The small format keeps a drawing finishable in a sitting or a coffee break, a train journey, ten quiet minutes before bed.
Before you buy, two honest notesThe detail is fine and the format is small. If you prefer bold, open shapes or large simple designs, this is not that book. Check out our Easy Strokes series. Sharp pencils or fine-tip pens work best.
The paper is light. It takes colored pencils well. Markers will show through, so slip a spare sheet behind the page you're working on.
A small, quiet, intricate book, and an easy gift for anyone who colors.
I absolutely adore that this publisher includes all sorts of fun facts on the backing/facing pages of their coloring books. The ones here about fairy houses are particularly fascinating and fun to read. I just wish that the images to color were as good as these factoids! While there can be such a variety of types of fairy houses—even as explained in a factoid, since they can be inspired by different eras and countries—the 25 images in this book seemed remarkably similar…right down to the fact that pretty much all of them had rounded doorways! The shapes of the houses are mostly similar, too, with a few variants here and there. I didn't like how some background detail was just not there, like leaves on trees, even branches on top of the homes themselves! These were barely there. Another thing I disliked about this coloring book is that it has many areas pre-colored black, which I never like to see. You just cannot over-color black, so your final project is limited in its final effects. So your expression is limited, too. I've seen and reviewed a few fairy house coloring books, and there are certainly better ones out there than this one.
I received a free copy of this coloring book, but that did not affect my review.
Charming and whimsical fairy houses to color with snippets of information about them. Sure to capture your imagination while coloring and perhaps inspire you to build your own fairy village. The drawings are nicely detailed without being overly intricate making them perfect to share with older children. The pages with text are decorated as well. The text is clear and easy to read with no typos noticed. The smaller size is perfect for bringing along when traveling. Another lovely coloring collection from Sharp Pen Publishing.
