3/5 My protector. My lover. My godfather.

If you like mafia romances with twists, turns, and spice galore- give this book a try! It starts out with Raleigh, mafia princess, at her ballerina recital. Her father and countless others get manned down but she's saved.

On the other side of the country, Maxwell finds out about the death of the mafia Don, someone he used to be friends with but lost contact with the past 20 years. He goes to NY and finds out he's Raleigh's godfather... and that the mafia Don left everything to him. There's some push-and-pull between them throughout the story.

I was her guardian, her protector, and that was all this would ever be. Then why do I ache to the point of pain?

I love love love the forbidden aspect!! I haven't read many godfather/goddaughter books so this was a nice surprise. There's some angst in this book but man, it's spicy when they get around to it!

While I reminded myself that he was unattainable, completely off limits, the initial crush was already finding its way into becoming something else.
Something much more dangerous, filthy, and everything I shouldn't want.
But exactly what I desired.
Pure sin.

Usually I really like mafia romances but this didn't click with me, sadly. I love Raleigh and Maxwell but not the storyline.

SAFETY:
virgin heroine/no history on H
slight om/ow
no cheating
kinks: spanking with and without belt, exhibitionism, BDSM
tropes: guardian/ward, godfather/goddaughter, dad's bestie, mafia, age gap
HEA

This one started off good I was enjoying it then we hit a snag in the storyline where I just started to get bored.. the taboo aspect didn't feel that taboo. Ended up skim reading the last 35% of it.

Thanks to "Unalivepromotions" for the opportunity for the ARC Read all opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this book, but it was definitely different than what I'm normally used to when it comes to dark mafia romances.

I thought that the characters were fun, sexy and edgy. Max and Raleigh were superb together, and their chemistry was sizzling.

The book was well written and flowed nicely. I was very much engrossed with the story the whole time. Overall, I thought the book was really good.

seriously Terrific Mafia Romance

Oh yeah I really love a Dark Mafia Romance when it is written by Piper Stone, there is butt stuff, there are smutty scenes and there is plenty of action. Also we get a nice HEA at the end. This is great and I love ❤️ how it played out.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪🧪🧪
Mafia-ness: 4.5/5
Plot: 5/5

The Don was a fantastic mafia grumpy x sunshine, taboo, age gap romance. It was a ride of corrupt, dangerous men with the one female that could tame the Godfather.

Raleigh was a woman of heartache from the rough times in her life but a strong as hell woman who could do and get through anything. She was determined from the beginning to do just that! She was such a strong force to begin with and with her man by her side she could conquer anything.

Maxwell was such a strong well known man to sooo many. But even more well known to so many more after he took over the Cosa Nostra in NY. He had no clue what all he had in store for himself when he got the news. But he bucked up and became the person that many more needed. And what Raleigh needed. He refused to back down and made sure that he stood for him and his own.

I absolutely love Mafia novels, and this one had every aspect I love of romance novels. Minus the fake relationship/baby aspect. But I can always hope for the baby angle for possible future books!!

So, the story line itself, if we take away the romance aspect, it’s a good story. The twists and turns are unexpected and the mystery keeps you enthralled. Raleigh and Maxwell had an odd relationship. Maxwell was Raleigh’s long lost godfather that came to help manage the family business while Raleigh and her brother are unable to access their trust. Their were aspects of BDSM that I felt weren’t executed well and the taboo element wasn’t really there. There were moments of sweetness between them but it was hard to see the relationship between them. The mystery surrounding Raleigh’s dad death and the zero f*ucks given by Maxwell on his rampage to solve it, was a surprise I didn’t see coming. So to read this book for the storyline? Yes. The romance? No.

