in over her head, but at least Emma has her the gossip ghosts; a professor of applied folklore; a tough-as-nails barista; and an enigmatic cat known as The Captain. Over frothy lattes and flaky croissants, they're determined to follow the clues and catch a killer. But will they have the chance?
A new sheriff’s come to Undertown, and he's got a score to settle...
Emma Day is a young woman living in a small town called Undertown which seems to be near Seattle Washington. It is an interesting little town that has been revitalized. Emma has ties to the town and is psychic like her aunt. She has found that she can communicate with ghosts and decides that she might as well make her living doing what she is one of the people most able to do solutions of cases with the dead involved.
It is a quaint little area where she works. There is a restaurant that makes pancakes that are two inches thick and a serving is three of those. There is a bookstore, where the man that runs it has the front store and during the day he has control over who goes to the others stories, there is a guy who is obsessed about vampires because a body was found with teeth marks. There are some ghosts that have a communial house with apartments where they all live together.
Of course, there is a murder which has to be figured or there would be no real story to tell. Of course Emma Day has to solve that myself and it is as always the last person you would think of.
Despite the talk about vampires, we don't get any vampire sightings or even a real hint of who. We do have ghosts and more ghosts and mysterious characters however. I recommend the story for the quick easy read and the mystery.
This book definitely kept you on your toes; more spirits added to the confusion, as well as confusing stories about vampires being murderers. The same lousy detective questioned everyone and blamed them of the murders just to see what would fall from the tree (so to speak). Emma tries to help everyone and as usual, she succeeds.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
A shorter read but still had a great mystery. One character was a hoot. Orion, who sells crystals and acts like a 60's hippy. I was happy to see he showed up in the next book, which I have already read.
