Immortal Cells by Tyrolin Puxty is a fast paced, thrilling YA fantasy read which had me on the edge of my seat! I think if you love tales about friendship, immortals & courageous, desperate defiance? You’ll want to read this review & pre-order this story!

Malin has never done anything wrong, except live. As an immortal, she’s been running from authorities for centuries. When she’s captured, Malin is taken to the Immortal Cells. And no one escapes from there. Regularly poisoned & drained of blood, the immortals are punished for being unable to die… Can Malin escape this prison? What happens when an immortal actually dies? Will Malin be able to alter the course of her people?

I love that the focus for Immortal Cells is on what happens to immortal inmates within a prison. How do you punish someone who is meant to live forever? And how are immortals, who have massive power, kept under the thumb of humans?

Within this YA fantasy, Tyrolin mingles the awfulness of a prison setting with some of the loveliest, funniest moments. If you’d told me I was going to laugh from something a talking head had said, I wouldn’t have believed you! Seriously, this tale is one which will keep you absolutely hooked, from beginning to end. Malin is such a realistic heroine; never too sure she’s making the right choice, Malin just tries her best. And you know what? That’s what I want! I *want* heroines who struggle, for whom nothing is easy...

Title: Immortal Cells
Author: Tyrolin Puxty
Rating: ☆☆☆☆

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast paced, entertaining, thrilling YA fantasy. I knew I just had to read it when I read the blurb and I wasn't disappointed.

Now I won't lie and say there aren't some slow parts throughout the book but keep going. You will continue to learn more fascinating details and you'll realize it was worth the build-up. The world building is amazing and well thought out. I was quite pleased with all the twists and turns throughout this story and plot. Everytime I began to think I had it all figured out with the story and the characters, I was proven once again that I didn't know near as much as I thought I did, which in all fairness, I'm glad that I was wrong. I don't like books that I can figure out in the first 30 minutes. I want the ups and downs, twists and turns. This book really managed to intrigue me, I was completely enthralled with all the characters. This book and everything in it was so riveting.

I highly recommend this book to everyone.

This blurb caught my attention straight away and I was excited for my read of Immortal Cells.

It was fast paced without huge info-dumping, yet quite easy to follow the storyline. It kept my on the edge of my seat, eager to see what happens next. We learn the information about the different immortals along the way, characteristics, gifts etc and also learn why the Immortals are being thrown in prison.

I was completely invested in Malin and how she navigated the prison system - I often found myself envying her strength and persistence. The whole time I was hoping for her escape along with Rune & Taylin, however she was at constant war with her own morals and self preservation. When one of the Immortal prisoners die, something which should be entirely impossible, Malins entire existence and beliefs are thrown into question. Had the prison finally figured out how to kill the immortals or was it all part of a larger conspiracy?

There isn't a cliffhanger at the end however there are lots of unanswered questions which hopefully will come in the sequel.

I highly recommend for fans of YA, dystopian fantasy

Immortal Cells by Tyrolin Puxty

Thank you to @tyrolinpuxty & @katieandbreypa for the opportunity to read this #eARC in exchange for my #honestreview! This book is out now and available on #kindleunlimited.

After years on the run, Malin is captured and taken to a prison for immortal beings. Her crime? (Formerly) being immortal. As Malin attempts to navigate her new hostile home where breakfast may be a meal or a poison shower, torture is routine, and cannibals run wild, she begins to realize there is something a lot more sinister at play. Will she and her friends make an escape or will she finally meet her doom?

I do not generally reach for fantasy but this premise really drew me in. It’s almost like a twist on the Divergent series meets Lord of the Rings. I was pulled in within the first 25 pages and invested in Malin’s fate. And that cliffhanger at the end!! I sincerely hope this turns into a multi part series and would like to see it adapted to the big screen as well! I highly recommend for those looking for a fast-paced fantasy that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Review:
Immortal Cells by Tyrolin Puxty is a thrilling YA fantasy that explores the consequences of immortality and the horrors that await immortal inmates in prison. The concept of punishing someone who is meant to live forever is intriguing, and Tyrolin doesn't shy away from the gruesome realities of it all, including immortal cannibals.
But amidst the darkness, Tyrolin also manages to infuse moments of levity, with witty dialogue. Malin, the heroine, is someone to root for as she struggles to make the right choices and do what's best in a world where nothing is easy.
Overall, Immortal Cells is an exciting and fast-paced read that I highly recommend to fans of YA fantasy.