DNF. The writing just threw off some of the vibes for me. It kind just seemed like a stream of consciousness at some point. The story had so much potential but I just couldn’t get past the writing style

What a great read 'The Don' by Piper Stone turned out to be. Maxwell is a former Marine and owns an elite security company. When he receives a call from an attorney in New York that he doesn't know, he knows something is about to blow wide open. When he receives a one-page letter from Tony Arturo, his former military comrade and friend turned Mafia Don, by currier he has no choice but to leave for New York. Raleigh Arturo is a Mafia Princess but she's also a professional prima ballerina. Not because of who she is but because of her talent. Her performance was perfect. Her insecurities did not get the best of her. Her father came to the theatre and brought her roses. It all blew up in her face when the man who cherished her above all else was shot down in cold blood. Oh, did I forget to mention Raleigh is also Maxwell's goddaughter? As the truth about Tony's death starts to be uncovered Maxwell makes a vow to protect Raleigh with his life. It's a who dun it with a forbidden May to December romance and Ms. Stone pulls it off beautifully.

DNF

I won’t be finishing this book. The lead female’s father dies, gunned down at her performance, and not more than 48 hours later ( maybe 15 minutes after meeting this guy) he beats her with a belt. If that’s not bad enough, security finally comes rushing in, and he makes them watch and threatens to spank them too. I mean she’s bare bottom, and guards who have been with her forever watched. It disgusted me.

It’s even worse because she’s been loved and treated well by her father. A lot of mafia books I’ve read don’t have good relationships between father and daughter. This man cherished her, and I’m sure never spanked her. So while she’s swimming in guilt, grief, and loss, this dirtbag walks in giving her a hard time, and then beats her with a belt , even after the attorney advised him to take it easy on her.

In my opinion, there’s no coming back from that.

The Don is the first book in a trilogy of stories in The Empire Series by Piper Stone...and what an incredible start..I cannot wait to listen to the other books.
Yes this is another brilliant audiobook narrated by Thomas Lockclear and Ri Paige..Honestly these two voice actors are two of the best I have ever heard. They reel you in with their storytelling and you just can't stop listening, they always breathe life into Piper's stories in a magical way.
And What a complicated web of a story this is..Raleigh and Maxwell never expected to fall for one another..He was alot older than her...he was her fathers friend...and he was her Godfather.
After Rayleigh's father is murdered,Maxwell Powers recieves a phone call out of the blue discovering that Tony Arturo had been killed. They had served together in the Marines and they hadn't actually seen one another in many years...So why had Tony included Max in his Will.?
It becomes clear that Tony had left Max EVERYTHING..his buisnesses, his home and for him to take care of his two children Rayleigh and her brother.
He hadn't seen her since she was 3 years old and she was about to become 21...Truthfully Max didn't want all this responsibility taking care of a Mafia mans affairs, because not only had he inherited the Mafia but he had inherited all of Tony's enemies as well.
One particular enemy wanted Rayleigh as his own..there was bad blood between Killian's family and Tony's family.
So Max needed to find Tony's killer and protect Rayleigh from being taken or killed too..But Max felt things for Rayleigh that was more than just her protector...he was falling in love with his god daughter.
As soon as Rayleigh seen the man who would be the head of the house and family ,she knew without a doubt that she wanted him..There was a pull towards him that she refused to fight,Rayleigh had always thought Ballet was her passion but having Max was her new passion...He is everything she wants and needs...But is wanting him so wrong?
They embark on a passionate affair were Max dominates and controls her in the most delicious way showing her pleasure like she has never known could be possible.
This is such a spellbinding book I could not stop listening to it as I wanted to know what would happen next.
Piper Stone's writing just gets better and better with every story she creates and The Don was no different.I absolutely LOved hearing it being read to me by Thomas and Ri...
Maxwell is so dark, dangerous and a man you do not cross...Rayleigh is beautiful and innocent but has a sassy side she does not back down from danger...and they clash more than once.
This is instant attraction that quickly becomes love and Max and Rayleigh have to navigate a secret relationship while trying to sort out the mess Tony her father had left behind.
I relished this book, its such a fabulous story.
Excellent.

I’m fond of Piper Stone and her Mafia stories full of alpha strong men who are possessive, and fiercely protective of their women. In this book, Piper delivers us a taboo age gap mafia shoot up with a couple who can’t keep their eyes off one another right from the start.

Raleigh is a prima ballet dancer and also a mafia princess who just danced the best performance in her life for her father, who is there to witness her, but everything falls apart in the blink of an eye when shooters come and slaughter so many dancers as well as her beloved father, The Don who was the Cosa Nostra in NY.

