Well Three Cheers for Equality of the Sexes!

At first I wasn't clicking with this story because Captain Chaos was acting too much like a Marty Sue. And then I found out He was really a Mary Sue!

Maybe even a Mary Read.

N.S. Bond is riffing here on all those Historical Tales of Famouse Female Pirates. And it does suit the Tone of the Story.

And he is the guy who wrote all those Lancelot Biggs stories, which have that Familiar Days of The High Seas feel to them. As does thus story.

So an Enjoyable story, and a Well Written one which I enjoyed. It was nice to see a Woman stepping forth and proving Herself to being a Cut Above her felliw crew members. Those Bumbling Seafaring Male Spacers.

If I have any complaint about this story, it's that N.S. Bond snuck Ann DeLaney on board the spaceship in a typical Traditional Female Domestic Role, as a Mess Cook. That is how She won over the Hearts of the Male Crew. With her wonderful Domestic Cooking.

And she had other sterio-typical, negative "Female Traits" about Her that singled her out as being an "Odd Sort of Man .

So not a perfect story, but considering the usual historical portrayal of Femal Characters in Classic Golden Age Sci-Fi Pulp stories, it's definitely a breath of fresh air.