Memorable Quote:
“Life isn’t so black and white, Mal. Just check out the shades of blue in the night sky. There are a lot of layers. A lot of depth. A lot of variety. If there’s all that in a color, imagine how complex a personality is.”

Wonderful writing, this story draws you in. I will say at one point I did get triggered. I could hear the crunching of bones and feel the teeth slicing through the flesh. Especially knowing that they felt everything and were driven to madness over the pain. I had to set it aside and get in a better head space before I could finish the story. Aside from that I really did enjoy the whole immortal concept. I loved that Malin never lost her humanity. Through ever cruddy things that happened to her for just existing she never lost her faith in humanity. The fact that immortals like humans have flaws that were easily relatable, you can get behind the idea that maybe it would be better if one or the other didn't exist. Honestly, I hope that she gets her HEA at some point because she does have a destiny that she is suppose to fulfill.

*I did enjoy not knowing exactly who the baddies were. Having to guess and take stock throughout the book was intriguing because it depends on how you look at it who was actually the antagonist.

Which way does your moral compass point? Well, this author gives her readers a chance to answer this question with this intriguing story. This story opens with our heroine running for her life. But, if you are running all the time, do you truly have a life worthy of living. Imagine being different and being hunted because of your families past. Malin has a huge heart and loves to see the good in everyone she encounters. There is nothing wrong with helping your fellow man/woman. But, can you make a change in the present if the world is still holding you accountable for your families past?Reading this story will take you the reader on a next level journey of self discovery. What will Malin learn by being surrounded by a diverse group of people? Let us hope that Malin is a quick study, because life is long for an immortal especially if said individual continues making the same mistakes.

I did enjoy this story as Tyrolin is a very talented writer. Thank you for my advance copy of your new book.

Malin's only crime is existing.

As an Immortal, Malin has been hunted for centuries, and she's avoided capture, until one day a selfless acts ends with her getting caught.

It lands her in the Immortal Cells, a prison sentence that is a fate worse than death. Since an Immortal can't die, they are forced to endure torture, being fed poison and being drained of blood for eternity.

But then, the impossible happens, an Immortal dies.

With more questions than answers, Malin is forced to navigate life in the prison and come face to face with her destiny.

There's a lot happening in this book and I loved every minute of it. It all plays into the outcome, there's nothing that seems like it's pointless. Just when you think you have it figured out and know who can be trusted or what is going to happen next, you are wrong.

There's a lot of gore and even cannibalism. The suspense has you turning the pages late into the night. I couldn't stop reading this and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. Certainly one I would read again.

In a world where mortals live along side a specific immortal creatures although the v word was never used we find ourselves in a prison. immortal is forced into a position that would either make both sides come to terms with peace or start an all-out race war. I really wanted to like it, but I wasn't invested in the fmc or the supporting characters. I think for me it felt a little like you were dropped into the middle of a story, nothing was really explained until something happened. Like so & so cannot die because they are a northern, but you only know that after they attempt something they were doing to another prisoner. Although she can survive a deathly trauma to a vital artery among other things. They lessen the importance of the northern ability in my opinion. A lot happens in this book, especially after a third protagonist is revealed and just exist for the sake of chaos. I did like that the world reminded me of ‘09 film Daybreakers,

Wow what a read!
This is a fast paced fantasy that brings so many things to mind. What kind of morality do you need to have when you live forever? Benevolent and beloved, or tyrannical time bomb?

I really enjoyed the flip of the story, seeing the war between the immortals and the mortals and how they were trying to deal with the "situation".

Malin is someone who has always run away from the problem, and that is what has kept her free, until she steps in to help an innocent. Now she will spend eternity rotting away in a prison, or will she?
A lot of twists and turns and new things popping up that surprised me. The cliffhanger ending had me checking to see when the next book can be expected!