When Maxwell Powers hears that his friend Tony Arturo was gunned down and has requested his protection for the Don’s kids he knows he will respond for his old friend. Maxwell has lost touch with his old marine friend yet comes to Tony’s home to see just what happened.

Maxwell finds so much lurking danger that now surrounds his old friend’s family but they had an unbreakable friendship from their previous marine lives that he drops everything to protect them. His charges have grown after all it’s been 20 years since he last saw Raleigh at her christening. Now she a beauty and in grave danger as the heir to the NY mafia.

I really believe that Tony just knew his old friend would be there to protect his family and that’s why he is summoned to NY after all. What Maxwell doesn’t anticipate is his instant connection to his own goddaughter who he now will protect at all costs.

What happens next is the smart mouth vixen gets a spanking of her life when she tries having a hissy fit but Maxwell won’t let her endanger herself and steps in to run the cosa nostra while also trying to find Tony’s killer. Like every great mafia story there is combating factions and who knows what might happen.

I loved the characters and the fast pace of this latest book by Piper Stone her writing flows seamlessly and her characters have the attitude and sexiness that grabs her audience. Of course having dual narration from Thomas Locklear and Ri Paige takes her books to the next level. I really feel her characters come to life with Thomas and Ri doing their magic in this standalone audiobook.

This is a wonderful read, Mafia children Maxwell responsible to keep safe not easy at all
This was a simply riveting read and you cannot put the book down once you begin reading as it is so engaging and I was totally captivated by the characters and the scenario that’s been so well written.

Maxwell had been godfather to Raleigh but had not seen her since she was around three when her mother had died after her brother had been born and he had not seen them since. A phone call and he discover that one of his forces buddies has been murdered in front f his daughter, Raleigh had been the Prima ballerina and her father had been in the wings looking so proud and then all hell had broken out and now her father is no more.

When Maxwell meets Raleigh there is an instant chemistry and it is something he has not felt for years but she is his goddaughter and she is there to look out for her and her brother who is moody and bears a chip on his shoulder. He thinks that he should be running the business but he is not even eighteen years old yet and thinks he knows it all.

This is a book that you will not be able to put down, you are guessing who wants Raleigh dead and why and the interaction with Maxwell and the other characters has you sitting up paying attention.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Lighter than what I am use to from Piper but it didn’t disappoint buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story forbidden age cap Raleigh grew up hearing of her godfather but never really met him except when she was a newborn at her christening he was her father’s best friend when they were in the military and when her father is murdered and while giving the performance of a lifetime he was being killed she can’t stop the guilt. Maxwell sexy as all get out Don now but was once in the military so when he gets the word his best friend was murdered leaving his goddaughter whom he hasn’t seen since her birth unprotected just won’t due and so he heads out to take care of the situation but the moment he lays eyes on the ballerina the very beautiful twenty now goddaughter. Mixed feelings because he was her father’s best friend, she is her god daughter, and he shouldn’t feel attracted to her on top of that the age difference. But when has that every stopped him from getting who he wants and since he has appointed himself her protector but working to discover who betrayed his friend while keeping his children safe but will he get to the bottom of why his friend was murdered, who murdered his friend, who put his women …yep you read that correctly his women in danger, will he do what is needed to keep his girl safe, and can they get passed all the seriously wrong issues of the age gap, the god father stigma to find happiness?.

The Don is the first installment in Piper Stones’ Ruthless Empire series. In it she chronicles the romantic journey of Raleigh Arturo, ballerine and crime family princess, and Maxwell Powers, former marine and owner of Powers Security. When her father is assassinated and Maxwell inherits the Arturo Crime Family’s organization and becomes heirs to both Raleigh and Francesco, live changes for all three. Upon meeting both, Maxwell and Raleigh, are attracted to each other. At first they try to remain distant but as threats to Raleigh’s live occur, Maxwell finds his protective and possessive streaks are awakened. Can he keep Raleigh safe? Will the Princess succumb to his dominating nature? Will Maxwell discover who killed Tony Arturo? How will Raleigh’s younger brother react to Maxwell becoming the new Don? To find out, you must read this suspenseful mafia romance.