This is one of those special stories where the reader finds themselves instantly immersed in a new world and fully invested in the main character. The world-building is superb, without heavy exposition dumps. The mysteries running through the story will keep you guessing and just as you think you have a character figured out, you'll be thrown a curve ball.

Speaking of characters, man everyone in this story is so compelling. This is probably the first book I've read where I was shocked to realise I was at the end. I was just so invested and so desperate to see what happens next that the story just flew by.

I highly recommend this book and I'm desperately waiting for the sequel.

4.5⭐

Morals vs Immortals... You'd think immortals would have the upper hand because of their abilities, but ironically even that doesn't last forever. In this story you'll find out just how shitty an eternity can be when the cards aren't played in your favor.

I enjoyed this quite a bit and did not expect the twists, especially toward the end. Parts of it are slow-going, but you find out more and more as you go, and it's all very intriguing and worth the buildup. And then of course when you think you know all the facts, you don't. Keep reading and you'll be more shocked. Fingers crossed for a second book, 'cause I need to know what's next.

😱💀A dark and original dystopia.

Rating 3.5/5.

In the cold night, Malin ran barefoot, out of breath, and finally reached the bushes.

Malin finally fell asleep, lying on the ground...

---------------------------------

Not at all the read I was expecting.
Many questions remain unanswered.

I did not manage to hang on to the plot of the book, nor to the characters.
I took more than 60% of the novel to enter a little into the story.
I finally wanted to know if Malin was going to manage to escape.

Rather for lovers of dark dystopian novels and the original universe.
I wonder how the story will evolve...

The story takes place in the prison, following Malin and further characters, like Rune and Taylin. One immortal dies and there is risk for a second immortal death. So, there is panic among the prisoners. Malin has escaped arrest for centuries, but this is a new kind of avoidance and Malin is destined for a life-changing mission. The story is immersive and plot-driven, and readers gain in-depth perspective into the characters' traits.

It's not that I didn't like this book. It's that it felt unpolished and felt like I was dropped in the middle of a story with no pre-emptive world building or character development. We meet Malin the mc as she is escorted into a prison for Immortals. Half the book is about her initial experience and the other half builds on the story. It is a cool idea with some twists classic of great fantasy it's just missing the world development essential to fantasy.

I think this is a great YA fantasy novel. The world building was quite imaginative, and the characters are easy to like and relate to. I did appreciate the plottwists and following Malin as she navigates the prison system for immortals. I liked that Malin was selfless and persistent in doing the right thing. Her concern for others and their needs was heartwarming.

This book was different than most of the mystery book I have read. This went to a whole new level. You had someone who is immortal in a prison where they are doing horrible things to the inmates. I can't wait to read more.

This book was definitely out of the box for my normal reads but I really did enjoy it. I thought the characters were great and many parts kept me on the edge of my seat seeing what was going to happen next. I normally struggle at times with world-building as it gets to be almost too descriptive for me but I thought this one was great. I loved the writing style and will definitely be checking out more books by this author in the future.

This is such a great concept for a book. It’s very dark and mysterious; there’s a LOT of unknowns and some of the questions that arise are answered as you read. However, there are some questions that remain right to the end which is a bit frustrating.
There are, though, some fantastic revelations and twists that I did not see coming!
Ultimately, a story about loyalty, race/class, and humanity - worth a read!

Imagine running for years, maybe decades to avoid being captured just for the crime of who you are. Malin is being pursued for the crime of being immortal, and when she finally gives in to exhaustion and closes her eyes, she is captured. The immortal cells refers to the cells in a prison where immortals are being kept. The conditions are terrible. The immortals are starved and tortured. Malin needs to find a way of escape, but how? This book has really great characters and it is easy to suspend realty and be immersed into this strange world where goodness and decency seemingly do not exist. There is violence, but nothing that I consider overly graphic. The ending of the book is not what you would expect and leaves us with a cliff hanger. I look forward to the next book in the series. Tyrolin Puxty has great imagination and is wonderful at her art of story telling.