Although I read this installment out of order, I enjoyed this well-written romantic mafia suspense. I appreciate Ms. Stone’s technique of using a two-prong plot. One prong is their romantic journey. The second prong is one of suspense and mystery in the life of crime families. Her rich conversational and internal dialog reveals more of Raleigh and Maxwell’s backstories. The use of a dual point of view to illuminate their hopes and vulnerabilities is strategic Lastly, Ms. Stone’s use of descriptive language paints vivid and memorable scenes. Through these scenes Ms. Stone captures her readers’ attention allowing them to feel like they are eyewitnesses to the inner workings and threats of a crime family. The sex is a bit raw nevertheless this was a captivating read.

“Everything I shouldn't want.
But exactly what I desired.
Pure sin.”

Jumping straight into action within the first couple of chapters. Starting with Raleigh (fmc), performing at her ballet recital. Her amazing performance was overshadowed by shots fired, screams, blood and countless bodies everywhere, one of those bodies being her father.

Across the country, Maxwell (mmc) gets a call from an attorney and finds out about the death of the mafia Don, someone he used to be close friends with decades ago.

Max goes to NYC and find out his old friend left him everything, his entire estate, the Don title and the responsibility of being ward to two children. One of which he is godfather too….. Raleigh.

I absolutely loved the forbidden aspect of this book! Haven’t read many godfathers/goddaughter books this was a pleasant surprise and while it took a little while to heat up when it finally did it was flaming hot spicy. 🔥🔥

I enjoyed reading this book but I will mention that for me it did slow down midway but picked back up again after and was still a good read.

If you like duel POV, hot mafia, grumpy x sunshine romance and the addition of a taboo age gap, you’ll love this.

Please be warned there are mature themes and I’d recommend being 18+. Some themes include: murder, violence, sexual and bdsm content.

The Godfather returns...

A bit on the lighter side of Mafia romance for me personally, but 'The Don' by Piper Stone was still a great read.
It was a world of betrayal and finding out who you could trust and who you couldn't.
I liked our new Godfather, Max and the way he ran his business. And though I did find some of his indesitions a bit frustrating, overall he had a good arc and I enjoyed him. He took care of business well, and the red thread of intrigue and suspense was present throughout.
I wasn't sure myself who to trust, which was great and made the reading more exciting.

Raleigh... Was less of a win for me personally. And though their scenes together was hawt and I liked the cane, there wasn't really anything remarkable about her. Which is a shame. I did like that little seemed to phase her though in terms of the organisation. That's always a good win for me.

I was disappointed that we didn't get to see much of her brother though. Francesco I would have loved to get to know a little better. Max mentioned needing to talk to him and handle him several times, but it never happened, which I would have liked to see.

Overall this book was a good read and it did have several characters I could see with their own books, Viper being one of them.

I must admit I am not a fan of abrupt endings and I hate not getting epilogue, but that's me. ;)

From godfather to protector to so much more.

The Don is a mafia /age gap/ forbidden romance that follows Max and Raleigh.

Max Powers is an ex-marine who owns Powers Security in California.

Raleigh is the principal dancer with the New York City Ballet and daughter of Tony Arturo the head of the New York Cosa Nostra. She also has a younger brother Francesco whose mad at the world. All their lives changed in a blink of an eye when her father was gunned down in front of her.

Max and Tony were in the marines together and were friends, Max was even his daughters godfather but they drifted apart over the years. Max going into security and Tony becoming a mob boss. Then everything changed when Tony left everything to him in his will along with guardianship of his two children.

Against his better judgment he immersed himself in Tony's world after more threats come to light. Max and Raleigh have an instant chemistry and despite the age difference they become involved. Soon secrets, lies, betrayals, danger and chaos ensues that threatens everything and everyone.

WOW

Let me start by saying that this was my first book by this author and its DEFINITELY not going to be my last. Really liked how the story and plot developed, and the writing was good.

Imma be honest and say that I was more interested in the plot then the romance.

Don't get me wrong the romance part was really good. Max and Raleigh were like two magnets they just couldn't stay away from each other. Its supposed to be a taboo/Forbidden romance but it didn't feel like that to me. Yes he was her godfather but dude disappeared right after becoming her godfather and had no communication with her or her dad. So it just didn't feel Forbidden at all to me. There is an age gap though (clearly he was her dads friends).

Now the entire book was finding out who murdered her dad. That part had me hooked. I couldn't have guessed what would happened next. The author did a good job writing an interesting plot that has u at the edge of ur seat while also giving you some romance and very spicy scenes. We get the best of both worlds in this book.

What a fantastic read "The Don" by Piper Stone turned out to be. The story follows Maxwell, a former Marine who owns an elite security company. When he receives an unexpected call from an attorney in New York, he senses that something significant is about to unfold. Maxwell is further prompted to head to New York when he receives a one-page letter from Tony Arturo, a former military comrade and friend who has become a Mafia Don.

Raleigh Arturo, Tony's daughter, is not only a Mafia princess but also a talented prima ballerina. Her performance is flawless, and despite her insecurities, she shines on stage. Her father comes to the theater to support her, bringing roses. However, everything changes when the man who cherishes her most is tragically shot down in cold blood. To add to the complexity, Raleigh is also Maxwell's goddaughter.

As the truth surrounding Tony's death begins to surface, Maxwell vows to protect Raleigh with his life. The story weaves a captivating who-dunnit with a forbidden May-December romance, and Ms. Stone executes it beautifully.

What the heart wants, the heart gets and that’s the beauty of Maxwell and Raleigh story.

The Don is almost a forbidden and age gap love story, but what heart wants surpasses what is suppose to be correct. Raleigh was Maxwell goddaughter and he hadn’t seen since the christening and now she is a twenty year old adult. Maxwell and Raleigh father was best friends when they were in the military. When her father was murdered, Maxwell had to go to New York and handle the Don’s business. Raleigh was a beautiful ballerina who was the principal dancer and gave the performance of her life when her father was killed. Maxwell became her protector, lover and he was her godfather. Beautiful story and as always Piper doesn’t disappoint. Her story come to life on paper and smoking hot. I recommend reading this book.

Maxwell is a former marine, and as one myself, I enjoyed that aspect of his story. Max is now the owner of Power security, a private security firm, and finds out his best friend has been murdered, leaving his goddaughter Raleigh unprotected.

Raleigh is the principal dancer for the New York City Ballet. Her dad Tony is the head of New York’s Nosa Costra, and is murdered, right in front of her, leaving her in grave danger. Tony, and Max were in the Marines together, so when he’s killed, Max feels a sense of obligation to protect his family.

Tropes include:

- Age gap
- Grumpy/ sunshine
- Dads best friend
- Spicy 🥵

After the brutal murder of her father, Raleigh's life is turned upside down. Being the principal dance for a New York Ballet Company she should be used to jerks, but Maxwell is different.

Maxwell is thrown into a life he never wanted after the death of his friend, but to protect his goddaughter he will do anything. How far will the lines between what's right and wrong blur? Will he be able to protect Raleigh from the dangerous life of being a mafia princess?

There's a good bit of spice in this one, whole chapters, but sometimes it distracts from the plot. I am also good with the age gap trope, I wasn't really liking the goddaughter/godfather relationship.

There's also a bit of mystery and suspense, which is a nice mix-up in a spicy romance.

Other tropes include touch her and die, virgin, forced proximity, forbidden romance, grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract

I have mixed feelings about this book. There are things that I really enjoyed, but overall it was just an ok read for me. I loved the attraction between Raleigh and Maxwell, especially the age-gap, forbidden romance godfather aspect. This book also had so many twists and turns that kept me guessing, which I always like.

But the overall plot, while promising at the start, just fell flat for me. I feel like there was much about Maxwell left unexplained and I didn't think that his transformation from security expert/bodyguard to Mafia Don was believable, and felt forced on occasion. I also think Max's punishments of Raleigh, which included a belt and cane, were a bit too much, especially for a virgin fmc.

Other readers of mafia romance may love this book, but it was a solid three stars for me.
